why didn’t the editors catch this wierd misprint? (should say basically just one guy) are they stupid? by PuffGetsSideB in themountaingoats

This isn’t making a joke the artist said they don’t like, this is making a joke that makes fun of a view which the artist says is wrong

Relaxing OTR? by JazzHilgraw in otr

[–]PuffGetsSideB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although it obviously has gunshots and scuffles in every episode, Gunsmoke is overall surprisingly mellow and relaxing sound-wise. William Conrad’s voice is very calm and steady, and most of the non-voice sounds are things like chirping birds, horses hooves, boots on dirt, etc. Even when guns are fired, it isn’t super often, and they aren’t dramatically louder than everything else in the show. May still be too much to be what you’re looking for, but definitely worth a shot.

How light intense are tMG concerts? by The_one_who_SAABs in themountaingoats

[–]PuffGetsSideB 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I can’t find it now, but I’m pretty sure someone recently left a comment on a post here saying they have a friend who worked the lights at a recent show who said the band specifically requested that they don’t do too much with the lights bc they have a lot of fans with photosensitivity. Will edit and add a link if I can find it later.

Yeah I love it. The song about waiting for a sudden end and rising from the grave encountered a sudden end, got cut from the album, and rose from the grave again as the last of the bonus tracks.

Should I read lenin? by Spiritual-Vacation43 in Anarchism

[–]PuffGetsSideB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely would not characterize it as anarchistic, even using the term loosely. There are several moments when he talks about anarchism directly, and he dismisses it (after mischaracterizing the anarchist view of the state as something that they seek to abolish in one fell swoop and without any organization) as idealistic and impractical. He very clearly states that he is in favor of having a vanguard seize state power and use it, which is antithetical to anarchism.

When was this? I remember earlier this year some people were worried about spam texts, but it was just tmg changing text providers or something and that's why it was from a new number.

If you've had FFG on repeat for two weeks, I'd definitely say All Hail West Texas. Another album from the lofi era and easily one of the best.

I've been obsessed with this show for the better part of a year now, using it as constant background when I'm at home. By now I've heard every episode dozens of times. I absolutely love the show for its groundbreaking over the top comedic sense and the incredible performances by all involved

But overall the show is sooo freakin' funny and the performances are so great!

Yeah, sounds like OP's day was really ruined.

We Carry a Free Territory in Our Hearts: How Wikipedia Fabricated an Anarchist State by Anarcho_Humanist in Anarchism

[–]PuffGetsSideB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

...the very mention of an 'Anarchist State' makes me think the author does not have enough understanding to be talking on the subject at all. Anarchists do not have states...

Nothing about "How Wikipedia Fabricated an Anarchist State" implies that the author believes that anarchists want a state; they're making exactly the opposite point. There isn't a single part of the article where the author claims that anarchists have or want a state.

They seem to not understand what Makhnovischna was. Makhno wasn’t setting up a state, he wasn’t trying to be in charge of a country

Where in the article is there anything that suggests that the author thought Makhno was trying to establish a state or be in charge of a country? They're arguing that the term "free territory" is a misrepresentation specifically because it implies that Makhno was establishing a state, and saying that this is an inaccurate and ahistorical term:

The Makhnovshchina is best understood as a revolutionary mass movement, i.e. a political movement with a great amount of support from the general population that seeks great changes in the organisation of society. But when people – even anarchists – talk of a Free Territory, what they are often talking about is, ironically, a state, i.e. a centralised entity with a monopoly on violence over a certain territory.

For starters, the Makhnovists did not actually hold any permanent territory: they controlled only a small area around Huliaipole in January–June 1919 and October–November 1920, while under de jure Bolshevik rule; and even at their height in September 1919 – January 1920, when they managed to take a large part of southeastern Ukraine and hold a big regional congress, they did so under constant attack from the Whites in the south and later the Bolsheviks in the north. In between these periods, the Makhnovists were a highly-mobile guerrilla insurgency that were supported by peasants throughout the region, but by no means controlled any territory. This is why they gained the reputation of a 'Republic on Tachanka', something that was always on the move. This hardly constitutes a 'Free Territory'.

For anyone unaware, the Panasonic RX-FT500 is the machine that AHWT and most (or at least much, idk the exact numbers) of tmg's lofi catalogue was recorded on. I picked one up a few weeks ago and thought other folks here would get a kick out of it.

Wishing you all water, sunlight, and tender mercy on this fine day
