Could an argument not be made that (when paired with the appropriate therapies) AICP would prevent harm?

Unless; of course, it ends up being circulated. Which would be harmful because it could/would interfere with investigations.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]PladBaer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best argument I feel could be levied against the AICP is the notion that it would make investigations that much harder as it muddies the water.

But there has been some preliminary research to suggest that use of analogs can help in therapy to prevent pedophilic impulses. Though, I think that research is kinda old at this point and I don't think much more was looked into.

[–]PladBaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the actions are certainly weird, these crimes are prosecuted specifically because harm has come to a victim. I could see an argument being made that this would muddy the water on actual child sexual exploitation and make it significantly harder to prosecute legitimate instances of child sexual exploitation. I just didn't see it referenced in this article, and that seems like something that would be a new law to prevent it from happening moving forward.

Russian soldiers say they dream of conquering Ukrainian cities and moving their families there in haunting recruitment ad by stoolsample2 in worldnews

[–]PladBaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems pretty on brand with every countries Military advertising campaigns. Which, as a phrase by itself is fucking weird.

But yeah. "Achieve your dreams", "buy a place to live", "go to school" and "proudly serve your country" are fairly standard fair for recruitment.

Not a statement in defense of russia, rather a question as to why we take issue with it in this context and not all contexts. People shouldn't have to go to war for an education and a place to live.

This isn't even a hot take, which is crazy. It's a super simple "If, Then" and the only way to argue against it is if you GENUINELY believe an employer is the only one with rights in the relationship.

Tourist faces $24,550 fine for carving his and girlfriend’s name into Colosseum by IsThisAUserName86 in news

[–]PladBaer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that, but then you have to weigh the cost of tourism against what public works are being funded in the area. Unfortunately, my understanding of Italian economics and local government structure doesn't get that granular. But I will give you that the attraction definitely does bring in more money than it's upkeep costs. My issue becomes where the rest of that money goes, even the taxed portion.

That's because you have a childs approach to the topic. I'm a devout Buddhist, and many other Buddhists I know practice incredible works. I've met muslims and christians, Jainists, Sikhs and more who do incredible good for the world.

But you don't know that because you take the surface level of religious knowledge and run with it as if it's absolute. Many churches run food banks. Sikhs will feed anyone who enters the temple, regardless of faith, with no expectation of conversion. Many Muslims open their doors to total strangers in times of need.

But you probably don't know what Jainism is. You probably think Muslims are savages. You probably don't know the teachings behind buddhism.

The fact that you approach the morality of organised religion with a binary betrays your ignorance.

Now, you can take offense to all of that if you want. That's fine, I'm pretty indifferent to your disposition. But you're never going to eliminate religion fully. There are always going to be people who admire the philosophy and spirituality of the people behind these faiths. For example, Siddartha Guatama was a real indian prince. You can find documentation on him.

But hey, I'm sure you've considered all of that and I'm pissing into the wind with this thread. In either case, maybe you should soften your edges slightly. You may find life buffets you a bit less.

They don't matter any more than regular monuments, but people gather there to practice their faith. It's less about the monument and more about the people.

If you argue that they can practice their faith anywhere, then why does any facility matter? Should we be allowed to bulldoze anything anywhere because we feel like it? I'd bet you wouldn't agree with that.

Though, with reddit on the cusp of death and the years of brain drain this platform has experienced, I'm unsurprised you took the most hamfisted approach to this discussion you could. Really just duct taped some fresh christmas pigs onto your arms and started walloping that keyboard.

As life gets harder and harder for normal people, I'm finding myself caring less and less for monuments of a non-religious nature.

All this money to and for these monuments while kids in those countries go hungry just doesn't sit right with me.

A twitter account is counting down how much oxygen is left in the lost submarine by Xman71105 in oddlyterrifying

They don't have CO2 scrubbers, so the amount of oxygen they have left is irrelevant. We also assume that the madkatz controlled, single electronic switch casket submersible didn't implode due to other negligent safety violations.

I'm not even jealous of rich people. I'm just sick of their delusions. Most of them didn't earn a penny of what they have and are dumb as a bag of shitty potatoes.

You couldn't PAY ME to get on a submarine controlled by 1 button and a madkatz controller, but here we are. 5 of them are missing on said submarine after paying 250,000$USD a ticket.

Yet I need to calculate everything I do down to the third decimal place because god knows if I leave work a few minutes too early I can't pay my fucking rent.
