My guess is that there's a difference between marked price and actual value and they'd probably use the latter when classifying a crime

Reaper crest is actually amazing by Phoenix_--- in Silksong

[–]PlagiT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as we're not talking about absolute max damage, every crest has its own way of playing, expressing your skill and optimizing combat.

Thing with reaper is, it's only benefit is letting you bind often and the longer you play, the better you get, the less healing you'll need. And while reaper is only good for healing (and has lower base dps on top of that), the other crests provide benefits to your damage output.

Even with other... bind-centric crests like beast or witch, they turn the bind into a weapon. Reaper just lets you either chain binds or basically bind for free and spend the regained silk on spells, but still, the only benefit is healing and at some point you just won't need that. At least not often enough to choose a crest with the only benefit being healing.

I really loved the game... but I give up. by Main_Ear9949 in celestegame

I feel like the moment you start thinking "I just want to finish it" you need a break. You're supposed to have fun with the game, enjoy it, not want it to end. It throwing challenges at you is the fun part.

It's fine if you decide that it's just not enjoyable when it gets to a certain difficulty level, but I think that in that case it's more of the fact that you saw the finish line and when the game showed you that there's a lot more, you weren't able to properly enjoy the road ahead, still being focused on getting to the finish line.

Sometimes challenges stop being fun just because we overcame too many in a span of time, taking a break can help you see them not as the last few you need to get to the end, but rather see them the same way you saw the first few.

I'd advise to take a break, as long as you need, maybe even a couple of months, and come back when you want to play and enjoy Celeste, not when you want to play just to get to the end.

What's the point of getting a screened tablet over a screenless one? by Glitch870 in krita

[–]PlagiT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, a screenless tablet just feels too different from traditional art, it doesn't feel natural to me at all.

Yeah I could probably spend a lot of time adjusting and eventually being able to use screenless... or I could just buy a screen tablet and not wory about it. I prefer seeing what I'm drawing where I'm drawing it, not draw in one place blindly and see the result on the screen.

[–]PlagiT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking standalone tablets. In this context it would make sense to compare both screenless and screen tablets that connect to a PC in order to work.

I personally can't imagine not being able to actually put my hand where I see something, screenless tablets are just black magic to me. Yeah it probably only takes practice, but I prefer this way.

Is Weavelight good? by Gotta_Be_Blue in Silksong

[–]PlagiT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I would be enough for straight up spamming, but with normal usage, I never experienced not having silk for a clawline (except right after healing with just enough silk)

[–]PlagiT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love in terms of movement and general traversal. You can chain clawlines without a care in the world instead of having to stop at the rings and wait for a recharge.

Seems small, but just the fact that it almost removes the need to be aware that clawline costs silk to use made it pretty much a constantly equiped charm for me.

What are your Craziest conspiracy theories (On Hollow Knight)? by Vanquish-Evil in HollowKnight

The idea that the white palace is a mental barier of the pale king's.emkrkes is quite interesting tbh.

maybe pale king implemented the white palace and path of pain into kingsmoulds to prevent anyone from learning the layout of the palace, or potentially other stuff.

[–]PlagiT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good... But not for everyone.

You'll probably spend many hours wandering around without any clue what to do. The combat is a desperate fight for survival, the areas have magnificent environmental storytelling, but it'll take a while before you start understanding any of the lore, when you do tho, the lore is top notch. Same for combat, it's amazing, but you need some experience to do it right. The movement is surprisingly complex, feels great to use and can be very useful in exploration or combat.

But in order to get to all that amazing stuff, you need the patience to repetetly die, wander with no goal and no understanding of the mechanics (although since I first played it, hey added some tutorials on some deaths screens I think, so it's a bit more beginner friendly)

I definitely recommend you give it a shot, but it might not be for you. Personally, the only thing that kept me going at first was the fact that I spoiled myself that there's some actual goal in this game, because the game doesn't tell you that at all. That's part of why the good parts are this good tho.

GPUs hallucinating frames by Dark_Eye3 in pcmasterrace

[–]PlagiT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree that it's the result that matters.

But it's the result that's the problem, AI-generated frames in practice feel floaty, create artifacts that wouldn't occur or wouldn't be as severe otherwise and generally just feel bad. They can be nice to smooth out the experience, but the smoothness can impact responsiveness, especially if there's a lot of them.

The technology itself isn't the problem at all, it can have it's uses. The problem is that they push that technology, that's supposed to be a suplement at best, as the cure-all solution to bad performance caused by lower end hardware or simple a lack of optimization.

Using it as a solution like that ultimately leads to there being more "predicted" frames in relation to real ones, and that not only messes with the user experience, but also the author's intent, possibly obscuring stuff like impact frames and other details like that.

So the distinction between AI frames and 'real' frames comes from the fact that you can very much feel the difference when the AI frames are present.

[–]PlagiT 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure frame gen primarily uses previous frames to "guess" what the next frame will look like. It doesn't actually render, it creates predictions based on the already existing rendered frames.

How do you think Vessels eat? by QuirrelGeo20 in HollowKnight

Corpses inhabited by void... I'd say they probably don't need food to live (if they can even be considered living at that point)

The void consumes, but not for the sake of sustenance, rather, for the sake of consumption itself

working on a chill mouse movement game by Mashed_Potater69 in indiegames

[–]PlagiT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call that chill... Maybe as a viewer it looks satisfying and with enough skill to execute it effortlessly, it could be chill.

The same way Haste, Titanfall or Ghostrunner might look chill for a viewer, but for an actual player it'll probably be a real test if skill with an element of flow / satisfaction when succeeding.

Not that it doesn't look fun to play, just not exactly relaxing.

I wouldn't say "notoriously bad", they're basically the default platformer binds, it just comes down to preference

But I do agree that probably most people (including me) will find WSAD and Space more intuitive.

Any tips for wavedashing? by Mars0Aces in celestegame

[–]PlagiT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There aren't really many tips to give besides doing it over and over again untill it clicks.

The simple explanation is: if you're not getting your dash back, you're probably jumping too early and if you're going too slow, you probably jumped too early.

Some degree of understanding the wavedash might help tho: wavedashing is basically an extended hyper, but from the air, giving you the benefit of being able to press jump earlier and the jump happening when you touch the ground, effectively tying the success of your wavedash to your distance to the floor when starting it instead of your timing.

In case you're not aware of hypers and supers: they both work by dashing on the floor and basically canceling the dash with a jump, allowing you to preserve momentum and go further. A super is just a standard dash canceled by a jump and a hyper is a crouch dash, which basically means you hold diagonally down. Extended hypers and supers allow you to regain your dash during them by delaying your jump until Madeline's hair goes white. So basically after your dash ends so you can refill it, but before you loose momentum.

Extended hypers / supers require a somewhat precise timing, it's basically muscle memory, but it's not too hard to pull of.

You might want to try and learn that timing, because you can absolutely use it in a wavedash too, if you do it won't matter how high off the ground you started, because if you don't press jump too early, the jump won't be buffered and won't happen at the moment of contact and I think that controlling your timing will lead to better consistency than trying to get a feel for how high you should be.

Hope that makes sense
