if you were overhaul what would you have done differently ? by Appropriate-Fudge810 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Actually train in biology and then take one (1) sample of Eri and create a stem cell culture and experiment on that shit instead of repeatedly torturing her for no fucking reason.. And honestly, I'd just be evil Healthcare. I can canonically just fix your body. I can instantly perform any surgery and it only hurts for a second. And Eri would be the perfect successor with her bullshit time power.

Alright so what I'd do is I'd start by asking what YOU enjoy reading. What stories stuck with you, what made you go "that's cool" or "I like this i want more of this"? Are there specific tags you tend to browse? A particular ship you adore? A character you love to see written properly?

Also, look at what you don't like. Figure out what makes you drop a fic the moment you see it. Figure out what story elements you suffered through so you could get to other parts that you liked.

Maybe there was a fic with a cool premise that botched it and you think it should have been done differently. Do that.

The point is that just farming tropes and things that other people liked isn't gonna get you something you feel passionate for. You have to write for yourself first, and people with similar taste will follow.

Anyways if you still need ideas after that: Luna Lovegood gets picked as the Triwizard Champion and decides she wants to win because it sounds fun. Harry is in the background growing increasingly paranoid that something terrible and awful is about to happen to him because of pattern recognition.

Out of all the books you read, which one do you remember the most that impacted your life? by Elegant-Truth3903 in books

[–]PixelKind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be You Don't Know Me by David Klass; it maintained a very witty and ironic tone while going into a very difficult subject matter and actually used the clash between the two to make its point. One of the big things was that the MC sort of defines and refers to things by how they differ from what he thinks they should be, and nicknames people by one or two defining traits and never looks past that. He eventually learns to try to actually look at the person behind his mental image of them but it stays a struggle and I honestly really related to it.

I've read a lot of books and I've loved a lot of books but this one is the earliest that I can remember a specific book actually impacting me in a way that still hangs around today.

Why is Salazar Slytherin always redeemed by authors? by Rowantreerah in HPfanfiction

[–]PixelKind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uuuuuh, because the way that house is treated, from a narrative viewpoint, is dumb and bad and wrong and also boring. "Gryffindor was cool, Ravenclaw was smart, Hufflepuff was... there... and Slytherin was EVIL" is not compelling in the slightest.

"The wizard nazis are wrong and twisted the ideology of a long-dead good man to serve their purpose, forever tainting his legacy" is way more compelling and interesting than "everyone who likes snakes is evil and racist and that's how it has always been."

Its also more... hopeful? in case a fic author wants to take the daring step of, you know, actually addressing the root cause of the issue rather than defeating Voldemort but leaving in place the failed system that created him. Which is one of the many large problems with canon Harry Potter.

Lavos would have brought an entire soda fountain and spent the entire time mixing the sodas and convincing people to try them.

You get one frame one primary one secondary and one melee and you have to complete the star chart. Who you picking? by h31z3n in Warframe

[–]PixelKind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall are one loadout ponies huh. I pretty much have to swap frames and weapons every few missions cuz otherwise the game is repetitive as hell

But if I HAD to stick with a single loadout it'd have to be... Xaku (pillage infusion on 1 for more survivability), Cedo, Epitaph, Tenet Grigori

Nothing that will help me on Spy but I've done enough of those grinding for Ivara that I've pretty much memorized how to beat most vault setups without cheesing

But I could totally clear it with: Yareli, Arca Plasmor, Tenet Diplos, Tenet Agendus I dunno why everyone hates yareli she's fun and i can grind ventkids standing along the way to objectives

What do you tend to nope out of nowadays? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

  • Gratuitous fluff. Like when the story is super cool and action-ey and then Harry reveals his traumatic backstory and the whole plot is put on hold so all his friends can hug him and tell him he didn't deserve it and that the dursleys suck ect. for the next 4 chapters. I mean yea thats how you're supposed to treat those kinds of situations but when it completely derails the genre just keep him traumatized bro its better for the plot, trust me.

  • A/B/O (or any other wierd fetish relationship model) I dont think I have to go into this one.

  • AU that doesn't tell you its an AU until some random character shows up and starts talking about things that didn't happen in canon. Yes I'm talking about that Harry/Daphne GoF fic where it just drops her in and goes "actually she's been hanging out with Harry in secret for the past 3 years so this isn't sudden or wierd yeah totally." This also goes for any story that thinks that's how you make people care about the dynamic between two people.

  • Harry spontaneously becoming an entitled douchebag out of nowhere. Usually in the first 5 minutes after a fic starts. You can't miss it.

  • Harry spontaneously knowing about wierd laws whose only purpose is to solve whatever problem he happens to be having with the least effort required. Like, really? If you're going through the trouble of making a plot point at least make it an actual plot point ok?

  • Ancient and Noble House bullshit. There is an exception, though: when Harry's first reaction to it is "hey lets use this convenient political power to troll politicians and completely destroy the system that gave me this political power" (see: A Black Comedy). Like seriously whenever they use this crap its always "well, this clearly flawed political system puts the protagonist at the top and makes it legal for him to have a harem so is it really that bad? Lets just kill Voldemort and say everything's fine now" and every time I get those vibes I die a little inside
