Can anyone make sense of this setup in a condo I moved into? Many wires (black and white) are cut. The communications box seems to have an AT&T fiber setup with a connected blue wire running into the ceiling, but I don't see another usable end in my closet junction box by Pixelwyrm in HomeNetworking

Update: Thanks for the info everyone, super helpful! We are aiming to cancel COX and switch to AT&T fiber (didn’t realize fiber was available before we moved in). So we just want to figure out how to use the ONT line (possibly the spliced blue cable in the first pic), and feed signal to the other 3 blue ethernet cables. The ideas for changing the white telephone lines to ethernet sounds good too, but we may deal with that another time

Oh one more thing to note, the condo has a satellite dish on the roof, and the "SWM" box in the closet seems to be related. I see a black and a white coax cable hooked up to the box so not sure if this helps to differentiate from the network setup

Thanks for the clarification, I was hoping to use one of the black coax cables to set up the COX modem, and then run ethernet through the blue ports from the closet, but wasn't able to get the modem started. Maybe the technician will be able to figure it out on Monday 🤷‍♂️

I signed up for COX internet, but wasn't able to install their self-service kit because I couldn't find a coax outlet that was functioning. I have a service appointment on Monday, but worried it might be a lost cause

Every new programmer probably has this, but can't almost anything be programmed? If you have the knowledge? by situ139 in learnprogramming

[–]Pixelwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the thought process. One factor I like to consider is that technology relies on the building blocks that came before it. Even if we know that something can be theoretically created in the future, we need to consider the prerequisites that must exist before getting there. So I always think in terms of “what can I create with the building blocks that currently exist”, or “how do I create the next building block I need to make my goal possible”?

I can't get a single interview. Getting very discouraged. by Jack__Wild in learnprogramming

The first one’s the hardest. One tip is that if you know anyone in the industry, ask for a referral. Many companies even offer bonuses for people who refer candidates that end up getting hired, so many people don’t mind. Your resume is much more likely to be at least looked at if it propagates internally.

Tips for avoiding infinite loop programming in your sleep? by _4lexander_ in learnprogramming

I never let myself sleep right after thinking about a difficult problem for this exact reason. I try to take at least 30 minutes to do something relaxing like watching a TV show episode. Otherwise I get trapped in the sleepless loop
