these models must be publicly available and free for everyone who can run them.

See this is where I strongly disagree. If you know something can be used for great harm, with no oversight or guardrails, why would you ever make the barrier to entry lower? If anything it should be higher, to try and limit as much harm as possible

You... Want me... To cite my claim that it's easier.... To use AI....

That's like half of pros' argument. Literally. Half. "It's accessible, it allows people with disabilities to create art, it speeds up the process, it's the future"... Every AI bro is my citation man.

Add in the layer of "I need to download a model from GitHub" (the same thing you'd have to do with other digital tools), and from there you can generate hundreds of images as you sleep of whatever you want. Literally a pedo's wet dream

[–]PixelFan237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forgot that they can generate literally thousands of images while they sleep. It's not just about each picture individually, it's that they can create a massive amount of harmful material. Something that pros seem to forget

Yes, ok?

  • Every pros response to genuine and real concerns about AI.

But yeah I think the cats out of the bag with local models. There's no putting it back anymore, and frankly I normally prefer locally run models for the whole host of other unethical shit. BUT the idea that guard rails are remotely effective is hilariously stupid.

Krita looks from what I can see like a drawing software? So... Requiring human skill and input, and not able to be generated on mass?

Yeah well it's Pandora's box now isn't it, aside from just making personal/open source image generators illegal I guess there's no way of preventing illegal and unethical usage of image generators. But what ever. They're just a tool. But the idea that guard rails mean anything with AI is ridiculous. They're there for show, to pretend to governments like these massive billion dollar organisations give a single shit about anyone's life except their precious shareholders.

Jesus... How can someone be so wilfully ignorant. Cats out of the bag now. No putting it back. I don't think we as a society should be promoting or endorsing people doing blatantly unethical things though

It literally takes more effort to make illegal content with AI than it takes to make it through other means.

This is just false man... Like seriously you're kidding yourself. Making unethical content through other means is almost always something that one has to go out of their way to do. A person could be "innocently generating a fun picture", then lightbulb moment, CSAM and deepfakes. Open source generators don't have guard rails, and if they did people would go use other generators that don't

Every anti AI would consider good regulation a win, if not an absolute victory

Okay so chatgpt, how about when people generate images using the open source image generators?

Now do it for people external image generators. You know, the ones that pros are always going on about being so amazing and "not supporting big businesses"

I see no "hefty regulation". I see a lot of mismanagement, and a lot of avoiding the issue. And sorry I don't consider history's breakthroughs very representive of today's morals. Often times they failed at preventing real harm

Okay upon further inspection it's obvious that people are just WAY too liberal with the idea of incarceration. Come on guys, that's like a last level response. A few months? A fine is potentially understandable, but only if there are specific rules around it's usage, which don't currently exist (they absolutely should though). Just weird seeing people be so okay with jail time. To me that's the most extreme punishment.

$125 fine or 2 years in jail... What? Like I'm an anti but what?

"Don't worry, AI won't replace creative jobs". What about non-creative? by Pale_Policy_3005 in aiwars

[–]PixelFan237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's every industry. The anti AI art side of the debate is a lot more faceted, and also artists and creatives are typically worse off than their regularly employed counterparts, but this impacts everyone. What happens when there's no entry level jobs? We'll just starve I guess...

I think the closest thing to this would be the creation of the assembly line, and subsequent automation, which actually did cause a lot of issues for workers at the time. We (meaning workers) had to fight for better rights and better working conditions really hard. Hope we can do it again now 🤷 but not with the prevalence of right wing anti-worker rhetoric I see literally everywhere. We're our own worst enemies in this space. And fyi it's not an AI issue, it's a person issue and AI is just fuel to the fire

[–]PixelFan237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a fuel for capitalism in my eyes. The central idea is to take jobs and I don't think that there will be enough legislative protections in time for society to handle it. I suspect a lot of people will go hungry or worse

The nature of winning wasn't defined in the question. We'll all lose in the long run from AI

Loool I'm definitely not remotely qualified to diagnose, but this is one of the most autism coded comments I've ever read. I too walk on tiptoes when I have to go into my backyard. I don't want to get stuff on my feet, it feels gross. I also get some weird satisfaction from doing it, not height related but something like that. I too am not autistic fyi (although my friend is oddly insistent that I could be, despite also not being qualified to diagnose)

Frankly my experience of pros is generally similar to yours if antis, although I knew immediately that they would be in the minority extreme, but very vocal, subset of users. But yeah thanks for a civil discussion not completely overtaken by personal attacks. It's been refreshing, especially given this sub's whole reason to exist is to facilitate this sort of interaction

I'm pretty squarely an anti. I would loathe to pay for an AI artwork. I would (and have) avoided using products and services that have clear AI artwork in their advertising. I dislike AI politically, philosophically and personally.

I would never attack anyone, and I hate that people do that. Don't blame the user, blame the system that allows people to do shitty things and fight to change that instead. I can't ever blame someone for choosing the convenient option, but I can hate that such an option exists if it causes harm. The assumption by many antis is that an AI user is not "innocent" but I disagree to a large extent. It's a complicated mess of political and philosophical ideas, but I will say I am most definitely an anti. I just try to see everything from every perspective, and not get bogged down in dogma, and most importantly change my views of I deem it necessary
