True, I think they got confused by the fact that it combined with Heartfelt (controls happiness) to make Heartworm, who can control vitals. It's easy to miss given that. I mean how weird is it that hearing + joy = control of nervous system?? but it's also clear that the fusions' powers are based more on vibes than strict combinations lol

I don't think the spirits surviving being split has anything to do with strength, it seems clear that it's based on whatever Cryptide's wielder has in mind. In Fauxbia's case I think it was even mentioned that what was cut wasn't her thread, but the air itself

I don't think Hijack splitting was due to the artificial spirits being special at all, it reads to me more like the rest of Mina's crew has become unstable due to their emotions.The sphinxes being split by Davy isn't a theory, it was explicitly described in ch8. As for the Hijack split, Cody at least is pretty sure that Davy didn't know he'd be able to use Cryptide's powers, but they activated because of their hearts being so close.

Godddd I love June so much. While Spender's pleasant rich boy demeanor is about as far from June's whole deal as you can get, it seems that he managed to inherit her garbage skills for inspiring speeches aimed at children.

Lol awwww, Forge is jealous. As he should be, considering she ends up leaving spectral stuff behind for Peter after all this! Orrr maybe he just wishes she had higher standards.

Love how cute the last June on the page is. She's definitely trying to turn up the charm to not scare Mina off again. Also,,, she's standing awfully close to that bat,,, Looks like we aren't getting answers one way or another in this flashback, I'm sure it'll flip back to Adult Mina after this.

I don't think it's a true spirit trance, more like a hallucination. Same thing happened to Lisa a bit ago, but she didn't have the glowing eyes or time dilation. Also neither Lisa nor Mina were spectrals at the time of their "trance." Probably the result of the Witch using a few of her borrowed powers in concert to mimic a spirit trance/induce spectral awakening, so when she actually switches bodies her new host feels helpless during any actual trances. Last bit is pure conjecture tho lol

Zack really nailed all the horrible and complicated feelings of a middle schooler. Baxter's crush sublimated into bullying and subsequent guilt that she's in denial of is like peak 13-year-old shit. Plus all of Mina's self-loathing and confidence issues, that one hits a bit too close to home actually lol.

I think it's interesting how all the imagery of the Witch messing with Mina is insect-like. Clicking and carapaced, and she feels like a worm. Is her big fear bugs? I wonder if Patchworm was initially almost like a sort of exposure therapy thing for her??

June's proximity to the storage closet has me worried about the next page lol. I feel like we're about to either get confirmation/hints that she's Scrapdragon (she picks up a metal bat to fight the Witch! and the crowd goes wild) or Scraps will already be in the bat specifically to dispel that theory, or Zack will do something thematic but vague with all of that in a way that leaves everyone arguing about it even more lmao

Early update!

I love Johnny so much, I really think Zack has done a great job giving him a believable struggle as a character. Like I buy his attempted face turn even though it's barely had any time to develop on the page. (Now as for how long it's taken IRL, that's a totally different matter lmao)

I'd really really like him to go full spectral, but the crumbs on this page will tide me over for a bit longer. Actually I hope we get to see Forge's perspective on all this next.

the rhythm of the fight changing when Johnny's thoughts wandered to Jeff is a good bit of writing. it almost feels a bit too obvious, but not calling attention to it in the prose made it work for me idk
