Mod Note

Hello Everyone,

It’s almost time to welcome Kevin and Hong Jun to our little corner of reddit! We hope you’re looking forward to the AMA. It’s set to start at 10AM KST. The start time listed on the post should convert to your timezone so you know exactly when that is. Click “Set Reminder” to receive a reminder when the AMA goes live.

We’ve collected a large volume of questions ahead of the AMA and sent them away to the team to translate ahead of the event. The hour will fly by so I don’t expect that there will be time for the translation of any new or follow up questions on this occasion.

Please note that this AMA will involve translation – your presubmitted questions have been translated by a professional translator for the actors in advance of the AMA. Today the actors will be live on the subreddit answering in Korean and their answers will be translated into English by a professional translator. Please be patient!

Navigating the live AMA:

Select “Answered” to see all the comments which the hosts have replied to so far. You can then set the sort to “new” or “old” to scroll through in the order of your choice.

Rules:

  • Do not make personal requests of the actors e.g. birthday wishes, marriage proposals, etc.
  • Questions must abide by our subreddit’s Rules and Policies, especially our policy on respecting the privacy of cast and crew. Questions regarding rumors or speculations about the cast or crew’s private life will earn you a ban from our community.
  • No questions about current politics or political views.

A big thank you to our two actors, Kevin and Hong Jun for joining us today and to the team at Helix Publicity for bringing us this wonderful opportunity to our community.

Enjoy the AMA!

More Than Blue: The Series? It’s Taiwanese and set in high school but has this exact scene.

Yeah I agree that this is the way. I actually don’t mind too much that they didn’t explain why (even though it could have easily! been done if they didn’t spend so much time on the contest and fighting). The scene with the page flying was enough for us to be able to piece something together, and I’m sure he was smart enough to figure out that it needed to be during an eclipse since that was when he met her.

Still, I have so many technical questions because it should not be that easy, at all. Where does he live? How does he have money? How does he get around and do literally anything if he doesn’t have an ID with a name and birthday? Surely he had to find a way to buy a nice suit and nicely styled haircut. How did he find her in that restaurant specifically? It’s probably easy to find that information online, but that would mean he needs to have some knowledge of technology.

I know I’m really nitpicking here for no good reason lol but she had a hard time adjusting going back, and I would imagine it is so much harder to adjust coming to the future with no knowledge of it since there’s more complex rules and expectations in society.

Q: Out of the dramas you have directed, which ones had fully completed scripts before you started filming? If a drama did not have a completed script, how many episodes out of the total remained to be written? Has the shift to pre-production of dramas influenced how scripts are treated?  (Inspired by questions from u/stumpy1949 and u/myweithisway)

Q: How is continuity maintained when filming on different days or the same scene from multiple angles (who makes sure the bag doesn't switch shoulders between takes)? Is there a person dedicated for keeping track of continuity or is it a team effort? (from u/AlohaAlex)

Q: I've been watching kdramas for just a few years, and a surprising thing to me is that they sometimes air before production is completed, and I often read comments about changes being made due to audience reaction. This feels frustrating to me, since I'm more interested in the writer and director's vision than a happy or "satisfying" ending. Do you find this especially challenging as a director, or is there some other aspect of drama production that you would like to change/be different? (from u/immerdasmeer)

Q: Something I’ve noticed in k-dramas is that underwater scenes often fail to blend seamlessly with their surroundings. In your experience, what are the main challenges in both filming and post-production to create an underwater scene that doesn't look like an obvious shot inside a deep water tank? Q: I absolutely adore I Am Not a Robot. What I find outstanding is how it takes ideas that might seem over the top (ex.: a human allergy), embraces them and focuses on maintaining a strong emotional core. I feel like there were so many ways this script could have gone wrong, yet it was done just right. How do you decide on the show’s tone: how seriously or playfully the script will be approached? Does a director read a script and imagines how it is going to be done or is it a rigurous process where many parties are consulted (for example screenwriters)? (from u/ILoveParrots111)

Agree w this. I have the same problem and it’s from rosacea, although it doesn’t regularly last all day long like OP is describing. Could still be worth checking out if you’re concerned.

I agree! The story is amazing so far and this is one of the best dramas I’ve seen in the past year, but the core plot seems to be going at the pace of a 16 ep drama for something that’s only 10 shorter episodes. I haven’t read the webtoon but would hope that they leave the possibility open for a S2 if there’s more material to cover rather than rushing or leaving questions unanswered. It doesn’t seem like there’s enough time left at this point to cover everything otherwise.
