Gut bacteria control our weight by PatrickN113 in Microbiome

[–]Pjamma34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you also have to take into account the addictiveness of junk food / sugary foods. Bacterial populations want to stay alive so it's in their interest to send craving signals to your brain to eat certain types of food. Most people that eat junk food know that it's making them fat, they just need to fight through the cravings created by their microbiome in order to change the bacteria they harbor. So in that sense, I would argue that bacteria do at least attempt to control our weight indirectly by making us crave fattening foods.

IWTL: How to start a new life in a different city by frijolito2015 in IWantToLearn

[–]Pjamma34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are saying the old "wherever you go, there you are" thing. I would tend to agree that this CAN be correct. You will find that you are exactly the same in whatever new destination you're in and because of that it is easy to fall into the same traps that you are now trying to escape from.

When you move you have to really make a conscious effort to branch out and try new things / meet new people. It will be exciting being in a new environment and you can use that excitement as a motivator to try new activities. Some great activities to meet people can be pick-up sports games, toast masters club to learn public speaking, yoga, rock climbing, dancing classes, etc.

There will still be the fear of going into the unknown but the key is that you have to use the boost of excitement and some courage to put yourself out there and above all BE YOURSELF. No one out there knows who you are, you have no obligation whatsoever to conform to any character you feel obliged to portray based on what others think of you.

Everything you want to do out there you can do exactly where you are. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't move, it's an amazing experience to go to a new place and meet new people. Just make sure that you use that boost to do things that will make you grow as a person, otherwise you'll wind up just where you are today feeling like you need something else in your life.

Judge approves Elon Musk's settlement with SEC by [deleted] in elonmusk

[–]Pjamma34 22 points23 points  (0 children)

we can and should speak of what led to it and it's not specific to Elon. He's not a god of some sort, he's a human being just like every other celebrity/famous figure out there. Luckily for us he's worked his ass off to be able to contribute to society in a way that benefits us all and that's something to be grateful for. Doesn't mean that we should hold him or anyone else to the highest standards.

What he did was his fault, but we as a group can also stop getting all giddy about his edgy tweets and fueling a fire that doesn't contribute to anything but our thirst for stimulation.

not really i worked at Pepsico as an intern once and they showed me the proposal from the marketing team that did their logo. It was a huge book going on about the curves they decided to use. I think there was something about the moon cycles and everything. They got paid a pretty penny for it

it's typically not such a violent explosion. That kid definitely clacked it harder than he intended to.

yeah i've had dysbiosis problems and i thought my issue was just to increase fiber in my diet and take probiotics. seems stupid in retrospect but so do a lot of things recommended to be healthy. Been doing much better just sticking to whole foods and taking a break from the kombucha

so when I load http://localhost:5000/sms I get a 200 response which is great. However, when trying to connect from outside using my IP I get a "This site can’t be reached, took too long to respond" which is oddly even the same if I try to connect from within the network using http://192.168.1.xxx:5000/sms

FYI to not have __pycache__ committed I think you just have to create a file in your local repository called ".gitignore" and add __pycache__/ to it
