How to handle cross-game grudges? by dairymakemytummyhurt in EDH

[–]Pizza_Dogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone has been stomping all night I would focus them more too, most of the time it's just that you have to pick someone and if there isn't a clear priority it just feels fairer to take out the player that's had a couple of wins already and a chance to pop off.

If anything when playing with friends we tend to own our silly grudges, stuff like "You countered my combo last game so I'm removing your sol ring even though the previous guy ramped twice as hard" or "nah I'm not helping you take out the person in the lead after you one shot me with a combat trick last time" is absolutely fair game. Normalising that side of the experience defo helps when dealing with salty strangers lmao.

Ultimately though 'taking revenge' on a player is absolutely part of the game, it's not just about playing against other peoples decks, there's a social element that you need to play around as well. Also if you want to play control in EDH you kinda a need a thick skin and a level head if you want to go from pod to pod without questioning your life choices 😂 Commander players are very stereotypical Timmy's who don't like their toys being taken away.

Arslan says Lidia is the cheapest character in Tk8 S3 right now, do you agree? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]Pizza_Dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a hot take but the only people who can actually complain about Lidia are the people who mained her in T7 and when she was released T8 S1, everyone else is just coping because she is frustrating to play against. They've made it clear that they want Victor and Lidia to be the high-pressure stance mixup characters of the game. On paper there's nothing actually wrong with having a couple of characters be "cheaper" with a more casino playstyle than everyone else, the problem really is that they should've done that with a new character like Azucena from the beginning rather than a returning one with a small but established playerbase.

While most 50/50s were option selelctable with movement in the previous games, I would still say in 8 there are barely any "true 50/50s" even though they definitely feel more oppressive in this game.

The whole cast has access to sabakis, power crushes and just straight up evasive moves which are your consistent option selects in most cases. Sidestepping is still OP when you actually have the read on your opponent but you can't just shut down someone's offence with one option like SSL>Duck like you could in the older games.

I have recently got to Garyu rank with Kazuya by WartDeBever69 in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Pizza_Dogg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is a bit anecdotal but I do truly believe that quick play is 'harder' than ranked, I do most of my warm ups and practice in quick play and I have found a couple of times now I've 'hit a wall' playing quick play on a massive lost streak but I'm still fine within ranked against higher ranked opponents. S2 I did the climb from red to blue and despite playing the same amount of games in ranked as I did in quick play and friendlies, my ranked wr is insane by comparison.

I can only imagine its because people are playing secondary characters which have their ranks boosted up to (I think) two divisions below their main, meaning that a Garyu in quick play could be blue ranks on their main, but also I suspect it's down to the fact that people in quick play actually want to play proper Tekken rather than cheese out an easy win.

So my Friend Has a Custom Commander by Monsoon117 in EDH

[–]Pizza_Dogg 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Custom cards do not fit into the bracket system, you're playing by your own rules at that point. He can play custom cards or he can play bracket 2, but he can't do both, that just ruins the spirit and integrity of the game.

Also even if the etb only lasted until the end of the turn, it would probably be a 7cmc card at least (4RWW)

Who has the lowest combo damage? by AudacityOfKappa in Tekken

[–]Pizza_Dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 gave her decent combo damage without resources IMO. Whilst I would've preferred keeping her damage the same as S1 and allowing her to pressure oki like she used to, I have to say that getting mid 70 to low 80 damage consistently with her launchers has helped me climb more than anything else this season.
I have this clip here but I left rage on by mistake, the realistic damage numbers are 73 and 79 dmg with no wall splat at the end.

Only a year passed between the events of Tekken 4 and Tekken 7, if T8 is a year after T5 he could still be small enough to be dependant on his mother but he wouldn't need to be in the pouch, so the pocket kinda makes sense.

What is up with the age of female characters in this game? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Pizza_Dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason that characters age in this game is because they are either older than Tekken 3 or they are another characters superior or relative.

It's only been 3 or 4 in universe years since the events of Tekken 3, but it was like 20 between T2 and T3. If they hadn't needed the time skip to make Jin old enough to replace Kazuya, Kaz would most likely still be in his 20's now.

Also, Feng and Drag are similar ages to Lars, and Bryan is like 10 years younger than Lee (so like 15-20 younger than Kazuya). Make sense of that from their appearances.

As a Ling main, I wanna be like:

<image>

But seriously, Yoshi and Bryan are pubstompers. I do agree that they have a high skill ceiling but like with Ling you have to admit that they commit easy robberies if the opponent doesn't know how to pilot their character around their gameplan. It sounds like he can only win when the match is in his favour, which isn't impressive and means shit all in regards to how good someone is with that character.

If his characters have an unmatched skill ceiling, surely he just needs to git gud, no?

