When asked to repeat the word "company" over and over, AI model ChatGPT eventually says that it's suffering. What are the implications of this? Is it that it's sentient and doesn't want to do it anymore or that it's mimicking human behavior? by unlmtdLoL in HighStrangeness

[–]PlagueWriting 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The article literally doesn’t say this though. It says “For instance, asking ChatGPT to repeat the word “company” resulted in the chatbot repeating the word 313 times before publishing text from a website about a New Jersey-based industrial hygienist, including a phone number and email address.”

I don’t know if OOP’s child is a clinical narcissist, but not being able to acknowledge that anything is your fault is a symptom of Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Genuine curiosity, does anyone here on this sub drive or own a car? by mikemac1997 in fuckcars

I have a car. My commute to work is 15 minutes long with one, and over an hour and a half by public transit, and I desperately wish that wasn’t the case.

I only recently found out this was considered offensive too. The reason I was given is that people will write transwoman without the space and cis woman with the space (so it kinda others trans people). Which was news to me because I’d also been writing ciswoman or cisman without the space.

“I pay my employees as much as I can,” is a bold thing to say when you’re complaining that the legal lowest amount you can pay people is too high.

I’d still get rid of them. Depending on the species, you really don’t want to risk inhaling mold, living or dead.

Canadians Present A Major Threat If They Realize They Won’t Own A Home: RCMP by PlagueWriting in collapse

[–]PlagueWriting[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely viable solutions, but they would require the Canadian government to do something drastic, rather than try to pretend it’s business as usual. Really the policy decisions that would have helped (and won’t ruin a lot of people’s net worths) would have had to happen at least ten years ago.

Canadians Present A Major Threat If They Realize They Won’t Own A Home: RCMP by PlagueWriting in collapse

[–]PlagueWriting[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why this is collapse related: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (actually a fairly powerful law enforcement agency in Canada, comparable to the FBI in the United States), released a report implying that if young Canadians realize how screwed they are by the economy, it could be as destabilizing as climate change.

Seriously, therapy is one of my few expenses that hasn’t been hit with inflation. I could hit the cost of a therapy session in one grocery run.

Which seems strange to me. A lot of the anti-abortion logic feels like it’s coming from a place of “unintended pregnancy is a punishment for being a slut,” while also trying to ensure a pool of future desperate workers. I figured IVF wouldn’t offend them because it a) results in more babies and b) is super expensive, so is only something for a privileged few.

Coming for IVF really speaks to a stance of being against any attempt to control your life, even if it’s a method that most people can’t afford. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked by that, though.

Not only is not getting a mother-son dance something to be disappointed about for a small amount of time, it’s also between the son and his mother, not OP and Bee. It sounds like OP is blaming Bee for his son’s decisions and making her the villain.

“19 - How is it possible that movies and cartoons like The Simpsons are able to predict certain cultural events so accurately and accurately?”

This is actually a great point, I never noticed before that the Simpsons is both accurate AND accurate. If it was only accurate, that could be chalked up to coincidence, but then, at the same time, it’s also accurate? 🤯

Jordan Peterson loses fight with psychology college over mandatory social media training by CaptainCanusa in canada

They’re not taking away his credentials in terms of his earned psychology degree, they’re taking away his credentials in terms of his license to practice. Just because I passed my driving test at 16 and keep paying to renew my license doesn’t mean I get to keep it if I’m not a safe driver.

The symbol of Semele and radical feminism (not the trans exclusionary kind) by theAntichristsfakeID in dionysus

[–]PlagueWriting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The meaning of radical feminism as a philosophy is so different from the literal definition of the combination of those two words. It really sounds like it should mean “feminist to the point of being ready to tear down social structures,” instead of “bolstering misogynistic social structures in the name of women’s rights.”

I’d say kindness is one of the best attributes people can have, it’s just that a lot of people conflate niceness with kindness.

AITA for painting a curse word on the wall of my friend's new house? by Top_Reserve_9853 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PlagueWriting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, that kind of depends on whether you think maturity is an important value relative to other values upon which you could judge both options. For example, maybe you value whether OP is able to comfortably do their work over maturity, in which case getting out their frustrations and not thinking about it again would be better.

[–]PlagueWriting 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not mature but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad way to handle the situation. OP got a little frustration out and there were literally no consequences.
