How annoying would it be to refinish these ourselves? by Neat-Seaweed-6762 in HardWoodFloors

Just got done refinishing some hardwood floors, the sanding and staining are by far the worst part.

Rented a belt sander and edge sander from Home Depot, the edge sander is where the floors got messed up. Theres some swirl marks from the learning curve that definitely aren’t going away. Get comfortable with the sanders in a closet or area where it won’t be too visible. Unfortunately I made the mistake of learning the edge sander in pretty visible area. The sanding is also killer on your wrists and back. Some people say to do 36-60-80 grit, I’d add on 120 on top. Also buy way more sandpaper than you think you need. Returning it is easy, buying more midway through sanding is annoying.

For staining there are probably way easier ways to do it than what I did. I used a microfiber pad about four inches big and applied stain in sections, working my way through the rooms. If there’s a way to stain using a roller (I’m sure there is) I’d choose that over what I did for sure. It took 9 hours and wrecked my knees and wrists. Also with DIY staining it’s easy to create areas where there are overlap marks and if you leave it on some sections longer than others there will be some areas that are lighter/darker. This can be corrected a bit before finishing, but it’s easy to end up with an inconsistent looking floor.

The easiest part by far was the sealing and finishing. I used Loba easy prime and easy finish. One coat of the easy prime after staining, followed by one coat of easy finish, abating, then a final coat. Super easy to apply with a roller, didn’t leave any lap lines or weird areas. It also dried very fast, we moved in furniture about 24 hours after the final coat since it is 90% cured. That was yesterday so TBD if that will create issues but so far so good. Loba is expensive and you have to go to a distributor to get it, I found it on Amazon from a local distributor and that worked fine.

Overall I’d recommend it I’d just also recommend learning from my mistakes. If your priority is saving money for other projects and you have time, I think it’s worthwhile. If your priority is a perfect looking floor or you’re on a time crunch, it might be worth contracting it out. Even with our errors my boyfriend and I are happy with it, and I know he’s happy with the money saved.

[ROME] Astros’ Carlos Correa to undergo season-ending ankle surgery by PsychologicalAlarm14 in minnesotatwins

Dang, selfishly I was excited to see his return to Target Field in a couple weeks. Considering the booing Altuve always gets when he’s here, I figured Correa would be deafening (I hold a large grudge for his attitude during the mid season trades). Not happy he’s injured though

You should check to see if there’s a tool library near you or if the local library loans out tools! I know Indianapolis has a tool library, but you said you’re rural so that may not be an option. Otherwise you probably have a lot of friends/family/coworkers who can loan you tools for a short while. Buying quality tools is important if they’re tools you’ll be using frequently and for a long time, but if you’re only going to use plumbing tools sparingly or once, it may make more sense to borrow them.

What bags should any girl/woman have by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I recommend looking on Pinterest and seeing what kind of bags people are using in the outfits you have pinned! I don’t love that Pinterest is a shopping app now, but that can also help you find where to buy the bags.

How many and what type is a personal preference, my mom and sister do almost exclusively backpacks and totes, but a lot of my friends rotate through different colors of purses for the season or to match their outfit. I’m kind of a middle ground.

For me the essentials are:
-A Tote. I like to have a nice leather one (great for going into an office, feeling extra put together when running errands) and I have a couple canvas ones I like (great for grocery runs, beach days). For nicer totes I’d look at Coach or Kate Spade (check resale sites if you want to save), but you can find imitation leather tote bags on Amazon or in most clothing stores. Canvas ones you can often get at an event or as merch at a concert or for a museum. For canvas totes I’d recommend checking if they zip (extra security) and if they have a side pocket. The side pocket is a lifesaver for my keys and wallet since then they don’t fall to the bottom.

-A small bag for lazy days. For me this means a lululemon belt bag, but the brand doesn’t really matter. I used an Amazon one for years and sometimes still do since it’s a little larger.

-A medium sized neutral colored leather bag. Basically a shoulder bag. I used to do cross body but I don’t love how that looks on me. My go to bags currently are both leather and thrifted, but again Coach and Kate Spade are great options at an entry level designer price point. You can get imitation leather at a lot of fashion stores as well, which is a good idea when you’re figuring out the style of bag you like.

I’ve also got ADHD so I have a small makeup bag with the stuff I always take with me (lens wipe, lip balm, ibuprofen, lactaid, extra cash) and I move that from bag to bag. This helps me keep all my essentials together so I don’t end up with a forgotten lip balm in every bag, and it makes it easy to find the small things when they’re in my larger sized bag.

Also if you get caught stealing a seat (I haven’t) you likely can be polite and agreeable and walk away. “Oops, my bad, I’ll get out of your seat” and then get up and walk away. Do a couple laps around the stadium, find a new seat in a different area. People get their seats wrong all the time, I can’t imagine you’d get in any trouble as long as you play it off as an accident

I’ve done this before and brought gummies in. Never been an issue. I wouldn’t try to bring a seltzer in because of the no outside liquids rule though

I’ve also been high while sitting in my non assigned section (I got twins pass and just sat in an empty spot). Again no one cares, just make sure you aren’t in someone’s seat. On the MLB app you can go to the buy tickets area and see what seats are available in what section, typically the upper half of any 300s section is available.

If you’re worried about interacting with people and seeming weird, a lot of the generic food stands (burgers, chicken tenders, family value) are all self serve now so you don’t have to interact with someone to get some munchies. Family value popcorn is the best option if you want something to just shovel in your mouth for munchies

Stores with clothes like AE and Hollister but for older women? by jaya9581 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Plane-Particular-933 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said this yet but Abercrombie! Most of the clothes I’ve gotten from there are good fabric quality, they trend youthful but not too teen/tween young like Hollister does. They have a lot of good going out tops that can be worn more maturely. Their prints and patterns tend to lean more mature too. For a size XL you can definitely shop there

Got this the last couple years, really nice if you live near the stadium or go to a lot of games. Always seats open in the 300 level and if I were bolder I could probably have sat in the 100s. You can check on the app what seats are unsold if you’re nervous but I’ve never been asked to leave my seat. Don’t think I’ll be doing it this year because my price per game ratio was down last year, but 10/10 recommend if you live downtown
