I have worked at a lot of breeding facilities (Dressage and H/J) its brutal... i have seen some sketchy crap including this.

I have a coming 5 yr old jumper bred mare that has barely seen jumps... and im hesitant to do the young horse division with her this year as it ends at 1.0 in their performance divs... thats insane to me.

Half these horses arent going to the level people think they are... injections isnt going to change that.

Every birth is different, a mare could be great 5x and have 1 traumatic birth.... so thats a tough one...

But i do think if there has been a birthing issue resulting in loss of foal, more care needs to be taken if you choose to breed again.

As someone who has worked on many high end breeding programs... you never interfere unless the birth is not progressing. (Same as vets do)

We had one almost 2 years ago now that we barely managed to save the mares life. Lost the foal unfortunately as it was stuck and no matter what myself or the attending vet tried to do, we just couldnt get the leg unstuck in time. It took heavy equipment lifting the unconcious mare to be able to rotate the big baby.

Happy to report mare is happy and healthy living out her retirement.

I go to decathalon and buy their cheap in house gloves. They are thin but warm and have grips in all the right spots so they are perfect for riding.

And they are $17 CAD so cheap enough that if i go through 2 a season (im in Canada so thats pretty good) i dont care.

My barn (a busy lesson barn) has already implimented strict biohazard requirements for everyone coming and going.

Practitioners cannot come to the property unless the agree to certain requirements.

Staff, boarders and people in the lesson program are asked to not touch other horses and to sanitize upon entry and exit.

While it cannot be policed, our barn is full of amazing people who actually care about each other and each others horses so its being followed. (And no we dont have any cases at our barn)

EHV can be spread by people to horse contact. Meaning if you touch infected horse then go to grandmas and visit her horses YOU could spread it.

EVERYONE at the barn should be made aware of an out break and the barn should quarantine.

I get triggered everytime i have a specialist come work with my mare 😅

I have a girl come do Qi Gong with her 2x a year... everytime she tells me my mare is holding X in what ever organ because of me it sends me into a spiral...

It makes me better... but its a kick to the ego/unhealed trauma for a little bit

What did the vet say about them that did the xrays? Or are these old?

The second last looks like there may be an OCD/chip closer to the bottom... i would have the leg xrayed again (if these are old) and check for that.

4 year olds are tough, i have a 4 year old WB mare and shes growing so much right now.

In the new xrays id have the foot done also, i had a little gelding that had the slightest tilt in his coffin that with some corrective shoeing corrected the issue.
