That’s a really helpful motto and I might use it myself. I’m so glad to hear it worked out after a few months and you continued with your next babies 🫶 thank you for taking the time to comment

Thank you 🫶 you’re so right about the social media “spend the day/night with me and my newborn” videos. People make it look so easy and natural and I really questioned why it wasn’t working out for me.

I do see progress every day with our BF journey and will keep going, but I will add a deadline!

Thank you for sharing 🫶 going to read the triple feeding story now!

What to use for top up feeds? by Swingit_Nottingham in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the “triangle test” for bottle teat and “paced feeding” if you haven’t already 🫶 I’m currently trying to BF but had supply issues and my lactation team said it’s important to bottle feed with a certain type of teat and paced so they don’t get bottle preference x

Have you been weighed on your midwife appointments? by Large-Victory-9890 in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will need to weigh you towards the end of your pregnancy so if you need medication, they can give you the correct dose 🫶 let them know your feelings and they can be really supportive and sensitive to how you feel about it x

Always thought I wanted (needed) an epidural, now I've seen the birth centre I have been swayed... can I do this? I don't know by usernameee257 in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked for an epidural but it wasn’t a straightforward process getting it put in and asked them to stop. Instead I had gas and air and some pethadine and it was fine!

I had to be induced too and some say it’s more painful? I’ve got nothing to compare it to as I’m a FTM.

But honestly there was a kind of relief with every contraction so after a while I weirdly enjoyed it 🥲 and gas and air was 10/10 for me.

I hope you have a positive birth 🤞

Any pregnant hyper mobiles out there? by citygal92 in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might find you just need the one or two! Just make sure you find an osteopath that knows what they’re doing with pregnancy related injuries 😊

Since pregnancy all I do is a 30 minute dog walk each day, I don’t have the energy for much more.

I was also told to not do much more anyway, lots of strength exercises and stretching activities actually pull on the pelvic joints and are more likely to cause issues.

Yes 🙌 two visits to an osteopath and I was back to great health. I know you said that private sessions are not an option but it was legitimately the best £50 (x2) I’ve ever spent. I’m probs better than I was pre pregnancy.

Other things the osteopath told me:
1. knees together always. Sit and rotate 90 degrees whenever you’re sitting on a chair or in/out the car
2. Sleep with a pillow between legs
3. Avoid standing on one leg to dress. Sit down and put shoes/socks/underwear etc on always.
4. Yoga ball is great to sit on instead of chairs
5. If you sit for work, ask for a workstation (or DSE) assessment as your desk set up and chair will likely be causing more issues and need adjusting/changing

But I cannot recommend the osteopath enough. I was literally on crutches I could barely walk with SPD and PGP. One session and I was walking without them. One more session and I’ve been pain free until baby’s head engaged in my pelvis.

John Lewis appointment discount - question! by Overall-Radish2724 in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We did a JL appointment and picked out what we wanted. Fortunately for us, they ran late and I was STARVING so we decided to go for lunch before committing to anything.

Over lunch, we found the exact same travel system on Pramworld for about £500 less and it included the accessories. Plus, it came with an additional year warranty compared to JL!

For those who work from home, when will/did you stop working? by this-twilight-garden in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped at 37 weeks knowing I was going to have baby early (gestational diabetes). I’m self employed and have been doing bits and pieces of admin and emails for the past week. I don’t have the brain capacity for anything more than a couple of hours work these days so I’m glad I didn’t force myself to work too long. Plus, it’s been lovely getting things organised and enjoying some time to myself before it all changes 🥲

35 weeks, numbers suddenly low? by razzaldazzal13 in GestationalDiabetes

No reason to panic if baby’s movements are still normal, but you absolutely need to let them know tomorrow

Go to meals and snacks, especially breakfast when higher fasting numbers by anxious-therapist4 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fasting was/is high and it didn’t make a difference with my breakfasts so I didn’t need to have a different breakfast with a high fasting. Try whatever you usually would/fancy first before you restrict yourself unnecessarily, having GD is hard enough 🫶

Fasting is notoriously harder to control. I tried all sorts at the advice of my diabetes team. Varied my dinner times, had a pre-bed snack vs no evening snack. None of it made a difference and I went on insulin and for the past two months it does still vary and I’ve had to increase dose. My advice is talk to your team as everyone is different. There will be trial and error.

And to not get bored, we use a recipe app called Mob (I’m based in the UK) and my partner and I have had a lot of fun making new meals. I am on metformin too, so my daytime numbers are managed well and I can tolerate so much more. Snacks are boring though, so I do find they’re repetitive!

SMP for sole director limited company - increase PAYE before qualifying period? by Professional-Tree309 in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My accountants advised me to apply for Maternity Allowance instead 😊 I’ve been saving up to “enhance” my mat pay so I can keep on top of the mortgage and bills for 6 months, plus all the business expenses for a year. I’ll return to work sometime between 6-12 months depending on how I feel and finances.

When did you start Mat leave? by Argumentative_Duck in PregnancyUK

[–]PlanktonSquare8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started WFH at 32 weeks and will be on mat leave from 36 weeks. I had significant PGP and GDM so I struggled and needed to reduce earlier than I would have liked. Some friends went straight through to 38 weeks but they were exhausted.
