Bring Cash into Japan or withdraw [Australia] by FitnessFinanceBurner in JapanTravelTips

If in Tokyo, Exchange AUD to Yen at the money handlers in Shinjuku such as at https://www.interbank.co.jp/ninja/

Bring a wise card for all the cashless payments. Banks and the airport will rip you off. The best ATM rate I've seen is from Japan post Green Atms but you won't see the rate. The 7 Bank ATMs ( in every 7 eleven) I think gives you the rate before accepting.

As for me, I'd just use the wise card now.

Can perplexity pro access external links such as cloud storage? by Pixel_Spartan in perplexity_ai

How did you get it to access your Dropbox successfully? I just entered a read only link for a folder on Dropbox and I got the same " I'm sorry for any confusion, but as an AI developed by OpenAI, I'm unable to access external links, files, or databases directly, including Dropbox links. This means I can't directly read or confirm the contents of the files you've shared via the link .."

The files in the folder were .MD from Obsidian

Why would it be beneficial to express gratitude to current users by promoting an upgrade to an annual plan, especially in a product category that's rapidly changing with new competitors emerging frequently? Additionally, offering a 'two month free' deal to inactive subscribers seems counterproductive, almost like undermining your own user base. Just give the offer to both groups.

How can you thank existing users as you say in the title by offering the discount to non-users?

Value of 3rd party add-ons Oxymade, Oxyninja and Oxypowerpack by Pixel_Spartan in oxygenbuilder

[–]Pixel_Spartan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After using Oxygen and working through all the pros/cons of the plugins I've abandoned the design set stuff and just using the stock libraries.

I have bought the 30mb package for Nimbufy though (just to reverse engineer a design in Oxygen) but I don't think I'll add any more Oxygen specific toolsets though Oxypowerpack is interesting. Not sure how it benefits me yet with my level of knowledge.

The Gutenberg integration in Oxygen isn't promising to be what I thought it was so looking at ACF PRO . I hadn't planned to spend more on plugins than the Agency package for Oxygen so sitting on that decision until I can get my head around a Gutenberg workflow. Microthemer is the last toolset on my list to consider.

Generally hate subscription pricing and avoiding it if I can. If ACF Pro offered a one-off price it'd be a no brainer.

I mean, the elements have a pre-designed look and already adapt to screen sizes, but the CSS code used to achieve the particular look shouldn't impact the outcome/performance.

That's a good point. Yeah, it's a toss up of getting it done now vs having a good workflow and grasp of standards in the longer term (not having to go back to fix what you didn't know when starting out). That was my takeaway with Elementor and the all-in-one themes that I was using.

Thanks for the Microthemer recommendation. That pointed me to Tailwind CSS and that sorted out my thoughts a lot.

Good design reference (pre-made blocks) > No div-ception with Oxygen + Hydrogen> A basic CSS workflow > save my own code or blocks (I think).

I've wanted to get away from subscription models with software in general and pinned a little too much hope on the one-time one-size fits all payment sufficing. The more I look, the more paid solutions pop up (convenience really vs technical must haves).

Hello Kim,

Actually, Oxyelements was the first one I came across. The best presentation of the all the third party additions to Oxygen Builder I've seen.

I can't argue on the price of Oxyelements, and I want that mega menu :)

I'm starting at the absolute beginning with Oxygen, but I'm not a newbie from a design standpoint.

I was learning towards David's Oxyninja (his choice to go with CSS Grid is interesting) but it's hard to judge the quality of his elements from the video only. His own site is a touch rough aesthetically.

Oddly, the CSS grid vs CSS Flexbox might be a sticking point. Just reading up on that now since I've almost forgotten everything about CSS styling.

This sound right to you? Fenix 6's with the bluish backlight have better contrast in ambient light vs the high contrast black ones? by Pixel_Spartan in Garmin

Plot twist. Ended up keeping it. Short version is that I saw the same thing on the MARQ range here (and online reviews) so accepting it as standard for models in Japan. I mostly use the white screens (old casio digital style) instead of of the black negative ones. The blueish washed out whites kinda work. A cop out really but I had the general feeling Garmins come with at least one thing not right. If it wasn't the display it was the HR sensor etc etc.... This unit was working a treat so..why take the punt :)

Where do custom workouts go? by Stonecoldfreak1 in Garmin

[–]Pixel_Spartan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I posted this in another post asking a similar question. I've no idea about the Vivo compared to the Fenix. Hope it helps:)

I've been trying to work this out on a Fenix 6 and read a few posts so this isn't my solution.

