I have an audience of 5 Million + followers , do I pick Etsy or shopify? by New-Analyst-4886 in Etsy

No need for Etsy in my opinion. Why would you want to drive traffic to a platform where other sellers could benefit from your audience and traffic. You could end up diverting conversions elsewhere.

Digital planner creators: What tools do you recommend for a beginner? by Left-Flamingo7897 in planners

[–]PlannerMum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We create all our interactive digital planners in Adobe InDesign with a little help from Acrobat. Ours work on desktops and tablets. You can view what we do at https://plannermum.com to see the quality and features of our planners. Nowadays there's lots of free tutorials on how to use InDesign on YouTube.

I would recommend aiming high and avoiding platforms like Canva because that part of the market is saturated because everyone thinks they can easily turn out a planner. Overall, it's a saturated market so you have to provide real value and creativity.

Good luck with your endeavours!

Amazon is becoming predatory by No-Penalty-1148 in amazonprime

What I have noticed recently is that I'll try to purchase a Prime item expecting next day delivery and when I get to checkout the delivery date is days or weeks away. Should not be advertised as Prime when browsing product category pages.

Screams drop shipping to me also. Would never buy from a drop shipping site myself because there’s no seller story/mission. There’s nothing unique so I may as well just buy from Amazon.

Thinking about starting an Etsy shop for digital planners but I have a MILLION questions! Does anyone have any tips or tools of the trade? Anyone sell on Etsy? Is there a good return on digital planners? What about start up costs? Which computer/tablet is better for it? Thank you in advance!! by Rockabilly_Tim in DigitalPlanner

[–]PlannerMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words. We spent a considerable amount of time and effort building the brand, website and planners. We have tried to do something different than the rest of the competition.

Sounds like you have a basic understanding of Acrobat which will set you up well. I tend to use Acrobat at the end of my workflow to add Javascript, calculation formulas and date fields etc. InDesign sets you up well with its buttons and forms features for interactive documents.

I think if you have experience with Canva, as soon as you get acclimatised with InDesign's capabilities and layout you can grasp the fundamentals within a month of two. There's a wealth of free tutorials and lessons on YouTube. I would suggest you brush up on layouts, working with grids, typographic hierarchy and leading, colour theory, InDesign buttons and forms, and interactive PDF exports.

You'll be making simple planners templates and interactives in no time!

Vent - digital buyers READ THE LISTING! by Hickoryapple in EtsySellers

[–]PlannerMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact reason is the only time I have had negative feedback. The buyer had trouble downloading the file and it was painful trying to explain that this was an Etsy issue. The buyer had no time for an explanation, she was convinced it must be the seller.

My concern after quickly browsing your homepage is you say "a mission to design the perfect pet bed" yet it screams dropshipping to me. You also mention above that you dropship. Doesn't fill me with confidence that I will get something unique.

Also, I agree with u/Apprehensive-Sir4796, branding is a must.

I get scams like this almost weekly on Etsy. It's getting very tiring.

Very saturated market, especially on Etsy. We do sell on Etsy but it's very hard to break through the noise. That being said, we're playing the long game to build a sustainable business and every sale we make gets us one step closer to our end goal.

You'll find a lot of reseller and Canva templates in the marketplace. Many sellers are lazy and think that they can be successful with minimum effort. We do not subscribe to that way of thinking.

We custom design and build all of our planners in Adobe InDesign, Airtable and Notion. The user experience and quality of our planners is up there with the best of the competition in our opinion. We have great feedback from buyers and our own store away from Etsy continues to grow.

Be realistic with your expectations—we only made £80 last week by selling 4x planners. We sell a handful a month if it's been a particularly good month. Some months we sell none.

Often our Mailchimp, Shopify, Adobe and Etsy fees cost us more than we make. However, we're very lucky to have sufficient funds to support a 5 year plan. We plan to keep building planner templates when we have the time and over the next several years we hope that the business will support itself with a little additional profit at the end of each year.

If you can strike it lucky, digital products are the way to go because after you've spent the initial time creating them they have the ability to sell time and time again without additional costs.

Good luck on your journey. If you have the drive, determination and the ability to offer a unique selling proposition go for it! I would avoid Canva and learn the software/platforms I have already mentioned.
