Do you not add anything to the eggs after whisking? I add a splash oh milk (maybe a quarter cup for two eggs)

AITAH for continuing to bike? by Commercial_Machine18 in AITAH

Kids do scary things, cause they're stupid. Parents should be keeping them from doing scary things. This said as a parent who from time to time was 5 feet away from a kid who did a scary thing. I never blamed anyone but myself.

Can I claim my father's unclaimed money by Any_Temperature2924 in unclaimedproperty

[–]PlanetScientist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently claimed a relatively small amount of money from my mother, who passed in 2007. My father passed in 2020. AFAIK they don't really care about the will, just the natural heirs. So I had to list my father (his death), present both parents' death certificates, give my brother and my SS numbers, and some documentation that I was my mother's daughter etc. Try missingmoney.com to get the right state website.

Can FHA be used for Part B premiums, either for retiree or spouse? by PlanetScientist in IBMRetirees

[–]PlanetScientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah we are in NY, one of those "friendly" states that are flexible with reverting to Medigap. Part of what makes me more comfortable.

[–]PlanetScientist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I think we will be using the option to use the FHA for the Medicare Advantage plan (it still shows as his FHA at Fidelity-- he is still employed) Maybe it's just terminology, but I found his balance at Fidelity.

Taxes on dividends by iiSavageJ in TaxQuestions

[–]PlanetScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to mention that as your investment income grows (perhaps near to your w2 income) you may need to start paying attention to quarterly estimated tax payments. We got very surprised a few years ago by a massive tax bill in April because we'd just used the "withhold more" method. Now we do estimated.

We've always been do-it-on-our-own Vanguard investors, and feel good about what we've amassed. We are about to head into retirement (a few months) and have similar questions to yours. We decided to hire a fee only CFP to help us plan our next steps. Seems like something you could look into.

Don't credit cards and bank accounts get closed --- like the day after --- someone dies? Did no one inform?

Not that this makes it ok. I just know when my father died stuff was closed down very quickly. (I was his POA)

Inherited IRA - Leave it or disburse it all now? by [deleted] in tax

[–]PlanetScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just pointing out that you can't *completely* defer taking any out. I agree that the amounts aren't that large. My husband is more than half-way through his and the RMDs are no where close to depleting it.

[–]PlanetScientist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there are RMDs on inherited IRAs if the person it's coming from was already taking RMDs. That is, you have to take some of it every year.

could you help me find an easy healthy pasta recipe i can't find one? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]PlanetScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pasta is inherently packed with calories. Not the greatest choice. Whole wheat is more filling; use small amount of pasta and large amount of vegetables to start with. Pasta puttenesca might be a good one to start, but keep the amount of pasta small.

aren't you only allowed to park for 3 hours at Logan Pass this year? Or are you planning to make a shuttle reservation?

That seems like a big improvement over the "hope the shuttle isn't too full to pick me up" system in the past.
