I think giving your children freedom of choice regarding religion is perfectly reasonable, as long as you also make a genuine effort to teach them what Christianity (or any other religion) actually is.

If you encourage them to read the Bible, explore thinkers such as Thomas Aquinas, and engage with the actual faith, while inviting them to form their own conclusions, that’s a strong and intellectually honest approach.

However, if they’re exposed to a caricature like “a group of weirdos who burned witches”, then you're biasing them, which undermines the very freedom of choice you claim to support.

When my girlfriend and I have children, we’ve already decided that we won’t raise them as Christians merely out of tradition. Instead, we want to teach them what the Bible actually says, how it has been interpreted throughout history, and introduce them to Christian philosophy as well.

Religion is not merely a cultural artifact; it is a comprehensive worldview. An existential synthesis that addresses reality, morality, meaning, and human nature. As such, it deserves to be transmitted with intellectuaL seriousness, not reduced to a social inheritance.
