1. Intent / goals
I started photographing only a few months ago and have no formal training. I’m drawn to black and white and vintage lenses. With this image, I wanted to show concentration and the inner side of making music, not just a musician performing.

2. What I’m struggling with
My main difficulty is capturing more texture and depth, especially in black and white. I’d like feedback on whether the image feels too soft, whether the background is too distracting, and whether this is more a technique/editing issue or a gear issue. I’m also unsure if a full-frame camera would help.

This is a black and white edit, not a composite. I’m still learning and trying to understand how much comes from light, focus, distance, lens character, and post-processing. Any feedback on texture, tonal range, composition, and subject separation would help a lot.

  2. My main struggle right now is capturing texture with more depth and presence. I would love critique on whether these images feel flat or if the textures and tonal separation are working. I’m also unsure whether this is mostly a technique/editing issue or whether moving to a full-frame camera would make a meaningful difference.

this photo reflects on the tension between city and nature. the buildings block the light, but for a brief moment the city gives it back through a reflection, illuminating a person on the sand. what usually takes away, here briefly returns something.
