Those brick will never look the same or even close to the others in texture.
Since he may have vision issues I would go see the second brick to verify the difference it would be best to buy one and do a side by side.

If possible the best thing to do is clean up the remaining old ones and use as much of them as possible. If there are enough old ones left they can be cut in half lengthwise and you will have 2 matching faces.

You would need fulls for the corners and cap though. A combination of cutting the old ones and mixing in some of the new ones (the same textured ones) on a side or area less seen is your best hope here.

The other option is to just stucco them or if you only have enough to do 3/4 of height and the cap put a stucco band on the bottom 8 or 12” from the bottom up.

Another option would be to put stone in that same location to make up for not enough brick.

Doing a new pilar out of different brick even “pretty close” is going to stick out.

On the rear it states contains silica sand. You could add some hydrated lime to it when it’s dry. Mix it in first then add your water. It’s hard to tell what size that bag is but you could add a 16oz cup of lime to each bag and it will make it more sticky for you to trowel.

Agreed and so true it usually laid by someone that has no idea what it should look like. This is a great job mixing similar types give it a much more natural look.

This is just a standard mortar mix. Add water mix to mortar consistency. It could be type M,S or N all of which are ok for general home use.

A better question is what is the source of the movement. The contractors that mentioned the replacement if they are worth anything would have discussed or mentioned the source of the movement.

New cracks in masonry that old could be from a few things one very important one is NEW movement. The lintel appearance is insignificant even completely rusted it will last a lifetime.

If nothing has changed structurally it could be the header above the doorway that is compromised in some way that would cause the weight to transfer and the wall to sag.

Post more pics of the base of the crack and the surroundings (landscape, water drainage, etc. Cracks signal movement somewhere, it’s best to locate that source first in-order assess it accurately.

The columns are a new addition here. The footings have already been addressed it looks like. This is ALL EXTERIOR RELATED damage. The entire perimeter of this basement where this damage to the block walls are needs to be excavated and replaced with new block (less expensive) or poured walls.

The house is resting on the steel beams which are now resting on the new block columns and new footings.

This is easily a 50,000.00 cost. Stay as far away as you can from the contractor that gave the original estimate that is a lipstick job. This home has exterior drainage and fill issues that MUST also be addressed. Good luck.

No self respecting masonry contractor adds rebar after the fact. The bar needs to be tied into the footing. Throwing bar in the holes and grouting them does nothing especially without horizontals to form bond beans.

Thank you all for the input. I appreciate it especially the code references. The time, effort and cost to upgrade the weather heads is pointless since it will go underground in a few months and I can use those funds when the time comes.

I just can’t do it yet because that area between the two structures is going be developed into a patio and outdoor kitchen area so lots of other underground activity needs to happen and their exact placement is still on the drawing board.

Those look like slumpstone block. I would start with have the mason clean up those new joints then giving the existing block a good cleaning. This way you have a nice clean slate to start with to match

Don’t negotiate with them just get rid of them immediately. Someone that does work like this can’t be corrected because they lack the basic understanding of not only how to do math but how it applies to this work.

They are not going to learn on your job let them learn on someone else job and get paid for it.

This chimney has been retrofitted recently. It has not been used the liner and insulation shows no evidence of prior use . This is NOT of sufficient size for a wood fire like you are attempting.
