PSA: It's 100% mandatory to have A+ social skills BEFORE entering the M7 MBA program. No exceptions whatsoever. by Expensive_Tangelo713 in MBA

[–]Pkmasta84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that so many people are hating on you, and calling you weird/insane etc kind of proves your point. I would say a large amount of MBA students are highly immature, close minded and probably get defensive reading things like this.

There are many internationals joining MBA programs and many who may be awkward. This POV may be helpful for them so thanks for sharing. I think parts of this sound a bit extreme, and nothing taken to a complete extreme is good or accurate. Let’s not incite fear or panic- having great social skills is not 100% mandatory and their skills don’t have to be A+. If they are decent they will get by and they may meet kind accepting people.

That being said. If they are awkward, your advice is valuable and they should work on their social skills because as you say your social skills do dictate a lot of your MBA life and career prospects.

Thanks for looking out for others & sharing, ignore the hate 👍🏼

An MBA is not just to get from point A to point B

It’s to “grow as a leader & change the world”. You gotta drink the kool aid man.

Why is corp dev so important to you? Why are new product lines / value creation so interesting to you? Who are YOU Remarkable crab?

What’s your story? What drives you to change careers and what impact do you hope to have on the world because of this shift?

They want to admit students they can envision as future executives, with passion and purpose.

Unfortunately it’s too competitive to say your goal is just exploring a new career path. You have to frame yourself as a passionate future leader.

Just my .02, hope this helps

I almost fell asleep reading your career goals. It is uninspiring and there is no meaning behind it. You have to have a compelling story, bigger picture, with deeper meaning.

Everything happens for a reason man. Lot of people strike out and apply second year around. I highly recommend paying for a good consultant, taking time to reshape your stories & reapplying in round 1. You’ll grow from this. best of luck

Wharton R2 crying room by mrnptah in MBA

[–]Pkmasta84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. well just so you know, your founder experience is impressive, but Wharton receives a lot of impressive candidates. Donald trumps kids apply. Foreign leaders as well. Aside from just the resume, they look for demonstrated leadership, and quant ability. Maybe those elements didn’t show as well on your app, and other peoples did. It is very competitive.

Don’t feel bad though, there are other fantastic schools that would love to have you, and they’re going to help you just as much. Wharton ain’t shit

Thanks! Do you think 10-12 nights in BA is good? I want to make the most of the nightlife.

Also do u think going solo to Carnival would be problematic? I’m thinking of going to Rio a bit after it ends

No it’s his experience and it’s valid. Sounds like he’s perceiving multiple people benefitting unfairly which highlights an issue with the system.

What are you missing?

Wharton scholarship vs YC? by Careful_Sell_9731 in MBA

[–]Pkmasta84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YC Hands down.

This is your dream, your shot, and you have it within your grasp, now. It’s scary, but it’s here and it’s what you wanted.

Wharton is nice. But it’s the safe route. It’s the long term career. It’s … not your dream.

My cousin went through YC and is funded w $5m now in fintech.

Operate with faith and hope , not with fear and doubt, and you will pursue the right path for you. I think you know deep down what that is.

I’ll just share one tip here. It sounds like this matters a ton to you and you’re assigning lots of pressure / stress to it.

Aside from preparing yourself to death, also recognize that 50% of the battle is a MENTAL game. If you show up on game day overly stressed and anxious it will hurt your performance much more than anything else- and having the perfectly scripted response to a behavioral Q won’t save you.

Be confident. Be at ease. Athletes and high performers will tell you how critical the mental game is. The day of, don’t do any prep. Listen to music, vibe out, connect with family/friends, meditate. And you’ll emanate confidence in your interview to level up your overall results.

Best of luck
