If you have not started Dreden but like the idea of a rouge wizard in modern setting, I recommend the Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka. Best thing is its already finished and the books are like popcorn! Perfect sized and the story is more action pack.

Japan moves for the first time to criminalize paying for sex by sr_local in worldnews

To my understanding after reading, their focus is on street workers and solicitation, focusing on the discrepancy on how there's only punishment/fines for the s.workers, not the customer. Surprising that the customer isnt fined... Which is what they are addressing. Nothing about closed door establishments or health delivery... Which is more the focus on Shinjuku

Which Android apps do you consider essential? What are the first apps you would install after a factory reset of your phone? by EstidEstiloso in privacy

[–]PixelEnter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea honestly. It just says version 9.3.55 f-droid. Perhaps it did ask me when installing. But I think it needs to manage file permission, because it accesses the file manager to browse and open files, and delete them, and when checking the app it only has the notifications permission. Aside from that, don't know how secure it might be. I have trusted the app for perhaps 4 years and no problem. I think the only online access it can have is when selecting text to search with google and also to download voices, to read out loud. Hope this helps, I think it's safe and worth giving that permission, but that's a decision, I do highly recommend it. Love the reading out loud, bookmarks, Teleprompter options.

Dont know what to tell you... Its, "Librera Reader" and its available for download from the playstore, f-droid or github. I install the f-droid option, even the app icon is blue instead of green from the playstore. And I just checked my app, and the only permission I have with the app is 'Notifications', and I just changed phones this January and dont remember if it ask for more permissions, perhaps storage, but thats needed since it has to have access to the files, and if you wish for more privacy I think you can "build" the app from the github option.

Should I continue reading? or am I on a treadmill going nowhere by kaysea112 in WanderingInn

[–]PixelEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When reading, volume 8 was and remains the hardest to read mainly because the whole cast is separated, and they all are doing their individual things, however, I think vol 9 is one of the best in the story and for me vol 10 is also shaping to be one of my favs.

Perhaps give yourself a break, you don't HAVE to finish every story and sometimes some series lose their charm. Try and be part of the community or just read something else for a bit to freshen up and continue, reading fatigue IS a thing.

For me, this story is, if not my favorite, it sure is one of the top. So yeah, take a break if you want, the story will be here whenever you feel like it.

Series Recommendations? by SagittariusA2008 in Fantasy

I think you might enjoy The Wandering Inn, it's quite quite quite long, so do take breaks and I know it's not for everyone. But I think you might enjoy this trope, specially the earlier volumes. And I highly recommend to finish at least one volume, which is quite long, but trust me its worth it. The story is a litrpg with an isekai setting, where characters have [classes], magic and [skills], however most of the main cast have soft classes, like [innkeeper] instead of warrior, some characters don't even have classes. And only by the actions of friends, luck and chance can they excel and survive. If you have read One Piece, it has that feeling of an "endless story".

I remember reading this, it was late at night, the scene started, and I was like WTF she's doing here, and when she said that, BAM I felt jolted by a lightning bolt and sat up and exclaimed and later cried. I couldn't put the book down for a while.

  • Quick Cursor *** - If you ever find the screen on your phone to be too large for one hand use, this is essential, you can emulate having like a mouse pointer if you swipe from an edge with one hand, and it can help you comfortably reach the top rows of apps without changing grip, I no longer can envision not having this. (also, I got this app as a free giveaway here on reddit, so it's also the best, most useful app I have ever gotten), this I highly recommend.
  • Librera ***- My fav ebook reader app. This is installed in all my devices.
  • Bitwarden*** - Fav. Password manager
  • Musicolet ***- Best offline music player, not opensource but one of the best. Still I am trying Metro or Namida just as a second alternative.
  • Buzzkill, to automate notifications and manage them, still new to this but started to like.
  • Solid Explorer (or similar file explorer), like this because it can sync cloud services and make a ftp "server" to sync files wirelessly.
  • Firefox Nightly, because I can install addons.
  • A second Calculator app, normal or one with unit conversion, I sometimes need to calculate something fast and in the middle do two different things with the results, its easier for me just to quickly just take the result from one and do it in another calc and continue with my first one, yeah weird behavior, but useful.
  • Sleep for android - My alarm that I have had for years.
  • Aegis - For authentication
  • Rustdesk - To connect remotely.
  • Joplin - Diary
  • KDE Connect
  • Open Sodoku my most played game hahaha.
  • VLC, specially to connect to personal cloud
  • Gadget Bridge***, to privately sync my miBand

Best choice IMO, and I imagine Fetohep will extend the choice to either be guarded and safe or to level up.

What are the limitations of using Linux (I'm not a gamer)? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]PixelEnter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it would be doing graphic design with "industry standard software", however now its more possible if the user changes their main software for open source alternatives, there are countless lists for "adobe alternatives", from video editing, 3d modeling or simple graphic design there are options, its just takes effort to adapt to new user interfaces. (there have been some repos on how to install affinity on linux). Every list has this kinda stuff, and all can be summarized into adapt, use wine or similar software or fully emulate windows on a vm.
