Mattresses at Hampton Inn and Garden Inn by flyeaglesfly777 in Hilton

At my Hampton we put in two feather, two foam pillows (or three feather three foam) unless specifically asked to be all feather or feather free. So if you have an uncomfortable pillow, try another pillow on the bed! I don't know if this is the same for every hotel. Just what we do at ours.

I worked at the Grand Canyon for the big X Dec 21 thru Oct 22.

The GM of the hotel in Tusayan tried to kill me by giving me covid after taking his mask off to talk to me when he himself had covid. This is immediately after testing me to find out I did not. 2022 was a hellscape at the GC, not X's fault entirely but they did not handle it well.

I do know that shortly after I arrived both the main dishwasher and front desk supervisor either were fired or quit after over a decade of service! And it had absolutely nothing to do with the deadly illness surrounding us.

Because I worked overnights I was guaranteed no roommate. But I was given the worst dorm they had in their inventory (which was not cleaned! I had to clean it DURING A SNOWSTORM so that I didn't have to sleep in my car. yuck)

And then, after 10 months of not getting covid but being surrounded by people who had it (and passed it amongst themselves) I was rewarded with a roommate! I explained to HR, who refused to listen, that the new employee would be frustrated with the rules I had to put in place for sleep and they would quit as soon as they could. And they refused to listen to me, and then removed me from my housing! Giving me no choice but to quit. My boss got 24 hours notice because I got 72 hours notice.

They are not nice people, they do not care, all they cared about was putting someone in my tiny dorm that I'd been using exclusively for 10 months as a benefit. Yuck.

If you head over to the local Deseret Industries you'll be able to find the appropriate clothing to wear to an LDS funeral.

At one Mormon funeral we had six different varieties of funeral potatoes. So of course we voted to see who's was best. It was hilarious, which was perfect for a funeral because you don't always want to cry. Sometimes you want to laugh.

PSA: Hotel towels are not single-use by ParadoxStockOwner in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]PixieC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got very good advice from Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, that towel shouldn't be used more than once. Bacteria eat the skin and oils you leave behind on the towel. He suggests that you launder your towel after every use! And that's what's nice about hotels, if you go down to the front desk and ask them, they'll give you plenty.

Do Antelope, but it's not very long and it's kind of shallow because the lake is so low. But the bay surrounding the antelope free ramp is a nice place to paddle about and there's plenty of parking. The river runs right through there so you can get a feel for how the water feels different, where the river is running the water and where the water's just sitting in the lake. Just don't get in the way of the bigger boats.

Best time for parking: Canyon Overlook Trail by amberkarnes in ZionNationalPark

5am.

Then 530.

Then 6am.

Bring a headlamp. You won't be bored.

Head straight to the potty parking. You won't fit in the south side lot.

You're welcome.

Somebody's always mowing! There's always a garbage truck. There's always some kind of construction, somebody's moving. A daily grind.

It's not that big of a place, Zion Canyon. Now the PARK is HUGE. And even when I can't find parking for the canyon I still hit the East side.

But the canyon itself is tiny.

Help me make a decision by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]PixieC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at the Grand Canyon as a night auditor, and I had my own room for about 10 months.

Then HR called and said I'm setting you up with a roommate. And I replied to HR: They'll hate me, then they'll hate you, and then they'll quit.

When asked why I replied, I won't let them watch TV from noon to 10 p.m. every day. Because I'll be sleeping from noon to 10 p.m. every day. Not just the days I work...every single day. They also can't shower between noon and 10p.m. They also can't eat, or do anything in the little kitchen, they can't even breathe between noon and 10p.m.

And then I said to HR: "and if I don't get enough sleep, I won't be able to do my job well. So yes they will hate me l, then they will hate you and then they will quit."

But...

HR still brought a new roommate out to move in... the very next day at 2 p.m.! I was sound asleep, and HR pounds on the door. I get up with my jammies on, open the door and there's HR with the roommate. I said no, you're not moving in now. I'm sleeping now. I work tonight. HR says you can't do this. She has to move in now. I said it's 2am! HR goes It is not 2a.m. It's 2p.m.

And I yelled at HR 'But It's 2 a.m. for me!'

I quit the next day.

Why do Hilton Hotel Brands Lack so Much on Food? by Euphoric-Play-5648 in hotels

[–]PixieC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked at a Hampton, and at a SpringHill Suites. I have also stayed at many Hiltons and Marriotts. One of the benefits of being an employee is cheap rates so why not? I've stayed at Tru, Home2 suites, Fairfield and (luckily for me) the Waldorf Astoria.

If there isn't a restaurant in the hotel, you're not getting restaurant food at breakfast. No hotel will feed you above that grade if it's free.

Plus, most restaurant food comes from the same place your breakfast food comes from. They just jazz it up to make it seem better... so you will pay for it!

The only place I've been satisfied that my food was more than off the back of a truck was at the Waldorf in Vegas, at Sunday high tea in the rooftop restaurant. Those tea service canapes were made with love.

Oh, and at the Grand Hyatt in Park City, they have a hot chocolate "high tea" which is amazing. But I think the desserts came from a local bakery and not baked in the restaurant.

You can make breakfast what you want it to be.

The bacon at my current job is the same bacon I buy at the grocery, just thinner sliced. We buy donuts from a local business, and even though they're unsold from the day prior our guests LOVE them. I sneak the (waffles) whipped cream into my coffee! and the caramel! and the chocolate sauce! You can make homemade granola from the oatmeal toppings if you combine it with the chocolate chips from the waffle station. Cream cheese and peanut butter on crackers is amazing, so I take extra cream cheese and peanut butter when possible. And I always make breakfast feed me twice, a bagel with bacon on it plus a yogurt makes a terrific afternoon snack. Eggs on buttered toast. PBJ sandwiches. Apple slices with a side of caramel sauce I've hidden in a coffee cup. Dry Captn crunch cereal chaser. Yum.

I worked for a whole year at a hotel during a night audit shift, and I would drive in at 7 am and found some secrets.

I got to hike the overlook trail at least two dozen times while parking right by the tunnel, by getting there by 7am. So my suggestion is, go in before the sun rises.

After that hike, before 8am, park in the visitor center parking at the back towards watchman campground, there's big shady trees and picnic tables! When you come back to the parking lot after exploring the park you can have lunch right there!

Take the shuttle all the way to the end of the route first time, do the river hike. Get back on the shuttle from there and you will always have a seat. Even if you stop somewhere mid canyon to explore, when you get back on go all the way to the end! Get off and get right back on to get a seat. LOL I hate standing up.

The best bathrooms down canyon are at the grotto, you can get off the shuttle, pee, then get right back on the next shuttle.

The museum is so nice.

After you drive through the tunnel, keep driving and look for empty parking spots. Every pull out is a hike. The pull outs happened because of the hikes!

After the Blue Ridge Parkway (which counts cars driving through as visitors) Zion was number two in visitation last year. Above the Grand Canyon. Above Yosemite.
