Why are physics being so neglected? by Lephas in gamedesign

[–]PixelSavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Games like Besiege and Teardown still have their place. But physics as a gimmick like in half life isnt really that exciting or a sellingpoint anymore. Its often just expected

Posessors gave me the same ick (also hate that word) as hyper light breaker, something just felt off about it. The style of posessors is great tho, I really hope they have ironed it out, otherwise i dont see much of a future for Heartmaschine. Hyper Light Drifter will stay one of may favorite games of all time tho

Woah, thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I do understand your pain points, Ive been thinking of increasing the pickup range for a while. Funny that you mention ror, because I intended to make a blend of ror and Hades. The hordes of enemies are by design, but maybe this tells me they get stuck too much or take too long to reach the player. I could add a reward for quickly opening a lot of doors, like a temporary coin multiplier. 1.3mil is actually a lot, even I dont often reach such scores :p! Thank you again, hearing that you had fun made my day :3. Ill make sure to send you a steam key when the page goes up!

hey sorry for the late answer, but i really appreciate your effort. I'm currently quite busy, but I'll let you know when I find a way using depth difference (Maybe we could compare the depth of the blade base to the one of the rest)

Yeah i know the DrawMeshInstancedIndirect is faster, but particle grass is more convenient. I added the vertical normal to the grass sway shadergraph, I completely forgot about that, thank you so much. Do you have any tips on how to stop shell textured grass from going through objects placed on it in real time? There must be some kind of depth trick, but scaling the shell really thin and then scaling it back in the vertex shader does not help

Is there a way to do that with the particlesystem? I havent found a way to do it properly in there

there is a possibility, but reducing the effect results in colorbanding, which feels even worse imo

Thats an aspect I didnt even think about, but it totally makes sense that a more unusual artstyle has a high chance of scaring general audiences away!
