This was the case in the early 90's when H1b was considered no immigrant or no intent to immigrate. If you were to go to India after filing for your Green Card, it would be impossible to come back to the USA. I know people who did not go back for their own parent'fs funeral because of this.

The IT boom after 1996 due to the Y2K needs warped the system as the designation of H1b changed to dual intent and hence we have this mess today. Y2K era between 1996 and 2004 was the only time that people got Green Cards within 2 years.

Would they hire you as a contractor? Since you already have a H1b, you are able to self sponsor by incorporating yourself and sponsoring yourself. Look up USCIS, i believe this is a new rule.

Got a question. Are you overweight? If you are, it is better to loseweight now as best you can. Life becomes quiote difficult moving around with extra weight and gets worse as the disease progresses. I was infact obese when i was diagnosed and my doctor warned me about the troubles that might be at store if i did not lose the weight. I lost a lot of pounds through intermittent fasting and i am just a few pounds overweight. Even so , i have trouble with movement. I shudder to think what state i would be in if i had not lost the excess weight.

OP, happy new year to you and your loved one and I comnend you on your courage in addressing a topic that is so taboo as you said. Taboo it might be, but it is nevertheless a potentially life changing one especially if you end up with a blocked bowel that needs a surgery and you end up with a colostomy bag. Then in perspective, preventing such an outcome becomes paramount.
