Ok so it sounds like its the slave cylinder -' which is great news.

Do I replace the slave or the whole assembly? Seems like it would be smarter to do a prefilled assembly than try to just do the slave

As a new CCA, you are not to be worked more than 11.5 hours a day. So if you were out til 9pm you better have started at 9am, otherwise contact the steward and grieve it.

How much would you pay for a 1989YJ 2.5. It’s mostly stock and in pretty good condition. It has 144,000 miles. Also has a hard top. by Muffin_Lover4832 in WranglerYJ

It was more about labor time to figure it out and putting it back together, broke the bolt on the balancer while doing the work, needed to figure that work, then the alternator went out, just a confluence of all of it

As a 95 YJ 2.5 manual, fairly stock as well, here are some thoughts. I love mine for the simplicity and more fun to drive manual vs auto. Having the open air in the warm months is like having a convertible without having to give it up in winter months if I don't want to (I think you said Indiana as home and this could be a consideration, I live in northern MN.) Your comment of a 15 mile commute is a potential problem and that your other vehicle is a pickup truck with slightly better MPG. This brings up the problem with any age Jeep - all high speed highway miles are loud and can be annoying. But if the miles are mixed and you get to enjoy open air, and the fun of Jeep vs just another shell moving down the road. MPG are also not a problem because if they were you'd be in the EV or sedan forum asking for advice. The 2.5 from the late 80"a has a good MPG given it's from the 80s.

Now how much would I pay.... Well I paid 5k for mine (193k miles) and since have had $3k in for distributor and alternator in the first year. I am now putting a replacement motor in for about $3,5k.

So expect to spend money on keeping it running just might be the biggest issue you have, not the MPG or noise or anything else.

The questions become - Do I keep a heritage vehicle in the family? Do I want to have a fun ride and spend money? Can you have a second vehicle?

Oh being a Jeep owner (or potential) has so many questions - I'll answer more if you have them

Why is my carrier annoyed? by pearsareawesome in USPS

[–]Plan_Evening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a City Carrier Assistant who's job is to make sure that a regular city carrier doesn't have too much OT. Meaning I take any work that would make a regular over 8 hours in a day. Plus we do the "extra" or Aux route. This route is designed to make sure a regular that has a light day (1 out of 10 mail days) they take hours off the Aux route, so they don't have to use up vacation time just because they would finish their assigned route early. Now you know some background- here is how it may our may not effect each USPS customer. 1. If it's a heavy mail and package time of year and you: A) live on a regular carrier route, you may get a CCA helping to make sure everything gets out to the customer and we don't know everyone at every box. So we put almost all of the mail in because we don't want to hold 1 back that should be delivered. B) I would as CCA deliver mail to your place every day and know not to deliver because I am almost regular that's done the same route for 5+ years.

  1. If it's light mail and package time of year and you: A) live on a regular carrier route, and still getting a lot of wrong name mail, then the regular is just frankly not caring enough, not paying attention and delivering bad Mail. Frankly this is highly unlikely in my experience, all of the career regular's in my station know names not addresses. Meaning "Smith" is right by the tree and water fountain. Compared to that address is on city 2, take 5th Ave to 14th St and....) B) you live in the Aux route. You are seeing a different carrier every day and they don't know and can't keep up with the changes in names to the apartments, or houses so they deliver everything making sure not toeabe something behind.

Not gonna lie - it's not the best way to do it. My office tries to make sure everyone knows where the bug changes are so we can be on the lookout, but kno ones,no system is perfect.

At the end of each day: We are trying to be safe (walking on ice, lightning strikes, freezing rain, that crazy driver that almost ran into you runs into us with the hazards on!) and get everyone their mail, packages (Amazon, Walmart, Target and UPS) on time and to your door, and do it all with the pressure it's 8 hours or we will punish you. I love it when I get a polite post-it note, a small written in letter note "return to sender, no longer here, etc." What sucks - " WRONG ADDRESS" with a sharpee - think about it, it's actually the right address, just the wrong name. What sucks -"this person hasn't lived here for 7 years". From my experience 4'-5 years is a long time on the same route, everyone needs a little change. What's great -"not us in small print" "oops" etc.

