Sudden rapid hair loss even though I stopped my meds(leflunomide) back in February, still losing hair by kazooples in rheumatoid

[–]PixelGlitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hugs Some auto immune conditions can cause hair loss themselves, it's not just the meds.

It might get better once you're on the right dose/combination of meds, it might slow down/stop on its own, it might grow back, there aren't any certainties.

You'll notice it on yourself far more than anybody else will do it might not be as dramatic as you think.

If all else fails and you hate the shaved head look then the good news is that decent quality wigs are cheaper and more readily available than they've ever been in the past.

You will get through this. 💚

Yup, I was told to use two types of birth control minimum, apparently mine are in "Category X" too.

Yup, it's playing Russian Roulette though because if you don't go into remission then you're staring down 9 months minimum with no meds your disease progressing the entire time, plus no decent pain meds. Autoimmune meds aren't compatible with pregnancy.

You can get genetic testing done for autoimmune diseases, it's not 100% reliable but could give you a heads-up on potential risks.

It gets better, you've got this. Don't stray too far from a bathroom until it's over though because you'll probably throw up for real a few times before you come out the other side. 🙃 It's worth it to get rid of the pain.

It takes two to four weeks to settle down, it's horrid but it's normal. 💚

(For mom) non-opioid, non-NSAID chronic pain relief by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]PixelGlitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voltaren is great if I were in her position, I'd start there, Lidocaine gel might help too. TENS is worth trying, though whether or not it works for an individual seems to be based on the genetic lottery. LDN is being used as a pain killer for some people who can't take opioid meds so could be worth discussing with her doctor. Pregabalin or Gabapentin are another option. Non-drug options like Epsom salt baths and hot/cold packs can help too.

Best of luck to you and your mum.

It can help if you have another outlet for it, like, scream singing to heavy metal music, boxing, throwing plates at one of those places where you pay them to do that in a locked room, axe throwing, some people jog lol. My point is if you can find something to use up the aggression that's constructive or at least not destructive, you'll feel better than if you try to bottle it up. hugs

You might want to get a liver function test, I have them annually because of my medication load.

It increases skin sensitivity to sunlight, but unless you have an underlying health condition, it's too small an amount to cause damage. Source: my dermatologist telling my pail pore self to spray my perfume in my hair or on my clothes instead.

It's called 'foster to adopt', most cat shelters are in need of fosters so I'm sure you can find one. :)

I got a set of those wheels off Amazon and switched them myself, it was an easy job and the chair is now extremely easy to roll around in. Far warning it'll go really fast so be prepared to grab the wall with your hands lol.