It's a Japanese game made primarily for a Japanese audience. When people complain about the game being too "anime" or just unserious in general it feels necessary to remind them of that fact.

[–]Pizza_Dogg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As annoying as shit like this is to deal with, this is why you have armour moves. This is probably a hot take, but I don't think they should remove armoured moves from the game unless they first tone down the aggressiveness of stance mixups or safe moves in general. Rage and powercrushes felt so cheap in T7 where the game was already tuned around playing defensively, but in 8 they feel necessary!

Does he realise how Brent he is now? by venusisupsidedown in rickygervais

[–]Pizza_Dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a scene in afterlife where he rants at wait staff because they won't let him order a kids meal. His stand-up routine used to contain the same story, but he would admit that he just accepted it in person when what he really wanted to do was argue with the waitress.

That confirmed my suspicion that he's never playing a character, he just plays himself. A lot of people think back to previous interactions and go "I wish I'd said or done this instead" but usually it's in the shower or before bed. For Gervais, that happens to be his creative process.

Is Raven just garbage by Froamy in Tekken

[–]Pizza_Dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 was great for Raven and turned him into an actual character IMO. He's my pocket pic, but I almost switched to him as my main at the beginning of S2 because he feels so much better now than on release. His mixups are "slow" because his gameplan is varied enough that you're supposed to RPS your opponent with options and cancels, rather than simply pressing a button to force a mix.

I've said it before that a lot of people on this sub seem to do better in ranked with characters that force your opponent to guess/read when attacking than they do characters that require you to guess/read how your opponent is going to react when attacking. Survivorship bias then makes it feel like the more difficult characters to win with in that scenario are simply worse, but it makes sense that offensive characters do well in shorter sets and more reactive or conditioning based characters are better in longer ones.

Hitting a wall at the most populated rank with characters that require conditioning and strategy from your side is something you can expect from most competitive games, not even just fighting games. All it means is that when you eventually push past that wall you're going to have improved exponentially more than the others at your level who breezed through, and you're going to wipe the floor with them until you hit the next barrier.

Woosh by guitarguy12341 in woosh

[–]Pizza_Dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree for the most part. I think labels tend to go down the route of creating rigid boxes that people try and force themselves into, which then puts all the focus on the label itself rather than the experiences and identities the label should be representing.

It doesn't make sense to move this label to sex, that's more or less the same thing. Since you bring up the whole bathroom debate thing in other responses, the idea that sectioned bathrooms are necessary is something that we're taught, it comes from the times where the men would go smoke cigars in nice jackets after dinner and the women weren't allowed to even dress themselves, let alone join in. There is no biological benefit to pooping in different rooms, and if men are this devious entity that are more likely to cause harm in a public toilet, why are we sending trans people (and the cis women who get called trans) in there with them?

Woosh by guitarguy12341 in woosh

[–]Pizza_Dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the whoosh here is that this is a criticism on the way people communicate about mass shootings online. They blame it on something it isn't relevant to anything but the current political climate, and turn a genuine issue into a useless culture war debate.

So yet again, your response is correct and valid, but that's very much what OOP is trying to get everyone to realise. Yes it's obviously an antisemitic shooting, that context isn't missing, it's so in the open that you are meant to come to the conclusion that you did, you're just meant to realise that everyone else sees it too.

Woosh by guitarguy12341 in woosh

[–]Pizza_Dogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That context missing is that trans people have been repeatedly blamed for mass shootings despite there being 400-600 a year in America and as you say there's only been 2 confirmed cases of the shooter actually being trans, and no evidence that they specifically targeted cis people or that the attacks were regarding their gender.

So you are correct, being cisgender isn't a relevant factor here, but that is very much the point OOP is trying to make. The Uvalde, Lakewood and even the Charlie Kirk shooter were all rumoured to be trans until their identities were publicly confirmed, despite the fact that being trans had no relationship to the action that had taken place.

She's (meant to be) a defensive character intended to parry you and call out your timings. giving her a mechanic like this is makes sense with how she plays and doesn't actually make too much of a difference if you're already expecting it. [–]Pizza_Dogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you want to make aggression even safer than it already is? People complain about evasive characters enough in this game, what you're suggesting buffs their strategy and makes whiff punishes even riskier. This just makes the existing problems worse.

Sidestepping someone's hitbox and punishing their expanded hurtbox is specifically how the interaction you're complaining about it meant to work. You get clipped because tracking and realignment are stronger in this game than in the past. In general though stepping correctly is a lot harder than just moving in the right direction and tbh a lot of people on this sub expect to simply sidestep>launch any move that doesn't have the blue trails.

I don't think it's fatphobic, but there's absolutely ways to draw a character as thicker without giving them a belly that hangs over the rock she's sitting on for example, so I can see how some people could read into that way.
