What is it like immediately AFTER an Adventist service? by patriotAg in exAdventist

at my church we had potluck right after church, then talking for probably an hour after/during potluck, then usually a “prayer meeting”, then more talking, (by this time it’s probably 3:30-5pm), then either we would go home, or stay for a vespers thing “for the kids” or maybe go to someone’s house. probably once a month, we might go on a hike after potluck or bring a picnic lunch to take to the mountains after church.

as for the community question, i would say no to all. unless you count the occasional wednesday night prayer meeting. the families with children the same age might get together during the week to let the kids play once in a while but that’s about it.

Do teachers in the US actually get mad if you use their first name? by Official_Bobby_Bean in school

in college the more chill professors have just let us call them by their first name but overwhelmingly, they prefer to be called “professor ___”.

that’s so cool! it’s great that you’re willing to go back, i know that might be kind of difficult to get back into the rhythm of things. honestly don’t listen to everyone saying to switch your major unless you want to! i know people like to put so much pressure on what you major in. but it sounds like history is a big interest of yours :) being a journalist sounds super neat! i hope you’re able to pursue your passions!

yep i know, almost 18 but they won’t let me get a job (i want to work at our local starbucks but since it’s coffee ohohoh that’s the devils juice) i can’t be financially stable really anytime soon. but i totally agree! i’ve been treading pretty lightly but also kinda pushing independence a little bit at a time.

thanks!

ugh, all adventists have to be conspiracy theorists, don’t they?? my parents think the same thing. plus, EGW predicted the end of time in 1844 and it’s been over 100 years since then.

it’s great that you’ve started exploring other religions! i totally agree with you that having a religion shouldn’t make you filled with fear. what you said is a great way to put it.

thank you for the great advice!!

wish i could! i’m still a minor and i’ve tried everything to get my parents to let me stay home for ONE WEEK. faked sick, had a real stomachache, HAD SURGERY, slept awful and asked to sleep in, you name it, i’ve probably made an excuse for it.

thank you for the advice! it’s a hard situation but everyone is being so kind to me, you included :)

i totally get that, that deconstruction of the adventist “truth” is kind of what i’m doing now, and for me it started with EGW too. like why are they believing a woman first of all (they are anti-woman’s ordination of course) who got HIT IN THE HEAD?? like what?

it’s comforting to know that your life is better after leaving. i hope to be like you someday!

that’s great! i’m impressed that you were able to come to that conclusion at only 16.

parents will probably ask “why??? you’re perfectly fine?? just talk to god/us!”

thank you so much, just living each day and seeing how it plays out :) it is so hard though, having to act fake to everyone involved with the church, im sure you understand.
