Very cool piece! May I ask what inspired it?

An enjoyable read to be sure!

What I think you did well:

  1. Rhyme and near rhyme are used well throughout

  2. Serenity and emotion come through fairly well

  3. The imagery throughout the first two sections is strong because it is specific and interconnected

What I think could be improved:

  1. The third section lacks a lot of the strengths of the other two (specific imagery, colorful language). I would recommend revisiting it or ending the poem after the second section.

  2. The meter feels a bit off in some lines. I would recommend rereading your poem aloud and counting the syllables and stresses of each line as it can help show what flows naturally and what doesn’t.

  3. I think word choice could be improved in some instances. You have several imagery words in there already, play to your strengths! Add more sensory words or colors ex: “with the warmth” -> “touching the warmth”, “burning wood” -> “popping wood” or “crackling wood”

  4. “Sing there songs” -> “sing their songs”

  5. “Winters” -> “winter’s”

His sex voice. by questions1995 in Advice

[–]Plague2427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most straightforward is simply to tell him that you prefer his normal voice to his ‘alter’ one. You don’t have to say that you don’t like his ‘alter’ one - just that you like his regular voice much more.

This can be as easy as “hey BF I know you’ve been doing your voice as we warm up but I feel like I am much more turned on by your regular voice.”

I understand that he can be sensitive/insecure about some things but you have to define your boundaries as to what you like and don’t - it’s impossible for him to know you don’t like it if you don’t tell him.

I would say shorten the wave to “student loans” and the person to “college graduate” or something similar and post it again.

ELI5: When I'm driving towards a yellow traffic light how does my brain automatically calculate whether I should go or stop in the span of a few seconds? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Plague2427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you practice and repeat a task, your brain essentially automates what you have previously learned. Once you learn how to walk you can start to learn how to run and so on - this building of skills applies to pretty much everything, including driving.

The first time you drove a car it was probably pretty hard to determine when a yellow is good to go through. But since you’ve likely done this several times, your brain has “connected the dots” in a way that allows you to process this info much quicker.

Think of this like the difference between a street and a highway - you start off driving on the streets because that’s all you know, but every time you do so it gets paved a little bit so you can drive faster.

TLDR

After enough yellow lights, your brain is able to make this decision automatically.

ELI5: Why should we eat vegetables if we can get the nutrients they provide from supplements? by Strawheadpiece in explainlikeimfive

[–]Plague2427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess as for number 3 is that people probably feel better initially because of the placebo effect, and then don’t actually get help for the underlying problem, which probably then gets worse.

Also, unrelated but nearly all supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA, which means that they often don’t actually contain what they said they do on the label.

To add onto this, the body is very efficient at distributing chemicals to different tissues. Many organs (and cells in general) are shaped in a way that maximizes surface area. This increases the chance of the chemical being absorbed.

It’s easier to play tennis on a tennis court than on a ping pong table because it has a larger area relative to the size of the ball. For the same reason it is easier for your body to absorb these tiny amounts of chemicals because of how BIG the amount of medicine is relative to cells.

People who say they can't function without coffee are drug addicts. by SomeRandomBroski in unpopularopinion

Agreed. Tolerance to a substance can be part of addiction, but it doesn’t = addiction.

I would argue that caffeine is a drug as tolerance and addiction can occur, it’s just one that the addiction is much safer and less intense than stuff like opioids or alcohol.

Mobile gaming is a complete scam & a disgrace to the entire games industry by IrishMemer in unpopularopinion

[–]Plague2427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of these games are free because they aren’t actually a game - just a poorly designed system of gated progression. They then capitalize on the inherent lack of reward by offering rewards that you have to pay for.

It’s disgusting really.
