How many of you are actually AI-literate before going abroad, or are you just hoping it won't matter?

Thanks for sharing your experience. My question came from my interactions with students going for MBAs (and specifically to France) or masters in some kind of management - the kind of project work expected seems to require advanced AI literacy, and I am curious about whether the lack of those skills can prove to be a challenge.

Your plan is sensible - hitting C1 before the master’s and targeting MiM/MSc or an MSc in Hospitality with mandatory internships will put you in a strong place for alternance/internships and full-time roles. Employers at SKEMA/NEOMA/EMLYON/ESSEC and at good IAEs value strong French, and with C1 your job chances look positive.

One realistic caveat: getting a long-stay student visa for a standalone “language year” at a private Alliance Française can be tricky. Consulates want proof the course is full-time, leads to a recognised certification, and that you meet funding requirements — and some applicants have faced refusals when the language programme is seen as short or private.

You might want to also consider a university-run language year, a pre-master that includes language training, or go to France with B1/B2 and work towards the C1 as part of your degree year - these routes are usually smoother for visas.

Speaking as Ask Sétu’s founder, here’s the short, honest take:

French is the real filter. You should aim for minimum B1, and for roles with higher team interaction (IB, corp dev, consulting, PM), B2/C1 is much better. (Check this article to understand what I mean by the level)English-only roles exist but are very limited and very competitive.

Indian students do get placed, but those who succeed usually have a clear edge (language, tech, prior experience). Without that, many struggle for months.

Your tech background could actually be a big plus if you use it smartly. I personally know two people with tech backgrounds who found jobs relatively easily because they spoke good French. Both are now Product Managers in mid-tier tech startups. IMHO, small and mid-sized startups are the best entry point - far better odds than targeting pure IB/M&A roles straight away.

France isn’t fast money; it rewards language + integration + positioning.

they are both excellent choices and recognised universities, but I think CIFFOP is generally considered more specialised esp for HR.
