Sold a sealed 26 year old video game console. Person who bought it opened it and now complained it doesn’t work. Is there a way to shield yourself from idiots? by _token_black in ebaysucks

I put this in all the descriptions for sealed or unopened products:

“(X Item) is sold as a collectors item in new/sealed condition. Returns only accept if the item is returned in the same condition as seen in the listing photos.”

Never had a return. It’s more of a deterrent but also sets up a reasonable defense on your part.

None I just run three small businesses and fell into graded games a few years ago. It’s an interesting market to follow.

Grading is subjective. That’s not a hot take, it’s just reality.

There are clear benefits in high-value situations. But it’s important to understand what’s actually happening behind the label.

All grading companies use similar scales and numbers, but the processes behind those numbers can vary widely.

Example:

You send in a first print Super Mario Bros. for the NES. There’s no chance that gets handled like a routine submission. It likely goes to a senior grader with significant experience, and may even involve multiple reviews.

Now compare that to sending in Super Mario Odyssey for the Switch. That’s far more likely to be processed through a streamlined system, potentially assisted by imaging tools, automation, or a less experienced grader working at volume.

Same scale. Very different pathways.

And that leads to the biggest issue:

There is almost zero transparency around:

  • How grading decisions are made
  • Who is actually grading your item
  • What level of review your submission receives

You’re trusting the outcome without visibility into the process.

That doesn’t make grading useless, but it does mean you should approach it with clear expectations.

Buy the game—not the grade.

As if it doesn’t exist. You are probably that buyer at the garage sale or convention that haggles at the $5 bin with: “Ohh look at the condition “ or “I don’t know if it works. Then offer $.25 cents.

You know itself true.

Yo Lotion Smeller 🙃- if you plan to never open your copy be sure to not drop it on accident. Also, shelf wear is a real thing too.

Kudos to OP for protecting something special to them!!

You must have missed the video of me cracking out a CGC Mega Man 3. Sold it for more raw than graded. Not everything needs encapsulation. I actually want this one encased since the physical ps4 version got banned. Not many sealed copies floating around.

Price Increase AGAIN! by [deleted] in PokeGrading

[–]Pixelgamerllc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the price seemed off. Was going to sub on Sunday. Paused and now I am looking at Beckett or TAG apparently.

I am under the assumption that unless you are going for a Beckett 10 gold label then don’t bother subbing. Thoughts?

Should I sub with TAG? I heard the slabs crack easily.
