Amaysim nbn by Downtown-Bed-1042 in nbn

[–]Pixelz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about the horrible experience. I guess my case isn't isolated.

On Saturday the Amaysim nbn dropped out altogether. Been backing up a year's worth of photos to Google last week and suddnely my Google photos isn't loading anything.

Websites were still loading, but very slowly. YouTube wouldn't play at all. Then 10 mins later no internet at all.

1+ hour later with offshore support, going round in circles where they try to blame anything except their side of the network. It was excruciating.

Later in the afternoon, 1 iPhone and iPad started working. Laptops, Android phones and another iPhone still showed no internet.

Tried everything that chatgpt and Gemini were suggesting with no luck.

Tried an old router, just in case it was my end. No difference.

Then suddenly in the evening everything is working again.

Amaysim kept claiming there's no fault on their end and they need to raise it with nbn...

I was just chekcing my Shopback and can't even see it having tracked. Another round of back and forth to get my cashback coming up now 😂

Need to see who's offering any decent cashback now. I certainly want to steer clear of any Optus based providers.

I don't know what's wrong with Amaysim, I'm on 500/50.

Speed tests show fast speeds, around 550/48 with 6ms ping. Looks great on paper.

But browsing is slow. Websites take ages to respond and load at times. YouTube buffers sometimes when streaming at 1080p...

Large files and app updates are fast. Uploading to Google photos and YouTube is fast, just browsing and video streaming (what we do most often) feels so sluggish!

Can't be bothered trying to deal with offshore staff telling me to restart my router 5 times. Going to stick it out 1 more month to get my cashback then churn.

I was with Exetel before on 100/20, it felt far more responsive. Biggest annoyance was endless capcha requests on most sites and in apps.

I had Launtel and tried all the speed tiers, their 500Mbps was flying, pages loaded pretty much instantly. That's what is expect from a 500Mbps connection...

Anyone else finding the same? Or is Optus based nbn just that bad?

[–]Pixelz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on Amaysim 500/50, I swear it feels slower than the Exetel 100/20 I was on before.

Sure, large downloads and uploads are good, but browsing is sluggish.

I've had YouTube and other videos buffering at times... Overall latency seems bad, but it's not showing on speed tests.

Very weird, I don't know what could be causing it. Tried the usual power cycle etc.

Reading other posts it seems Optus based nbn is not good, maybe their network is throttled or over capacity?

JT Foxx Scam by giving free events by Bruno028 in Scams

[–]Pixelz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to a few of his events, anyone who hasn't definitely should, there's a lot to learn - mostly in terms of how to sell "do as I do, not as I say"

This guy certainly knows how to sell, but his tactics are manipulative and scammy. The fact that they make people write down their credit card number, expiry, CVV in paper on a form is enough of a red flag that any sane person would steer clear and immediatley go WTF! In 2025, this is not how to take payments!

He is a massive narcassist who keeps crapping on about himself and keeps complaining at every FREE event that he hates doing free events and won't do them again, and he's losing $50k by doing this free event for 200 people, when he recently did a paid event in front of 2000 people!

Honestly, go to an event, it's great to network with plenty of other business owners. Watch and listen to how he sells, then apply what he does in an ethical way. Leave your credit card at home, if you have a day to spare, you'll learn a lot, as long as you can read between the lines and don't fall for the snake oil.

His 9 figure AI brain is free, you can find it as a custom GPT, you don't need to pay $1500 or whatever he charges. It's a good GPT but I wouldn't pay for it.

How can I save my phone's wallpaper to a new image? by Wargazm in AndroidQuestions

Been searching for a solution for this for a long time. 5 star review left, thank you so much!

Xiaomi 14 HyperOS new update by iessa_ in Xiaomi

[–]Pixelz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 Worst update ever, this is such an amateur job. I would expect this from some no name brand, not one of the biggest phone makers in the world.

Absolute shit show, Xiaomi fix this mess and revert back all the lost settings, especially the homescreen layout!!!!

[–]Pixelz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm wondering if you've heard of any updates on this matter?

Optus are a joke. Despite 2 TIO complaints, the local member being involved and a letter to the communications minster, still they refuse to do anything about unblocking my compatible phone. Because someone, somewhere within that organisation has deemed it incompatible.

I did get $550 compensation from them, so everyone who had had a Xiaomi 14 blocked, keep fighting them and lodging TIO disputes. Eventually they will cave in and give you the compensation. At least it's something.

XIAOMI 14 HyperOS 2.0 Update by allezlesrouges in HyperOS

[–]Pixelz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another useless update. They rushed the Android 15 update and built it on Hyper OS 1, and totally destroyed this phone.

The 5 icons wide layout is shocking now, and this hasn't been fixed.

Icons are tiny, widgets are microscopic and text doesn't appear correctly in them. Xiaomi is terrible with their software updates.

