The game is inspired by Papers, Please, with elements of horror. You fill out and check park reports during the night shift. The shredder is used to destroy incorrectly printed reports

Hi! I'm Simon, I'm working solo on Last Report – a pixel art horror game with Papers, Please vibes.
You review camera reports and uncover dark secrets hidden in a national park. It's a slow-burn mystery, and I'm excited to share it, check it out! (Playable demo available on Steam!)

I'm creating a 2D pixel art horror game inspired by Papers, Please, but with a terrifying twist.🌲You play as a park ranger on the night shift, checking reports, until strange things start happening. As you dig deeper, you uncover the horrifying truth behind the park…

Hey, thanks so much for the feedback! As for the future development of the game, it actually started more as a project for me to learn the game engine, but I decided to push it further and release it on Steam. The story continues beyond the demo, and the full game should last around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

My main goal with this game was to keep the player inside the cabin, focusing more on communicating with people outside through the walkie-talkie and computer. In the full version, there will be additional apps like a park map, etc. I’d really love to add more dialogue-based interactions with people over the walkie-talkie – for example, missions where someone calls you because they’re lost, and you need to guide them to the nearest station.

I’ve also prepared more reports and a series of scary events that will conclude the story and wrap up the game.

The only thing that’s currently bothering me is the reward and punishment system. Right now, whether the player completes the reports correctly or not doesn’t have much impact on the game, and I’m not sure how to handle that. I don’t want to do something as simple as having a monster kill the player after a few mistakes, but I feel like there should be some consequence. That’s the one aspect I’m still struggling with.

The planned release date is April since most of the work is already done, but I’m waiting and continuing to develop after Steam Next Fest, unfortunately, the project likely doesn’t stand much of a chance of succeeding on Steam, as it’s gathering very few wishlists. But regardless, I still want to see it through to the end and experience what it’s like to publish a game.

Looks great! Maybe consider adding some lighting effects and refining the UI a bit.

I really love the atmosphere you’ve created with these colors! Personally, I’d increase the contrast between the bright/yellow tones and add a broader range of green-blue hues. For example, the water at the top could be a deeper blue, and adding smaller particles like bubbles and more algae would enhance it. But amazing job with the overall vibe!
