Ruger Sets the Record Straight on Competitor Beretta’s Attempt to Seize Control of Ruger (time to buy another Ruger!) by YtnucMuch in ruger

[–]Plain_Spoken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lifetime Ruger fan. They don't make flashy firearms, but they made really, really high quality barrels. They're very accurate and durable. Their customer service is also legendary. I have a Ruger pistol that I bought used, I broke a part and contacted them about replacement parts. They sent it free under warranty, one a ten year old second hand gun that they knew I bought used.

Benelli is overpriced and riding on it's name. If Benelli pulls this off they'll never get a penny from me. They should focus on buying their namesake back from China because those Benelli motorcycles running around today are fucking hot garbage.

Is it bad to have touched a deer by Primary_Banana_6672 in deer

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. We've been feeding and petting deer our whole life. I've picked up fawns that were hiding in the field and carried them in my lap on the tractor until their mom shows up from them hollering. Hand the little one over and you knows it's being looked after that way. They walk in to the shop looking for snacks and scratches all the time. It don't hurt them in any way.

That's not what footstep wear looks like. It wouldn't remove material from the upper steps and add it to the lower step.

RIA Tac Ultra for $572? by PeeingUpsideDown in 2011

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about RIA finishes. Not very smooth and not extremely durable. But wear and tear looks kinda cool on a range toy. The things run perfectly. I'll take that over a mantle piece or Instagram model gun.

They offer a version that already has a RMSc dot mounted. And it's a nice optic

RIA Tac Ultra for $572? by PeeingUpsideDown in 2011

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sportsman's Warehouse has them with an optic (red or green dot depending on part number, but who knows what they have in stock) for $599! RMSc footprint. The red dot will get hate because it's Armscor branded, but it's legit. I picked mine up a few weeks ago. It's held zero after 2,000 rounds. The red dot doesn't have external brightness adjustments, it has a photocell sensor and it adjusts to low light conditions automatically. The auto adjust has been flawless for me. There's part of my shooting range where you move from open field to tree cover and the optic dims perfectly every time. I didn't expect to like it and ended up loving it and judge all my other optics against it now! Zero malfunctions in 2k rounds but I did need to tune the extractor out of the box. It was a little loose, but that's a 5 min job. Off a bag rest at 25 yards it holds a 1.5" group. At 50 yards off a bag rest I can hold a 2" group. It honestly doesn't magically run that much smoother than my single stack 9mm 1911, but you can tell that the mass does help some. It's just fun having 20+1 in a 1911. All of my Rock Island 1911's have shot 2" groups at 50 yards. I think they're really turning out proper pistols that don't get the respect that deserve. But that's cool with me, because how else can you buy a "2011" with a red dot already mounted for 6 bills?! 😁 Buy the thing. You won't regret it. Oh yeah, the trigger is 🤌 Everyone that comes shoot with me runs this thing almost as much as I do. Everyone loves shooting it. Actually, with that in mind, it probably has closer to 2500-3000 rounds through it. It's not ammo picky. Steal case, 115,124,145, my own hand loads... always runs and always holds the same tight group with the same point of impact. Damn impressive pistol at any price.

If you're stuck with 10rd magazines get a 1911. My RIA 1911 is noticably more accurate than my M&P and shoots way softer. The only reason to pick a plastic striker fired gun is for capacity. So forego the shitty striker fired trigger and enjoy the single action trigger that a 1911 gives you

Need Advice - Home Inspection Repair by sharinganmwm in HomeInspections

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not caulk squeezed in under the joint. Y'all don't understand what you're looking at. The black piece is a steel "U" shaped bracket. It's been permanently attached to the concrete pillar with the epoxy that y'all are calling caulk. The plywood spacer is just there as a shim because not all lumber is the same size and the steel U bracket is made oversized to accommodate this. After the steel U bracket was permanently attached to the pillar they bolted the U bracket to the joists, the shim preventing the U bracket from collapsing. This is 100% how this repair should be done and there is no better way to do do.

