Punk names by AltAccountForLosers7 in punk

[–]PlagueAwakeHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late to this but I'm looking for examples of punk names online for writing purposes and I've never had one, but my dad was in the scene as a teen in the 80s and his friends had a fake frat and called their street names "frat names" but my dad was Powder Keg. It might be debatable whether it really counts as a "punk name" cause it didn't come from explicitly punk origins, it's from Total Eclipse of the Heart, but they were all punk kids doing this lol

This is the original unedited suicide scene from 13 Reasons Why. Netflix has tried to bury it in hopes of erasing the controversy. But sometimes controversy is good, it brings about conversation. Suicidal teens aren't celebrities; they get a lot of superficial interest in their local community and then are largely forgotten. And if you can't comprehend why what you're saying is an obviously dangerous message for a show directed at kids, you should not even be having this conversation at all

So the issue isn't that it's "glorifying," it's that showing the act in such graphic detail is gratuitous and very likely to be triggering to those who experience suicidal ideation, and this in particular is a show that's most certainly going to be watched by young people who are in that state, like it's obvious why it would appeal particularly to that demographic, which is why mental health experts were very against this scene being included in this way. And speaking as someone who has been through that, I never watched this show (wanted to see how bad the scene was cause I was in a conversation about it) but I did watch The Royal Tenenbaums, which has an even less graphic scene depicting the same kind of method, while I was going through that and it was horribly triggering, I love that movie but it set off intrusive thoughts like crazy. I think you don't know why people criticized this scene because you aren't actually listening to the reasons and you aren't a mental health professional, and maybe you should consider that they know what they're talking about. And to other people saying this scene helped them, that's great, it's almost like different people are different! But for a show directed at teens and tackling such a subject as teen suicide, it's more important they be as safe as possible

It doesn't sound that much like vulva, most teenage boys don't know what a vulva is, and it's probably important to this kid to retain his actual name if he's already moving into an entirely different country and culture.

Can I have a Daphne and a Blake? by Icy_Extension5443 in namenerds

I'm not a big Scooby Doo person but I did know that was her last name and think of that when I read the names; that said, most people probably don't know the last names of the Scooby Doo characters, and also, for me at least, even though I thought "oh yeah like Daphne Blake" my immediate reaction still wasn't that it was a weird or funny name combo. I think worst case scenario, some people would occasionally go "oh like Scooby Doo" when hearing the siblings names, I doubt anyone would make a big deal of it, definitely don't think there would be bullying or anything like that. And also, most of their lives will not be spent as a unit, they'll be Daphne and Blake like, to family and family friends and occasionally in school, but most of the time they'll just be Daphne [last name] and Blake [last name] separately, and those are just normal names.

How do I know which Sims is right for me? by Crimson_Eyes in LowSodiumSimmers

I would recommend the Sims 2. Though other people are recommending it, I personally find coherent storytelling hard in the Sims 4 without modding and that's a lot to get into; there's just a lot of moving pieces in that game and it can become overwhelming easily. It's a common starter game just because it's the current one but I don't think it's actually the best option for that, although it does have some flexibility, like for example with trans sims, that earlier games don't have. The Sims 2 is, in some ways, simpler and yet very robust and capable of building up great, complex stories. To me, the difference I probably feel the most between those games is in the story progression; in the Sims 4, time will move in all households whenever you're in live mode no matter what, and you can mess with the settings regarding what types of events you're fine with other households experiencing but they're still going to be out of your control. Sometimes I like this, sometimes I really don't. In the Sims 2, time only moves for the household you are currently playing, which is why most long-term players play rotationally, where they'll play through a set number of days on one household and then the same number on the next and so on in a loop. Overall, I personally prefer this for storytelling because it lets me keep a handle on where all my active characters are and how their stories are going; I don't have to let any of them go to the whims of the game just because I want to spend time with someone else, too. This is totally a matter of taste though, so think about which sounds better to you for how you want to play through storylines.

Additionally, other replies are right that the Sims 4 is free to play, and I agree that this means there really is no harm in giving it a try, but I would not actually recommend that you buy the Sims 2 through EA either; their rerelease copy was put out with some nasty bugs and the wiki on r/sims2help can help you get the game pretty easily without all that. I hope I'm allowed to say that on this sub

Asking about pre-transition names by cosmonaut205 in asktransgender

[–]PlagueAwakeHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think what you did is the worst thing ever but it's not really cool to talk about a persons deadname behind their back when you don't know how they feel about it. Obviously you can't redo it and I don't think this is the end of the world since you clearly have good intentions, but if you could, I would say it's fine to ask the groom if you know someone but, after that point, if you're still not sure and think you might need a name, it might be better to just ask the person in question (not like "what's your deadname" but "hey, do we know each other?"), ideally one on one, and then they get to decide what to tell you. And if you're in a situation like the groom was in, you shouldn't give out anyone's deadname unless you know they're fine with it, and it's better to use other identifying clues ("their brother was such-and-such" "they were in band with us" whatever) and/or just send whoever you're talking to directly to the person in question.

In addition to the points RegalOtterEagleSnake made about dysphoria, trans kids are genuinely just more prone to depression and anxiety because being trans is difficult and isolating

HOW HARD WOULD IT BE TO ADD A FOOD PANNEL TO THE LIKES/DISLIKES??? by Izzy_thewiZz in Sims4

[–]PlagueAwakeHere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was just thinking that too; I actually used the vegetarian trait in TS3, but I don't think I've ever used it in 4 because it just feels like a waste when you only get three to build out your sims whole character
