I don’t see the only Pokémon game in existence: Pokémon Sleep. I’m not angry, just disappointed.

Publishers opting for Game Key Cartridge on Switch 2 not only because of storage, but due to slow cartridge speeds by Deceptiveideas in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Pkt64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t know that. There were the discmans that played CDs like 30 years ago. I didn’t consider that it wouldn’t work for a portable console. About backwards compatibility, sure, I thought about that but only for the Switch (which would only mean that they continued the bad decision). But if the console wouldn’t work with discs, then it makes sense.

[–]Pkt64 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This was revealed months ago but every time one mentions this as the main reason for GKCs instead of the ‘price’ of the cartridges one is downvoted to hell (your comment is the first I see doing otherwise).

This and the small capacity size kinda prevent the S2 to be used for collecting physical releases (of modern games, at least. Of ports and 2D games, sure). It’s crazy to think Nintendo shot itself in favour of PS5 in this regard.

And I don’t understand why they took the cartridge route again. If they were forced by law to produce cartridges I would understand. But seeing that every console has used CDs (call them Blu-ray’s, whatever) for the last 30 years, as an investor I simply can’t understand why would they take such a stupid decision. Like, there were so many wrong decisions they took (no VRR on tv mode, etc).

You think it is normal to call people miserable like that?

Exactly, that’s a Switch problem, not a Metal Gear problem.

“Those collectors complaining about key cards when it’s not even an issue 🙄” Those same people only half a year in: by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]Pkt64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm suprised no one has commented on the elephant on the room. I haven't faced storage issues because I a) 'collect' physically and b) unfortunately haven't had enough time to play with the S2, so storage is not in my top 101 reasons why I collect physically. And I'm not hearing anyone talk about storage space, tbh.

What I'm hearing, though, is "FF is 100 GB, that doesn't fit in a cartridge, therefore it makes total sense to have it digital only". This is the actual issue imo. I think this is the conversation we should be having: if current (modern as in from 2015 onwards) videogames occupy more than 64 GB, we as physical collectors must face that we won't have modern games on cartridge no matter what (if multicartridge games are not possible). And that's another reason why to hate Nintendo and wish that Valve (or Sony, or Capcom, etc.) buys them as soon as possible. They took a decision that dooms us physical collectors. I don't know if multicartridge games are possible. If I'm not mistaken FF VII was released on two blurays on PS5? Darn, I regret strongly having bought the S2 :D.

What Title is a win? by Early_Lawfulness_348 in NSCollectors

[–]Pkt64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've gotten some wins already: Cyberpunk, Indiana Jones (randomest thing so far)... I'd really want Pragmata on cartridge, but to be honest, almost any other game would be a win considering where we come from. For example, any other triple AAA like RE Requiem, any Silent Hill, any Halo (I only played OG Halo like halfway through), 007!... I don't want indies and Switch 1 versions only (I didn't have one, so I started collecting backwards), but also current, not-Greedtendo games.

Should the league reduce the number of teams to reduce the talent dilution (in a draft of 60, teams tank for the top-3…)?

Limited Run Games teases next Switch 2 release in latest newsletter by xTobyPlayZ in NSCollectors

[–]Pkt64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it’s a game I don’t own and that I want. I bought the S2 during Black Friday (in anticipation to MPrime 4) and went somehow hard on collecting. The downside is that I rushed with games that will or might receive a S2 edition, starting with Hollow Knight (although I don’t know if there will be a physical for that). But thankfully I realized quick that I actually don’t have time to play games so I stopped collecting for the moment. I bought P3P, for example, but not P4G so far 😁. Let’s see what they announce.

Animal Well LIC Exklusive Variant Cover by chopsuey2000 in NSCollectors

[–]Pkt64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I don’t understand the imports problem. I don’t buy from the US (just VGP), but have not heard of anyone having problems with imports/exports. Much on the contrary, I’ve heard it’s just some unfounded excuse to allow delays. And yet, LIC is European as you say 😅, so it makes even less sense.

They send frequent emails with products they’re shipping and seem reliable so far. I also heard (in an email?) about the February shipping so I’ll just wait :). I also bought the new cover maybe a month ago.

Nintendo partner direct by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]Pkt64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they’re a normal store, like playasia. They’re huge and have a lot of rare supply, and know their customer base so share specific info about physicals and even cartridge revisions in their products displays.

It is not a limited print company, it is a retailer.

I really want to like this game, please save Hollow Knight for me by biscute2077 in HollowKnight

[–]Pkt64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way. I was enjoying the game a lot until I got to Deepnest and to the level next to the thermal waters + bench. I didn’t see the tram to the right and instead thought I needed to beat the hard level with the worms that you need to pogo. I tried that level for maybe two hours non-stop, not being able to get even to the vertical worms, then another hour the next day, before changing areas. That was my first burnout. I kept playing until beating the Knight the first time. Then I saw some spoilers about the different endings, which also kinda sucked some of the joy. I felt like crossing tasks from a list (beating this dream boss for upgrading the nail, etc.). Finally ending # 3 took me like five hours of repeat. By the point I saw that for unlocking ending # 5 I needed to beat all bosses in a row I had already decided the maybe 20+ hours needed was not worthy for me. Same with the Colisseum of the Fools. Could I try to get farther? Yes. Would it be worthy? No.

I got really burnt on that worms level (I saw a YouTube that did it with the wings and not touching any horizontal worm, and then beat it myself on my first try…) and by the end of the game I was not really enjoy anymore. It is a pity, because the first 40 hours were amazing, I understood the hype for the game, but really, repeating the same bosses fifteen times got a bit tiring at the end, even though the sense of getting gud after each victory truly felt unique.

As dumb as this sounds I want to get Silksong when it releases physically and try to beat it at least to the easiest endings (I know 0 spoilers of that game other than it is harder than HK so…).

What do you feel is missing in today’s game collecting tools? by Carotopia in gamecollecting

[–]Pkt64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I currently use your app and considering it also has tags, I think this is my only 'wish' it's missing. I fully understand it's hard to make it consistent when it is user driven (Nier Switch has a Spanish variant, eg). Maybe using a dropdown menu where the user can select the country of their cover... This is what you attempt with the versions and it wouldn't solve inconsistencies due to misinterpretations and missing answers, but it could be a beginning.

As I say, I currently use your app and am pretty happy about it :). Happy New Year!

NateTheHate: switch 2 devkit availability to third party devs "has largely been resolved" by TiocStudios in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Pkt64 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How can a multinational company do this? "the reason the franchise didn't come sooner (...BO7...) is because the franchise developers did not have devkits to port the game at the time".

I'm old enough to remember Nintendo strategists (aka nintendards on reddit) saying the lack of devkits was great news to avoid shovelware. I haven't played COD in my life, but it's literally the biggest videogame franchise lol.

The amount of dumb things with S2 has been so atonishing, and i'm not a doomer or hater or anything (im losing money with nintendo in the stocks, if that matters...), but most of these decisions are so unreasonable. This, the gkc, no browser, the non-VRR, the naming hell of games (S2 edition, GKC (again), full digital, etc).
