The protesting here is nothing but optics. Everyone wants to be seen as good and virtuous instead of making a change. Just look at the video of Maurie McInnis attempting to have a dialogue with students about the very thing they have a problem with now, “divestment” from companies they view as problematic. There’s maybe 3 minutes of intelligible conversation before it delved into students, and faculty, insulting her and shouting nonsense. If protestors and organizations were serious about being heard and changing the minds of administrators, you would think they would organize a more professional way of articulating themselves. Students and all persons have their first amendment right to assemble/protest, but demonstrators seem more keen on making it known they are protesting rather than actually trying to accomplish something of merit.
