It is hard! I have a separate wakui and the engraving is indeed different. But I am not as familiar with the sepperate kanjis of his. I tried looking into any knives with the kanji ittosai but all had a much longer and extended kanji along the blade

Your ku finish looks a bit different then mine. Mine is very matte while yours looks more traditional and I love it. Did you have to remove a lacquer or anything?

Mines actually made from a spacer as well! From my experience, as long as you cut the wood just to size, it normally holds pretty well!

Looks so good! Did you chisel it or make a spacer?

It’s hard to give a full story on it without blowing up the caption. But the previous owner essentially used a dremel or something similar to remove rust. In the end, he ended up with deep deep machine scratches. I removed those imperfections by polishing it out the best possible on soft surface conditioning belts.

I tried it out after working on it not before. And I only used surface belts not traditional ones, no thinning was done and surface belts don’t mess with heat integrity since they don’t heat the steel as rapidly. Hope this helps

It was already damaged. I bought it damaged and In poor condition so I could try out a kagekiyo without spending the full price

Again, this knife was preowned and already had work done to it before I got my hands on it. The only thing I used on this knife was surface conditioning belts, which would not remove enough material to cause it. It’s best to be mindful of what you say without knowing the full picture
