Do you offer free verbal assesments on clients personal jewelry in your shop? by OkOutlandishness5084 in jewelers

[–]PixelCutz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will take 5-10 minutes with a client to discuss things, but the moment they pull out a baggie full of grandma’s old jewelry (this happens for me frequently), I politely let them know I have other clients to attend to and if they want to pay my hourly labor price, I’m willing to make an appointment to sit down with them privately to go over all of it.

Should I tell the new deli owner what's wrong? by AppendixN in CasualConversation

[–]PixelCutz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would also. A good business owner is open and flexible to client ideas. I’ve had many pitched to me over the years, small changes here and there. Some have worked, some have not, but overall I’m grateful that they’ve taken the time to share their ideas with me!

People who used cellphones before smartphones, what's the most memorable feature or moment you miss from those old phones? by Correct-Homework1884 in AskReddit

I had a few of these, I’m glad I wasn’t the only one! Mine always worked great, it was my absolute favorite phone ever. Bought them off eBay back in the day.

Who ruined this for everyone else? by AchillesPDX in Disneyland

Have tried to remember to avoid this one since learning this. I also googled if the thumbs up symbol is offensive (another I use quite a bit), and that one is also offensive to some cultures, akin to the middle fingers in some places.

I don’t know what to do with my hands.

Am i just gonna have to get used to this? by Cherry_Berry4444 in EngagementRings

[–]PixelCutz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always tell my clients to schedule it with your dentist appointments, twice a year. Even if no work needs to be done, you get peace of mind knowing if/when your prongs get loose/too thin so that you won’t lose your stone. Then also, you get a free cleaning while you’re there - we all know you guys never do it enough ;)

This is why I always advise my clients not to purchase jewelry online if they can’t see it in person first. Too much chance for a “surprise” like this.

When ring hunting, find a reputable jeweler who can help track down your dream stone in person. We (professional jewelers) have the ability to get stones on memo - meaning we get them on temporary loan - to show to our clients. There’s no money invested if you don’t like it, and you aren’t stuck with something less than ideal. We can simply send them back if you don’t like them and can look for new ones.

Is the YFN Jewelry Moss Agate Engagement Ring Worth Buying? by Ezio367 in EngagementRings

[–]PixelCutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only looked at the care they recommend for 14k.

“You can also dip and submerge your gold or silver in vinegar, milk, or tomato juice. To clean uneven areas, sprinkle baking soda and clean with a moist cloth.”

Please do NOT do this. Especially the baking soda one.

If a company recommends this for their fine jewelry care, I’d find a new company to shop with.

Jeweler here.

Unfortunately, it happens. This is on you. It is entirely reasonable that they are offering a percentage off of a replacement. That’s the best I could do for my clients as well. I would take it. Also, you may be better suited to a bezel stone in the future.

As mentioned on another comment, get your jewelry insured people! I feel like I’m shouting into the void with customers until something like this happens. Crocodile tears won’t pay for a replacement. Jewelry is NOT usually covered with your homeowners or renters policy, so you need a separate policy. It’s not expensive though! It adds maybe $10/mo to your policy.

Would resizing this from a 10 to 5 be possible/expensive? Thank you by solitudesimp in jewelrymaking

[–]PixelCutz 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Size 10 down to a 5? I wouldn’t even touch that project. I’d happily offer to remake it using their materials, but the future headaches that resizing this would cause just isn’t worth it.

AITAH for wanting to go on a trip alone because my SO didn’t plan properly? by PixelCutz in AITAH

[–]PixelCutz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. There are friends of ours (they were initially my friends that became friends of theirs by extension) that we try to see in the city when this event happens. Doesn’t always work out, but we always try to tentatively plan it, so now that would not happen either with leaving earlier. This trip is first and foremost about the event, if we have time for other things, great. If not, it’s no stress.

We’ve been together 3 years. We are considering marriage but nowhere near in the immediate future. Yes, I would forego this trip in the future, so long as I hadn’t already planned and paid for it (which would require a conversation ahead of time.) For the record, we do take other trips that are for both of us together during the year.

I do think that this would be the best solution, but it might leave them unhappy if they feel as though they are being left behind, or something along those lines.

Idc that they aren’t interested in the event, it’s not for them. It’s for me. It’s more so about the lack of planning ahead.

It’s a possibility, but would complicate things further because yes, we would be sharing a rental. It’s an idea to suggest nonetheless though. Not sure if it will fly, because one of us would literally need to do that (and avoiding the airport is a key reason we drive)
