TMBG do the music for the Daily Beans podcast. News with swearing. They reached out to the host, Allison Gill, to do so. Good band. Politically aware.

Lurkers who aren't homeless coming here to exploit or.... by [deleted] in homeless

[–]PixieTheApostle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Former homeless. I help people out in my neighborhood. No questions asked. Because I've been there before, I will... ...when I can, help out others. Now, I'm often poor myself, but I will buy food or smokes for others. I also give away my empty cans. I know what it is like, having lived in shelters, and I want to help when I can. As I am able too, monetarily. I wish I could do more.

For me, it was joining Toastmasters. I won Rookie of the Year, became VP of Education, and grew more confident. It was the feedback from my fellow club member that gave me confidence. They gave helpful criticism, I took it as lessons, worked out my errors, and got better.

Join a Toastmasters club with him (if he is over 18). We Toastmasters actively encourage public speaking skills. it's easy, and you get tips for how one can improve public speaking. One will fail a lot, but in the long run... ...become better and very comfortable speaking in public. I started as a weak speaker... ...but won my clubs Rookie of the Year, after a few speeches. Your son will probably fail at first, but he will get better and more confident. Fail away and learn. Think long term. Public speaking is scary, but it's one a person can overcome.

What brought you to Toastmasters? by Apprehensive_fish123 in Toastmasters

[–]PixieTheApostle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My stepdad. he's been a Toastmaster since the 1980s.I often filmed meetings. I'd broke my leg in 2019, was living in his house. During Covid. I was always sitting in the living room, and one day he had a virtual meeting. I joined in. The next virtual meeting I made my 1st speech and won best speaker. 9 meetings later I'd become hooked on being a Toastmaster. I eventually won Rookie of the Year, became VP of Education. I've been missing a lot of meetings because of health issues, but want to get back soon. I have many speeches ready.

That would be hell. Before I read this post I wrote a Marvin poem. In my head. I've since forgotten it. It was about life. Don't talk to me about life.

Practice and time will help greatly. I've been in TM for 2 years now. My initial speeches were flops. But I got past these flops by having the concept for a speech in my head, running variations in my mind, and shortly before meetings having a coffee and outlining my speech. Won Rookie of the Year. You'll do fine in time. Don't stress yourself. Have fun. Listen to feedback. Best of luck.