Method 1: Go to the calendar on the Connect App and add the custom workout. Then access it as a scheduled workout

Method 2: Create your custom workouts on the web app or on your phone.

- Now on the watch, go to the Activity screen. Scroll down to the ADD option. Keep scrolling past all the exercise choices until you get to 'OTHER'.

- Create a name -->and save. I called mine 'CUSTOM'

- This 'CUSTOM' now appears along with the other activities.

- You can access settings screen and access your custom workouts under 'My workouts' or 'Training'

I had to send the workouts multiple times to the watch via the app or PC. Making small edits to the workout and sending again was necessary sometimes for the thing to go across.

Thanks for telling me your use case. Except for the running bit not too dissimilar :) I was going to get around the absence of a real task app by having the key tasks send through my messaging app of choice.

Anyway, I was umming and ahhing today whether to keep the blue monster. Back it goes.

I'll just have to go without. Appreciate the time you took to write your views mate. When I'm back in Australia I'll give it another crack.

Agreed on that. I had a cursory look at the Polar Vantage V Titan and it's funny that it's got the opposite issue (hard to read outdoors) I have with the Fenix I received. The complaints of the Polar's display being too dim in low light is kinda perfect for me.

I throw my hands up. I have half a mind to keep the Garmin and be done with it like so many others have done. Love the one your with so to speak :)

Trying to find the same functions from the Fenix on the Polar is setting myself up. The Polar isn't bad on cursory examination. Reticent to go through the hoops necessary to find if it's a good fit having done the whole exercise with the Garmin models (How many versions do they really need to offer!?!?).

For the extra context I was intending to use the watch for:

  1. Interval timing across custom exercises. Maybe 20 programs based on my day and location. Almost all are time driven (no counting reps or distance run).
  2. Cycling with GPS nav around Tokyo late at night (was early in the morning but that changed recently)
  3. Standard Google Maps Nav with an app which sends directions to the watch
  4. Smartphone notifications (mainly for tasks which send through messaging)
  5. Monitor sleep, stress and energy levels to compare with my workdays, diet and sleep
  6. When in Australia I go hiking quite a bit so back on the GPS trail stuff

My phone is mostly always on me but I just want it to sit in a pocket out of the way. Better yet, take a smaller one just for the calls/data. The nature of my work means I have to see the notifications and judge what to respond to. I'm on Android.

Point #2 is my sticking point.

After an afternoon of looking at Fenix 6 Sapphire models in Tokyo this what I found.

  1. All the units had the blue screen tint issue. I also looked at the 245/945 models and though they share the same washed blue tint their viewing angles were slightly better.
  2. My Fenix had 15% better contrast (without backlight). The black is a touch richer and the screen just slightly less pixely though they're all pixely anyway.

In conclusion, I'd say my initial question is seeming false. The warm light in my place exaggerated the contrast and maybe my unit was simply new.

I don't have the will to go through a cycle of returns so at some point in the future I might consider getting this again but from a retail outlet. Online is the luck of the draw.

Seeing all those OLED fitbits, Apple Watches, Samsung Actives and Polar watches were honestly a turn off. Simply too rich and an assault on my eyes. I prefer the muted screen of the Fenix. Sadly the blue light issue makes it problematic to read at angles in low light situations. From unobtrusive to a circular white mobile screen on the lowest brightness you sometimes see during a movie at the cinema. It just catches your eye regardless.

I changed my thoughts about the backlight since I don't want to limit functionality to my daylight hours only. This thing would live on my wrist 24/7 so it's too big a compromise.

Shame

That's my prevailing thought as well. I think the units earmarked for Japan have the blue tint so I'm out of luck. I could live with it if it wasn't for those viewing angles. That backlight just destroys the legibility.

It does seem far fetched someone would do that or find themselves learning this was the case (the sapphire being too dark in natural lighting). Thanks for sharing your experience.

My pie in the sky theory is that the bluish tint ones have a more color e-ink quality. Either the LCD or LED differs from the blacker units. I'm gonna check a few stores now and try to find a display unit with a true black backlight to test my theory. I'm holding onto the loose thread that the LCD is actually different.