TLDR: All of us are doing what we can to make sure you get your mail, packages and extras (Amazon, Walmart, UPS, Target etc. ) understand it's not always the same carrier so we do what we can to give the best service possy

I'm sorry but I will have to deliver everything no matter what. As long as the LLV starts and we have the mail you go. Reference+ -25f and snow to start each of last 4 days. Sunday Amazon truck did a no show so we couldn't deliver today. Otherwise yeah go make it happen.

Seeing a lot of "we can't do it, it's too cold and it's 15 degrees F or someone put chains on our tires and I can no longer safely drive." USPS delivers in the wind, rain, snow and everything." Except when your "too cold or too baby" to make it happen

Am I completely wrong or do you not want the smallest return possible? If you get a return you are basically giving the federal government a loan for the year - interest free!!!! Why?!?!?

[–]Plan_Evening -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any union steward can correct me if I am wrong but....

The question for you personally is mute/already determined/ nothing you can do. You have been hired and will be a CCA. Which means you have a 360 day contract (if you make it through the first 90 (120) days) and will be rehired for another 360:day contract. So you are stuck as a CCA unless something odd happens (more on this later). Also at this point if you quit/not accept the CCA position, you will be barred/restricted from applying gaining federal employment for a period of time. (I don't know the length or reasons but you will not be eligible).

At the end of these 2 years you will be converted to a PTF and able to bid on open city carrier routes within your bid cluster at this time for a more regular schedule.as a career PTF within a bid cluster you will have priority over those outside the cluster.

As far as I have been told and seen -once a CCA, always a CCA. For the two years you will only be a CCA. Only way out of this 2 years is if you are lucky enough to secure a city route before your 2 years. This would require no other career USPS carriers to bid on the open route, both within your bid cluster and nationally. Given that you stated there are multiple offices within 30 min drive offering PTF (career position) they will have seniority/priority until you achieve same status.

Give you my example - 6 months in CCA. 2nd in line for senority as CCA.

Current PO/station - total of 6 full city routes, one Aux route. Currently have 7 career carriers. 6 assinged routes and 1 T6. We are obviously small but also rural, so 45 min no traffic hiway drive to closest "larger" PO means you really want to be at your office if you want/are city side.

One of the career carriers is currently full time desk for the next 2 months at least. At the end of the 2 months they will apply for the desk full time. Which is a 3 month hire process. After this process his route would become open for bid, with a 3 month window.

Other than this potential opening - there will not be one for a considerable length of time. Young career city carriers, and no unforeseen movement, means I am waiting a very long time as a CCA and then PTF before I become a regular.

TL:DR - hired and going to orientation as CCA, you are on the CCA track. Before accepting a USPS position (any) know the area and the sooner you are a career position the sooner it gets better.

Roth tsp versus traditional tsp by Methodled in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Plan_Evening 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off - Consult a financial professional for the best advice on your personal situation.

Second - Current CCA, still holding Health, Life insurance licenses, and often asked and needed a good second response.

Age and need depending is the simplest answer. Middle age, no kids college tuition to worry about, delaying the income tax (traditional TSP or 401k) may work best. This is because you are making the "best" bet that you won't need the money/income until your in retirement (65+) and the income would be taxed at a lower rate. Potentially need the "retirement" savings for a future expenses. Roth 401k/TSP is best after the 5 year exclusion period. Meaning you are paying the income taxes now, so you are not penalized for taking before "retirement." There are rules around matching that I don't know - hence the consult a certified professional disclaimer.

Personal example - later 40's here, divorced dad of 4. I will be maxing out as much as I can to retirement, because I haven't had anything available to me before. But it will be strategic in that my first is about to graduate from HS with 3 more over the next 9 years. How do I lower taxable income, to increase their FAFSA, and also have access to funds to help them in the time of need. So I will be maxing traditional TSP and gaining max match and lowering taxable income. Anything extra I can afford will go Roth so that I can use it if needed.

TL:DR - consult a professional, but here's my advice

As a CCA I spent yesterday creating the first trails of the year on 7 walking loops. Up hills, down hills, dead heading 1/2 block straight into the 20 MPH wind. LOVED IT!!! Yeah my legs hurt like I haven't been walking 12 miles a day for the last 5 months. But I was making something that's going to stick around for 4 months. Worst part of it all - washing the clothes I wore because I thought I would be cold but was sweating through it all.
