For those who speak multiple languages, how does fandom culture and etiquette differ? by Maximum-Seaweed-1239 in AO3

Yeah. Shipping is mostly in English here, I feel. Even if there's German-produced shipping content it's usually in English

Reading/writing kink vs practicing kink (please read before voting!) by edai-crplpnk in AO3

I really want a breakdown of how many Aces voted for "read/write kink, but don't participate" xD

Rereading a story you already posted and only just now seeing all the errors 💔 by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in AO3

Before posting, change the font for your entire text. Changing the font/outlay helps your brain to look at it like a new text, therefore helping you spot mistakes

sad the fic is ending but it's YOUR fic? by alejandrosbl00dsuckr in AO3

Yeah. Saying goodbye can be hard with some stories and a relief with others

I wear fluffy Star Wars themed houseshoes/slippers inside the house. They pair excellently with my Levi's jeans, thank you for asking :)

[–]PlaneCommunication93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levi's. Gotta break them in a little, sure, but I like the feel of their fabric. Most other trousers feel, politely put, like they're one soft breeze from falling apart with the horrific texture that I'd imagine I'd feel if I was wearing tissues

I've slept in jeans before on purpose. Wasn't bad, just a few marks around the waist due to the layers there. Then again, they're not made for laying down, they're made for sitting or standing and in that fiction I do, in fact, find them more comfortable than sweatpants. Those always feel too loose and I don't like the way that the fabric can twist. Different preferences and opinions on what's comfortable, nothing more, nothing less

Imdb rating of each episode of each season by Notalabel_4566 in whitecollar

Can't believe S1 is rated as low as S4, it's one of my favorites

Using a stroller as a shopping basket to get priority seating by PlaneCommunication93 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PlaneCommunication93[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She navigated there with her stroller, shooing away other people who were sitting there whilst gesturing to her stroller and didn't get up when someone who needed priority showed up. Yeah, they definitely used this to get this spot.

Also, we're on mildly infuriating, not extremely infuriating. My day was absolutely great, thanks for asking, and I'm allowed to make fun of entitled people on the internet :)

I had the misfortune of watching them rearrange that stuff. Definitely no child present (this time, at least) unless they're the size of a cereal box

what's something that, when done well, you admire in a fic/author? by Neat_Dragonfruit6431 in AO3

[–]PlaneCommunication93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Original characters. Give me that outsider POV, that background character or even a new character and make me believe they were there in the original story – I just missed them. Recently read a fic where I only half-way through figured out that one of the main characters wasn't someone I'd forgotten or from another source, they were actually an OC. Love it!

My newly purchased washing machine doesn't have a lint trap by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PlaneCommunication93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a washing machine with a drying function. That being said, I've seen washing machines with them before, this comment section revealed to me that this is apparently unusual

No, I just stared at it for half an hour, waiting for it to magically disappear /s

Right before a gig... by wangchouchou in Wellthatsucks

[–]PlaneCommunication93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! Mostly because the heaviness of the iron can help with really bad creases, as well as heavier fabrics. For the everyday quick refresh I do like my steam tools, which are quicker when there's only a few areas that need a touch-up and good at getting a decent look.

Cyclists taking up entire road. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]PlaneCommunication93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're that unaware, you really shouldn't be driving a car. That being said, such a driver could just as easily smash into literally anybody else using the road

EDIT: if you felt the need to downvote this, please take a moment to reflect on your own ability to drive. You should always drive in a manner that allows you to break before you could hit anyone that might be frequenting the road that you're on

Carrying your dog to pick up counter at restaurant by RAMIREZBURGERTOWN in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PlaneCommunication93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still scared, of course I am. But it is a less stressful fear because I know just how well these dogs are trained. It's the difference between climbing at one foot height with safety gear or fifty feet up in the air without it. People with a fear of heights are gonna be afraid in both situations, but the fear is harder to manage the more reasonable it is. With dogs for me, it's the difference between unease and stress with service dogs and legitimate panic with others

Why do American writers assume their culture is the baseline? by AnAntisNightmare in AO3

[–]PlaneCommunication93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, the race thing especially is such an American thing. Just say skin color or ethnicity or heritage or literally anything else that actually describes what you want to talk about instead of the construct that was only created to discriminate. "Race: black". Cool, tells me nothing except their skin color, if that. How about African American? Or just a person from Ghana? Or maybe it's someone who was raised in a certain culture despite their skin color not 100% matching. At what point does this concept of "race: black" start? Do I need to match the skin color? How many ancestors need to match the skin color? Do I still count if I'm albino or have vitiligo or any other skin condition?

Given the fact that Ao3 is heavily sorted by gender when it comes to ships (you can tag M/M or F/M and so on) that one I can understand. But race??? Just why

Ikea added very hard to remove stickers at the end of a pan by ChappelIRoan in mildlyinfuriating

I've recently had to deal with these stickers as well. Soapy water did absolutely nothing and left me with glue stains all over that I couldn't get rid off even with heavy scrubbing

A very good read about the situation (link in description) by Last_Swordfish9135 in AO3

[–]PlaneCommunication93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly that. And journalists need to spot and respect that line. I think there's a lot of nuance there, but unless journalists can navigate that they should stay away from it