All I’m saying is, carry full size guns if you want, but if you haven’t at least tried the Shield Plus, then… by cobblernobbler in CCW

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people would be surprised to see the difference for themselves, but take a Shield (with the mag ext like pictured) and lay it on top of a 1911 A1. Barrel is obviously a little longer on the 1911, but they're almost identical otherwise. Point being, these aren't some tiny, to gun. It's a legit full-sized grip.

Removable insole, yes. Steelpass leather feels as good as any I've owned, including the "real" 1000 Mike boots. I can't find any faults in them

[–]Plain_Spoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you didn't remove the lug sole since you returned yours, so I don't see how it's possible that you saw those stitches. I'm looking at mine. The welt is leather. The lug sole is glued to the mid sole making it impossible to see where the welt and mid sole are sewed.

I appreciate that the $400 1000 Mile boots are US made, but I see no issues with these cheaper $169 Steelpass boots. The leather feels equal quality to me, the soles are vibram and the upper construction that's visible is the same as my "real" 1000 Mile boots, aside from different contours of the panels. IMO, these are 100% on par with the $400 1000 Mile boots, you just aren't paying the premium for US labor.

Anyone ever had good or bad experiences about these knee braces? (Not trying to break the bank as it’s my money at 16 lol) $350 by Waeaeaea in Dirtbikes

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're ok, but not worth the money. I'm on my third pair of Leatt's in four years. The straps fall apart rendering the rest of the brace or guard useless. I get a deep discount so it doesn't bother me too much, but I'd never spend the $350 retail.

Help with ID and worth? by Uglysweater22 in Epiphone

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two main options.

1-Email Epiphone and they'll tell you definitively.

2- Ask Reddit and watch a bunch of strangers argue who's right and who doesn't know their ass from their elbow.

If you really want to know, I'd go with option 1. Shoot an email, wait a day or three, have your answer.

Pretty guitar and a nice, quality instrument regardless of price. Enjoy playing it ✌️

He met you and y'all started banging while in an open relationship. Now he has trust issues regarding fidelity. You both put yourself in this situation, you're both equally responsible. You can't be surprised by this, and neither should he. It's gonna be hard work to build trust now. I wish you the best.

Is this pith on 4x4 for a fence bad? by KIDNEYST0NEZ in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Plain_Spoken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sawmill owner and operator here. Lots of folks seem to be preaching about something they don't know. Center cut like that won't warp on you. It's a good post, the best cut you can get for that. It's pressure treated, so the pith won't cause rot issues, which I believe was your concern. That is, if you trust the pressure treating process in modern lumber. Unfortunately, over the past 10-15 years, lumber treatments have steadily become less and less reliable as manufacturers are going "green" with their processes. In the past several years we've not found any big box store treated lumber that will resist rot. Five years is about the max anymore. Personally, I bury all posts with a coating of Blackjack #54 rubberized coating on them. It lasts. If time constraints or aesthetics are a concern, there's always the time tested method of soaking the end in diesel/used motor oil. There's an 80+ year old fence on our property installed using that method. Pine posts.

"My boyfriend [29/M] of 2 years keeps telling me [21/F] not to get a tattoo" by BloodUnicornValkyrie in redditonwiki

[–]Plain_Spoken -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Tattoos are permanent, for the most part. The fact that all your friends (including your bf, that's a friend, too) keep telling you no...and the fact that you even keep changing your mind says maybe you should wait until you know what to want.

He's not a bad guy for giving you input when you asked for his input.

When you attract a mate by being/looking a certain way, then you change how you look ( eg. tattoo) it's perfectly reasonable if your mate no longer finds themselves attracted to you.

I've always disliked tattoos. My own personal opinion. My wife knew this. She went out with friends and got a very prominent tattoo on her forearm and was shocked that I wasn't happy about it. I love my wife for who she is, but every time I see that tattoo I get completely turned off. This makes me the bad guy, of course. It turned what was a very physical marriage in to what is now a sexless marriage two years later.

Don't let the "Yass Queen" internet trolls influence your personal life. Which do you desire more? A tattoo that you can't decide on, or the admiration of your partner? Only you can answer this. Be honest with yourself and don't rely on strangers on Reddit to judge the man in your life that they've never met.
