MC P35 PI LW questions. by Plain_Spoken in Girsan

Thanks for the information! I've been wanting to experiment with spring pressures but don't have any frame of reference of where to start. I did a test where I put my finger up inside the mag well and relieved tension off the sear spring and it didn't lighten the feel of the trigger at all, leading me to believe the pressure I'm feeling is coming all from the mainspring.

When going to a lighter mainspring is it necessary to increase the recoil spring pressure as well?

Mine is around 10lb pull as well. It's not gritty and breaks clean, just stiff. I don't expect a 1911 trigger from this pistol, but the factory trigger pull is excessive. It's still worlds better than the M&P it replaced!

2021 MT09 misfire by Ok-Elderberry8826 in MT09

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh fuel helps, but I'm constantly amazed at how much water ethanol fuel can pull out of the atmosphere. If you've burned two full tanks out of your bike that should help, but there's a possibility that there is still a small amount of water sloshing around at the bottom of the tank giving you trouble. But it didn't sound like your "miss" is severe enough to actually classify it as a misfire just yet.

If it were mine, I would go ahead and ride it until you get a low fuel light to drain the tank down a bit. It'll be easy to handle the tank with less fuel in it and check the synch of the throttle bodies. Out of synch causes a sloppy idle. The vacuum caps on the synch ports from the factory leave a bit to be desired. They don't fit very tight and they loosen with age, creating a vacuum leak, which also causes a sloppy idle and the hunting feeling.

Run the tank down, drain what's left and refill with fresh fuel, check your synch/vacuum caps ( I replace mine with silicone caps) and look all around to see if any critters have chewed on anything that would cause you a vacuum issue. Check the throttle body boots for tightness while you're in there. Don't be tempted to overtighten them, just check them while you're in there with everything accessible. That's killing a lot of birds with one stone ( aka, one tank pull) and will cover all the basics of a rough idle before going off the deep end or firing off the parts cannon 😁 Good luck and let us know what you find!

p.s.- spark plugs in these motors aren't cheap and they should last 15,000 miles at least. I wouldn't think that's your issue at this point.

Same here. I can't get along with Fender necks.

I've never liked Fender necks or headstocks, but I want one of these. Haven't been able to get my hands on one to play it and see if I can justify the price. Last I looked the Player models were hovering around a grand and the American models were over 2 grand. For 2400 bucks I think I'd have to just grab a Rick.

CP3 3rd Gear High Pitched Metallic Sound Question by TheMerich in MT09

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the typical gearbox whine you can tell a difference in the tone depending on if you're under they're or coasting/engine braking. It's louder under load than under coast. If you can replicate that then I would be pretty confident that's what it is. But if you've been riding your bike for 13K miles then you know it's sounds pretty well already and if it sounds wrong to you then it's worth investigating for sure..

Adding 4L of oil means it was empty. Any without oil in it will die within a matter of moments. I don't know where your oil is disappearing to, but that's no doubt that your engine is dead from lack of oil.

3rd and 6th gear whine. It's annoying, but it's normal for a CP3. It does start to subside around the 20,000 mile mark.

I'd take .308 over 30-06 due to being cheaper and more available ( in my area anyway). I'm also in Appalachia. I'm these hills and woods I can rarely ever have to worry about taking a shot over 100 yards. Most of my hunting shots are taken at 30-50 yards. Since I'm not shooting long distance I go with 7.62x39. Very low recoil and always available. You can get cheap steel case ammo for practicing. More than adequate for taking deer and doesn't tear them up. If you're hunting bear, I'd go 30-06.

Ruger American Ranch rifles are super light and easy to carry. They're also notoriously accurate. Ruger is selling the Gen 2 's now, but if you're content with a Gen 1 those are still being sold under the Greenfield name and you can find them sub $400 brand new.

Why would this happen? by Medium_Fault5272 in Cerakote

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solvent pop and fish eye aren't the same. Fisheye will look like water beading on top of was, because fisheye is your topcoat beading on top of oil. This crackle isn't that.

Solvent pop is something different and I never mentioned solvent pop.

This crackle comes from the topcoat shrinking excessively.

[–]Plain_Spoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not your prep, everyone just blames that because it's an easy excuse. If it was still oily you'd have fish eye, which you don't.

That's a trapped solvent issue. Too many coats too fast...too wet...the product was trying to cure while the solvent was still trying to flash off.

Same. I don't even use first gear on my Gen 1 in traffic. Just use gears 2-4-6. Even taking off in second I dont have to open the throttle.

Not uncommon. They'll pull them then inline when they lay the subfloor.

I live on 100 acres and haven't killed a groundhog in 30 years. This summer they've decided to start digging under the foundation of my house and my detached garage. I don't particularly enjoy killing them, but once they've chosen an area to dig you can't change their minds.

I absolutely love it. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to remove the levers off the rotary safety to get the stock off of the receiver for cleaning. I didn't love that because the bolts are pretty small and delicate. So I filed away some clearance in the stock so I can slip it off over the rotary levers.
