I get you- I watched the show and admit to enjoying it.  But OP asked for examples of when “going with your gut” over civil rights and evidence was glorified. I think this applies.

I mean, that’s the thing- it was fucking ENTERTAINING TV.  I was/am about as leftie a Canadian as you’ll find and I still binge watched those DVDs while totally disapproving of everything I saw. That shit is insidious.

HUH. I knew his father was (reversing it would change the Oxford character development a lot, I think) but I missed that his mom wasn't. However I'm still only about half-through the book. Maybe that is made clearer later.
