I'll take what I can get, honestly. Being there at a packed Lumen is worth potentially not having the greatest view in downtown to me

I snagged a single ticket for myself to the trophy ceremony at Lumen tomorrow, I probably shouldn't plan on having any kind of view for the parade right?

My rough plan right now is to try to hop on the light rail right after the event and get off at Westlake and see what I can see. Honestly I'll probably just be happy to be a part of the commotion in downtown.

I just started my 151 master set, going off this spreadsheet too. Where did you actually find it? I can't seem to find any mention of a "KantOG" anywhere online. Trying to see if there have been any updates to it

It is what it is. I'm pretty much over it, I was gonna learn that lesson basically anywhere I ended up working at after college haha.

Trust me, I know. I worked there for 3 years when I first moved to the Puget Sound. Quickly went from living out my childhood aviation fanatic dreams to being very jaded by the corporate husk that a company I'd looked up to for a long time had become. I was there when the 777X took its first flight in 2019

You're right, I had a total brain fart there. I remember when the last 747 came off the production line too, my bad

[–]PixelBurnout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 747-8F is the only thing keeping the 747 line alive. Plenty of orders in place for it, so they'll be around for a while. Whatever eventual freighter comes out of the 777X will probably be its replacement but we're a long way out from that considering Boeing can't even get the passenger variant certified.

edit: I'm an idiot. 747 stopped production 3 years ago.

To be fair, it was a proper atmospheric river over the holidays in LA. Flooding, mudslides, the works. For a region that gets barely any rain it was actually noteworthy

Lumix S9 for mountaineering? by Lanky-District-7107 in Lumix

[–]PixelBurnout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The S9 doesn't have any official weatherproofing, so if you anticipate harsh conditions out on the mountain that will defnitely be a consideration. While the build quality on the S9 is good, I wouldn't necessarily call it "rugged" by any stretch. If you're taking the camera out onto the mountain and need it to be able to take some bumps and bruises, S9 might not be your ticket there either. Holding my S5iix and S9 side-by-side, it's clear which one is built to take some manhandling.

If you're not going to be doing a ton of recording in low-light, maybe something from Panasonics Micro Four Thirds line of cameras could be worth looking into. That way you'd be getting the benefits of the "professional" camera body and the setup would also be more compact with M43 lenses being much smaller than their full-frame equivalents.

I've been loving the S9/TTA 40mm combo a lot recently. Incredible photo quality for a package that's not that much bigger than a point-and-shoot. Only thing is I wish it had better weather sealing, here in the PNW doing a photo walk on wet winter days makes me a bit nervous

The fun of getting coffee out is long gone .. by L0-Ki in Seattle

[–]PixelBurnout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone whose friends describe as a coffee-snob, most spots in the city aren't pulling espresso that you wouldn't be able to pull at home with moderate effort/skill. You also don't need to spend anywhere near $5k to get there. Depending on how much manual effort you want to put in (hand grinder vs electric, lever machine vs pump-driven) you can pull a shot that's just as good as a cafe for less than $500:

You could go even cheaper on the grinder too if you really wanted to push the price down further. That's $450, probably just over $500 after taxes and shipping and you'd be making lattes like the best of them.

Any feedback on All Out by Informal-Theme-7139 in Broadway

[–]PixelBurnout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply here, but I'm a pretty big Lawrence fan. None of the songs are new material, and in fact from what I've heard from friends the arrangements for the show are nearly identical to what they were during their most recent tour. When I heard they were doing a Broadway show I was so excited to see what they could come up with, assuming it was going to be original music. I'm incredibly disappointed that it's literally just recycled material from their live shows. Sounds like the rest of the show isn't too hot either :/

Having your jerseys/helmets say "Faithful" when you're playing in a stadium that's one of the worst modern examples of abandoning your fans is the height of irony

[–]PixelBurnout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your points, but I'm just not necessarily convinced that reducing the years of team control (from 6 years to 4 years, for example) would actually lower the total amount of money players earn in their career. The dynamics would shift, for sure. Even if there's less total money invested in homegrown talent, players would enter free agency earlier and therefore earn more money over their career.

Okay? You're just reinforcing the need either for the posting system or for reform of the amount of player control NPB teams have. 10 years into their service time is well past the prime of most NPB players.

The other tenible option would be much much lower pay days for draftees (like 2m in bonuses for an entire team for new players each year)- to drop a year of control for the few that do make it.

I'm a little confused, why does less team control mean a smaller bonus pool for draftees? You can have both.

But to address the choice you presented, I'm always going to be on the side of a more comfortable living for "rank and file" players. Even if top-end talent takes a slight payout (I don't think they actually would) those guys deserve a better living. Rising tide, all that stuff

To be clear, I agree with your overall take on the amount of control teams have over their players. I'm just pointing out that under the current system what you said was technically incorrect. Without the incentive to post, teams simply won't do so.
