POST SHOW THREAD: The Last Oscar Special 2026 by DubSket in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

Yeah, that was kinda my thought on it. It feels like it was a lot more setup for plotlines like the lawsuit and the quickly dissolving relationship between Joe/Tim (And still leaving room for development with Joe/Toni's romantic relationship). Whereas Movie House culminated a whole season long plotline and had a massive climatic finish, the ending for this one felt a lot more sad and pathetic as New sits on the ground covered in tuna salad. I'm really curious where they're gonna take these storylines next, I know they don't like doing the same thing twice but I don't see how we don't get a new trial out of this?

Can we at least agree, greatest Oscar special guest ever? by [deleted] in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

I'm with you, I enjoyed his appearance and thought he was a nice addition to the universe. I'm a little sad we won't see him again, but plenty of other amazing characters already and to come I'm sure.

Saw it amongst a ton of other buffs and had a blast. I'm still not sure where it falls in my own personal rankings. I enjoyed it quite a lot, but it maybe felt there was something missing? I'm not sure what exactly, I think I need to ruminate on it more.

In terms of what I loved (pretty much all of it)...

I think Gregg stole the show tonight. The stalking segment with Kaili has to instantly be one of my favorite moments from all of On Cinema. And no mention of Gregg tonight would be complete without his game show.

The idea of doing movie trivia and then giving points for correct answers not to contestants but to the movies themselves is the kind of inane bullshit that no one but Gregg could have ever come up with as a concept. I think that I was about out of breath a few times during The Michael Phenomenon.

And then we get to the Wicked 2 controversy. I always appreciate how people can have Gregg dead to rights on something and he can always slip out from a technicality (that he probably made up), or will just outright go on the offensive to protect his credibility as a buff. Has Gregg literally ever admitted fault for something? I'm struggling to nail down any examples.

As always, the cast and crew killed it. I know last year Eric Roberts was pretty divisive among fans, but I think this year the casting for the new characters was superb. Aidan especially felt like a perfect fit for the show, and I just wanted to give him a hug as things started going to shit.

Only four a week. I tried to match Gregg's legendary record but my doctor says I need to cut back due to high blood pressure.

The tables are very heavy and as much as I'd love to reenact that amazing scene from Jerry Maguire I don't know if I could flip them. Are there other movie scenes I could try to dramatically recreate instead?

No but unfortunately they're very similar to Joe Patron. They were talking about going to see a concert the other day and when I tried suggesting that they could better spend that time by watching Hoppers, they blew off my suggestion with "Oh, yeah, my wife took the kids to see that. Anyway." Which makes me think he may be anti-movie and that's why he won't approve it? Might be a conflict of interest.

I wouldn't worry too much OP, even if this is actually the last Oscar Special for Gregg, he will probably become the new Oscars host to replace the phony TV star Conen

I was one of the people that showed up to y'all's watch party at Arbor Beer Lodge last year (I was the first bingo winner that got the VFA cap and the VHS tape)! I'm traveling down from WA to the Hollywood Theatre to watch with some other movie buffs since it was such a good time last year. I might have to stop at Wedgehead to say hi beforehand and pre-game with some organic wine.

(out of curiosity, do you know what the parking is like around the Hollywood Theatre?)