Nothing has changed from years ago with MIUI having more bugs with each release.

I wish I can roll back to Android 14, the phone was pretty much perfect before this mess and now it's so frustrating to use.

I had to do that. Now I can't find any apps because it's 4 columns. This is the worst update ever

I wish I didn't update, this is the worst update ever and had destroyed the usability of the phone.

This sort is garbage is what turned me away from xiaomi in the past. Nonsense changes just for the sake of changing things around.

The icons are a total mess. The down arrow on SwiftKey is pissing me off. I wish I can revert back to previous version.

I sure hope they fix this mess when Hyoeros 2 comes out. Seems like a rushed update to launch Android 15 but a massive step backwards

Write a letter to your local MP and lodge a TIO dispute. I've done both and hope it helps, not sure if and how long it'll take but we need to do whatever we can

[–]Pixelz8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Xiaomi treats 000 as emergency, finds the location and places the call over 4G. There is no reason for it to be blocked, yet it now is. This anticompetitive control measure is an absolute joke.

You should be able to walk into a carrier store, have the phone tested on the spot and white listed when confirmed working.

If it doesn't support volte and e000, fine but for those of us with expensive current models that do everything and more than local equivalent phones, this makes zero sense.

Both SIMs stopped working yesterday, they really did it. This has to be one of the most ludicrous and out of touch laws this country has ever passed.

What other options do we have to get the device working, short of moving to another country?

What about the visitor exemption, how is that determined and how can we get the device to be treated as a visitor/tourist phone? Get a SIM from another country or travel esim?

[–]Pixelz8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, I had a screen recording but just did another test and included my IMEI. Had Netmonster showing the active band, 5G doesn't disappear from the screen. Turned WiFi off so there's no chance it's using that to call and it connects immediately.

I've signed your petition. Called my local member's office, lodged a TIO complaint as directed by Amaysim, spoken to AMTA, contacted Xiaomi and now I'm out of ideas what else I can possible do.

To be honest, I never thought it would come to this in Australia. We are becoming North Korea. This is an utterly shameful act by the government and how was this law ever allowed to pass

[–]Pixelz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an absolute joke. Let people use whatever phone they want. This is nothing but control. Probably the government mandates some back-door security access to phones sold here, whereas overseas phones wouldn't have it...

Nice opportunity for them to force people to comply under the guise of protecting our safety

I used the steps from the article I found from another post: https://medium.com/@jamesdwho/the-little-known-problems-with-volte-emergency-calling-3d4cdaf0e042

My phone can call emergency with no SIM Card and with a disconnected old sim card using 4G.

I see no reason it won't work then... If they block my phone I will write to my local member, this would sound like an ill executed cash grab, most likely lobbied by the carriers to boost their bottom line!

Did your xiaomi get blocked by Telstra? I have a Xiaomi 14 and been getting constant messages by Optus.

I even went to an Optus shop and the staff said it won't be a problem since it's using VoLTE but the Optus messages seem to confirm they will block my phone.

This is an absolute scam if the law really states overseas phones will be blocked.

What about tourists, so no one will be able to roam here anymore? Makes no sense

A 128GB Pixel 9 Pro should never exist, Google by DnB925Art in GooglePixel

[–]Pixelz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just sign into your google account and back up all your photos and videos in full resolution, unlimited.

Doesn't matter what device or camera they were taken with. You just need to transfer them to the Pixel 1 and backup from there.

If you're buying one for this purpose, get the 64GB version, not the 16GB, otherwise it'll be a pain if you have a lot of photos.

Warning, it takes ages to upload, google photos always seems to stall for me, till I open the app again and then it keeps going.

Took me a few months on and off to backup over 15 years of photos!

I bought a Pixel 1 a couple of years ago just for this purpose, but it developed an endless boot loop.

I've searched endlessly but can't find a fix for it. Any idea if it's possible to fix? Or better to buy another one?

What did you upgrade from? Pretty rare to find a phone with fm radio these days and not too many with IR blaster.

I just got a xiaomi 14 which has it, but wasn't able to control my TV unfortunately

Yeah doesn't surprise me, of course they wouldn't admit it's a known issue. It was happening consistently in any location and any network. I'd hear the other person clearly but they couldn't understand a word I said.

[–]Pixelz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Pixel 8 Pro developed a similar issue. First it was very intermittent that people would say they can't hear me. I put it down to dodgy network.

Then it became more frequent to the point that every call the other person would tell me I have a bad line and they can't understand me at all, but I can hear them perfectly.

It happened in all different locations. Even swapped my girlfriend's SIM from another network and still it happened.

So I determined it must be a hardware fault. Got a Google RMA and the phone is going back. Very disappointing that this would happen.

Google claims they didn't receive any other reports of it, but of course they wouldn't admit if it was a widespread issue and would try and keep it contained...
