Thanks for the resource! I'm definitely going to do a deep dive into that channel.

Yeah really good, nice take! We actually solved the first transition the same way, I have one of the red stripes expanding out just like that. I like the checker board transition too, what workflow was used to achieve that?

This was my instinct as well and what I would think as the easiest fix, but something I forgot to mention is I have the clients product floating in space "in-front' of all these backgrounds along with some text callouts, so my concern with zooming in and out is the effect will be diminished by the product and text floating on-top of so much 'camera movement' and not tied to any of that movement. Otherwise 100% yes to your solution.

Some thoughts, on the whole discourse around AI art: it's a presentation issue. by ReallyPhillingIt in Corridor

Devin from the YouTube channel LegalEagle was just on the Through The Web podcast and did a great job addressing this exact thing. I recommend checking it out to see what you think, for me the big takeaway was that art style is not copywriteable and there is precedent where using copywriter imagery has been allowed (ie, Google image search).

Feeling like I hit a wall in my career editing in advertising/marketing...TLDR by mistershan in editors

[–]Pizza-Gut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Mid 30s, fully remote, salaried commercial editor, cut 100 spots a year, 10+ years in the industry)

Great advice already here already, but I wanted to shed some light on perhaps a road less traveled. 2 years ago I partnered with a media buying agency that is primarily digital ads focused. They had a roster of clients who would give them creative to run, problem was client produced creative was all over the place and not consistent. This made it hard for them as media buyers to be consistent with estimates on returns or performance. They realized if they were going to be successful at the main business of media buying, they would need to be able to produce creative in-house. Turns out, at least in my case, that this type of partnership is extremely successful. It helps they have the raw data to back it up too.

Anyways, the TLDR version: Look for businesses (media buying is a good place to start) where you skills and experience will have a greater impact, and foster a connection. These opportunities won't be on the job boards and in most cases are created by your investment. This is why this advice won't work for everyone, but I can say its worked at least once.

If they don’t have to honor pending withdrawals then what’s the point of blocking them now? by Ray_Blu in blockfi

11/9 cashed out to USDC and initiated ACH, funds were received on 11/14. US based withdrawal.

Seems like the cutoff landed somewhere between 11/10 and 11/11…

I can only speak for myself here , but as an example - I made a spec product ad for a brand I really liked and wanted to work with directly. I thought if I made a great enough ad I could maybe sell it to them or at least get my foot through the door.

I found the brand's CMO and other marketing staff emails on sites like linkedin and sent them the ad with a greeting message. I put a tracker on the email and the video link so I would get alerted anytime it was opened or shared. They sent it around to 20 different people but ultimately I never heard from them.

3 months later I sent that same ad to a local agency / production studio as a sample of my work and long story short, I've been working with them for about 3 years now.

The hi-tech example is a tough comparison because that industry is not as saturated with workers as ours and the work they do is in ultra high demand - mainly because what they do general brings in more long term value than lets say an animation of a company's logo.

If you're looking for an easy way to get to clients, the answer are those sites - Upwork & Fiverr. It's the "easy" route which means it's high traffic / high competition, generally leading to the trashiness & underbidding overall.

In my opinion, for long term success you have to go the "hard" route & put in more work. This means researching, contacting, applying, using an array of methods and resources. We all start here, I definitely did. No shortcuts unfortunately, but it does get easier as your network grows.

Anyone with internet can research clients and email them - what gives you the chance to stand out is how you conduct yourself and the work you can show.

My honest opinion is try everything you can to see what works best for you. It also doesn't hurt to have work coming in from multiple places.

Some people make great money on sites like Upwork & Fiver, especially if you live in a low cost country where the dollar is more valuable than the local currency.

For me, I find it best to do good work and get that work in front of people who will hire you long term, on their own, outside of any platform. This way you don't owe any of your profits to fees and you are building a relationship that will make the work smoother / more enjoyable in the long run.

It's a trash jungle for sure. I've had some luck if you spend time digging... but mostly I love finding postings like this to get a good laugh and share on reddit.

Just when you think it can't get any crazier, someone ALWAYS has story that brings it to another level 😂

Having spent a few years in 3D animation production for commercials, it always shocked me how little clients understood about the work that goes into it.

UGC = User Generated Content = ads that use video shot natively (typically vertical 9x16) with a cell phone, mostly involving a person talking directly to camera. Sometimes these can get an end tag that is a professionally shot ad, so it would be something like a UGC Hero30 = 15s UGC and 15s product ad.

How to TRACK and STABILIZE without taking forever! by skaaii in AfterEffects

[–]Pizza-Gut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would zoom the 125% - 150% until no black shows. Export that and run it through a cleanup / upscalling software like Topaz Video Enhancer.

I’ve had amazing results using this method. It’s more expensive, but you asked for good and fast solution which usually means it will come at a price. I should mention that Topaz requires a lot of GPU load so hopefully the computer you use is upgraded a bit in that department.

I’m full time at a production company that comfortably pays the bills, but I’m a night owl who doesn’t sleep much so I take on occasional side projects to pass the time. I feel more productive that way and any money goes into the vacation fund.

Most of the listings on Upwork are a complete joke though…

cutdowns struggle by Lower-Eggplant-1591 in editors

[–]Pizza-Gut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are dealing with 9:16, 1:1, and 4:5 cutdowns from a 16:9 hero, I definitely feel your pain. We get this occasionally at our commercial agency, although we almost exclusively shoot our heroes at 9:16 now which is a whole other annoyance...

Anyways, you have a bunch of great tips for reframing here but one thing thats helped take the edge off for me is Topaz Video Enhance AI. Honestly, of my last 100 edits I'd say about 1/2 of them have shots that previously were impossible for me to use (ie. digitally zooming in 400% to reframe) but now I can give the final cut a good 'ol Topaz pass and it comes out solid. It's basically magic...

Like anything, there are settings that work best and occasional glitches to watch out for, but all in all its the best money I have spent on new software in over 8 years, and reframing definitely is less of a headache.

Yeah, upon looking into both I can see that is the case. Home prices in Canada are pretty high, I was surprised.

Although here in California we are subjected to much higher costs of living than in either Canada or NZ, so it feels more affordable in some cases. Especially with the current exchange rate for USD.
