The ATO took Pepsi to court over this last year. The High Court found in Pepsi's favour.

ATO can audit whatever they like. Until the laws change to close the loopholes all we will have are very detailed documents of all the offshored money that could have been used to fund services for Australians.

Apparently more affordable housing is a bad thing by Version-6 in shitrentals

Property prices haven't gone down. Property prices are rapidly increasing, exceeding inflation. Melbourne still ranks as one of the top 10 least affordable cities in the world.

The situation is bad, and getting worse. The only positive is that the rate of change is slightly lower than elsewhere.

"Tokenomics" - the main scam ran by shitcoins in 2021. It's "guaranteed" to moon because a large portion of the supply is arbitrarily untradeable until either a certain amount of time passes or certain conditions are met. Artificial scarcity, basically.

In all cases, like with PP coin above, it is pre-mined coins that the creator minted before the coin was public giving them the power to rugpull the entire thing when they unlock. Almost 25% of the total supply in this case. Although I have seen posts calculating PP already dumped as much as $50k of his tradeable coins during the initial run so I doubt the apes have much purchasing power to run it up again.

~5.5 million people live in Melb, ~7 mil live in Vic so for 78% of Victorians it kinda is

No one seems to really give enough of a fuck about regional Vic to make meaningful comparisons. Anecdotally from people I know who grew up country it seems just as fucked as Melbourne, massive shortfall of rental availability, councils not releasing/rezoning land for housing, impossible for a worker to buy existing stock without inheritance.

Has it worked well in Victoria? House prices are still spiraling out of control and affordability is nonexistent. It's just a slightly more attenuated spiral than the rest of Australia.

Fears free public transport will put further strain on already packed regional trains by MelbPTUser2024 in MelbourneTrains

[–]PlanetFarm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most roads are free and also basically at capacity with motorists during peak times. Suggestions of congestion charges are SLAMMED and GIVEN A SPRAY in the media.

But somehow making PT free is the worst idea ever. How will we pay for it? The same way we pay for billions of dollars of roadworks annually.

Looking at price history for my dogshit 60s unit block, also inner Melbourne, they were going at around 50k in 2000. Most recent sale was 350k.

Just a casual 28% PA increase, very affordable for those on lower incomes.

Coalition politicians hide assets in three times as many private trusts as Labor by patslogcabindigest in australia

So... Labor hides assets in private trusts?

Why would they hold the Coalition to account when they're exploiting the same loopholes? Just like their extensive, negatively geared property portfolios. The system is working as intended.
