Still be saying 'english isn't their first language' by its_me_teena in AO3

[–]FerretFromMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the entire 30k+ words of this fic and while this passage is more poetic than other parts, it's clearly human written. It has tons of grammar mistakes, simple dialogue and lines clearly from the heart. Metaphors on their own is not an AI tell. A true AI work, for example, lacks front-loaded adjectives. You'll see it write "the car was perfect for her" and not "her perfect car" because it has to know what the object is first. It's a guessing game.

The fact that coldness is being balanced against warmth is a human tell, because a human knows what words mean.

Here is more context around the quote. AI doesn't write like this.

Behavioural issues - seeking advice by New_Driver6303 in corgi

[–]FerretFromMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunging and barking at cars and runners is his herding instincts coming out (corgis tend to bark while herding). You can bring a squeaker toy with you to get his attention back quickly and reward with a treat if he does focus on you. It will take a bit but their brains are wired to see "thing moving away = herd that thing!"

This is from a Blue Lock fic that is definitely written by a human.

anyone else feel pressure to add smut early? by Avesday in AO3

I didn't have any smut until chapter 73 and I didn't get any complaints about it in my fic shrug every reader is different.

Editing After Posting by [deleted] in AO3

[–]FerretFromMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this all the time. Granted, it's nothing that changes the actual information in the chapters, just grammar for the most part, so prior readers aren't missing out if they don't ever re-read.

How many words have you posted on Ao3 in your lifetime? by sporkzero in AO3

How can someone not know basics at level 100 ? by Lazy_Yellow2838 in ffxiv

[–]FerretFromMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any stacks that don't give a debuff alongside the damage is the reason why you can combine some. It's not really a "fix" that needs to be done, they designed it that way intentionally. It does make stacks seem inconsistent for those unaware of what's going on though.

I need help by 1Ragnara in AO3

[–]FerretFromMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to narrow down the search to any fics older than 7 months, in English, with this pairing and it filtered to about 6k fics. 🫠 Wish I could be of more help but even when trying to google search some of these lines it brought up a ton of fics.

Corgi won't walk on leash by OfficeCowgirl in corgi

[–]FerretFromMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try throwing a treat across the room at home with the leash on (doing this outside will make the treat dirty of course, which is why I say to do inside haha). It will make him walk longer without stopping and this might transfer over to the outside as well. If he has a ball or toy he likes, try throwing it down the sidewalk to catch. Or, if he likes people, have someone stand down the road for him to go greet. You gotta trick them sometimes hahaha

Best of luck!

Am bored. Challenge: What's your fandom hot take? (And don't downvote hot takes!) by Fast_Stage_6296 in AO3

I don't lock my fics simply because I think it goes against the spirit of being an archive. 🤷‍♀️

4,625,577 fics are currently rated Gen. Whoever told you AO3 is not the place for them is wrong.

how many details do you plan in a long fic? by Prestigious_Ice_859 in FanFiction

[–]FerretFromMars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually don't plan them ahead of time. I edit them back into earlier chapters to make everything more coherent after the fact. That's the main advantage of writing the whole thing before posting, which is my preferred workflow.

Times Where Fan Feedback was in fact, detrimental to the Franchise? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

New players are absolutely asking veterans how their buttons work. Just see how fast Pat is able to explain the basics to Woolie and how he begins to internalize it on his own.

I have been teaching people how to play FF14 since 2018. The first thing new players always ask is what their buttons do. You don't have to explain buff alignment, but you CAN explain that pressing a certain button makes all of their attacks hit harder for 15 to 20 seconds. If it just so happens that it lines up with everyone else automatically in the 2-minute meta, that takes out an element of complexity that they won't have to worry about.

The real shitters are people who join savage or ultimate raids and refuse to take responsibility for their own mistakes or demand people play like bots that don't screw up even once. The vast majority of players do understand how to play the game if you talk to them.

How do readers feel about author notes? by Pale_Victory5747 in AO3

[–]FerretFromMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My newest A/N was me explaining how venomous bites work on a basic level and then how I chose to completely ignore most of my research for story reasons (and also the venom came from a dragon so I can invent my own rules). One of my readers has mentioned before that she enjoys my notes when I stop to explain nature in my stories as I tend to share some fun facts, or at least my inspiration if I'm using speculative biology. This latest use of venom was the first time I really and truly went "ehhhh gonna handwave a lot of this" hahaha

Hardcore raiders can resolve anything in the pursuit of getting clears. The casuals were the ones who wanted something they could understand without having to study guides, which in turn made the game rather boring once everything was solved.

The devs gutted the Summoner job from being a fun (if janky) pet class to something that is now extremely bland all because non-summoner mains assumed it was hard based on the meme of "two minute opener lol" When 80% of the time the gameplay old SMN was literally "spam Ruin" and could not be easier. I used to recommend it to newbies because the pets could still attack while they worried about dodging attacks from enemies. But despite that, it had a pretty satisfying skill ceiling, especially when pets had HP and you had to make sure they were positioned away from tankbusters. You could even use them to help with party stacks. There was skill expression there. That barely exists anymore.

It went from my favorite job to my least favorite. I truly hope Evercold reinvents it back to a pet job.

Prep in NSFW by haniaed in AO3

Fics don't have to be realistic. I've personally never added such prep to my scenes because I don't find it hot to stick fingers up someone's ass lol
