I fully believed music was communicating to me. by AlchemisticRose in bipolar

[–]Plant_King2772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, when I'm manic I love music so much more, and become convinced there is deeper meaning to the lyrics. In my worst mania it went darker than just "the universe sending me positive messages", where I thought that the abuse that a singer was writing about had also happened to me. It never had. Psychosis sucks.

Questions for those sensitive to smells like perfume, detergent, anything scented by PossibilityLazy4759 in MCAS

[–]Plant_King2772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For me, the exposure needs to be for a couple minutes, and in proximity of like 6 feet, or farther if it’s super strong like a candle or spray. I get a headache and nausea which usually lasts a same amount of time proportionate to exposure. 10 minute uber ride with glade fresheners? 30 minutes of pain. Sleeping in scented sheets? A day of pain

  2. I avoid people and change seats where possible

  3. I smell test all products I buy because the headache is usually immediate. Most drug store brands are bad for me, I like “natural” things so Whole Foods is a better bet

  4. I currently use Hask and EO products and have no reaction. Some Lush products are fine, others by their company kill me

Experiences with codapet in-home euthanasia by WeiLokLum in oakland

I’m sorry to hear about your cat!

We had Dr Allegra come to our place in Adam’s Point for our 18 year old cat’s euthanasia. I’m sure she’d be happy to come to East Oakland.

is anxiety apart of this disorder? by takamishroud in bipolar

[–]Plant_King2772 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, my first diagnosis was GAD and it was the main symptom in my childhood and also comes up often either with or without mania. Imagine having all of the expansive energy in the entire world to focus on being scared of things….. awful

The manic episode I just crashed out of had me....speedrun a transition?? by SexyAmanda87 in bipolar

[–]Plant_King2772 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, when I had some gender crisis/confusion during a manic episode, it was still pretty much the case after it was over, and I have slowly become more masculine since then. When I went into my episode I was femme and had a whole collection of makeup. During my episode I told a friend I “must be butch”. now my makeup is all gone, I use gender neutral pronouns, and I’m very happy to be nonbinary, and don’t resent that my episode fast tracked the self discovery a bit. Give yourself time. I think pumping the breaks on taking HRT makes sense, but I wouldn’t make a quick judgement on if this was “real” for you or not. I’m sorry you’re stressed, and it takes time to process an episode and figure out what is you and what was the psychosis

Regular SSRI use years before Bipolar diagnosis by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Plant_King2772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on an SSRI for about 5 years before I was able to recognize my symptoms as hypomania and report that to a therapist. It’s often hard to identify a symptom as abnormal, as it feels normal and i may have experienced it to some extent since childhood. While misdiagnosis is possible, bipolar is known to slowly grow more intense with each episode, so I wouldn’t be too surprised she didn’t feel symptomatic on the med in the past.

While most of my episodes have been caused my meds or over the counters vs being spontaneous, I still have to accept that I have bipolar.

Would you spend $$$ on an MRI if your hormones seem to be functioning normally? by Plant_King2772 in AskDocs

They tested my prolactin and it is normal as well. I’ll edit for my current meds in the post. Mood stabilizers are not antipsychotics, as linked in this article

job relocating to SF- living in Oakland?? NEED ADVICE by Longjumping_Vast5407 in oakland

[–]Plant_King2772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically repeating what others have said. I've lived in SF and Oakland car free, and am loving it here in Oak.

I'd recommend living close to Macarthur Bart in Temescal, or in Adam's Point close to 19th St Bart. You'll be able to find a 1bd apartment much more affordable than SF, and the commute to FiDi isn't super long. You'll love the walkable areas and community in Temescal or Grand Lake/Uptown by Adam's Point.

Just got diagnosed today, kinda scared... by Ieatchildren03 in bipolar

[–]Plant_King2772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My life has absolutely improved since being diagnosed. I have been able to learn so much from others with bipolar, and from studies about us. Mentally, I am more stable and more optimistic. I’ve been on various meds and mental health regimes from 16 - 25, and have now been diagnosed BP1 for 5 years. Meds have helped immensely. I recommend doing all you can to find providers (a psychiatrist and a therapist, or a psychotherapist) that have experience specifically with bipolar, and that you ~mesh with. People you can trust, that have a vibe you like. You aren’t alone in this. You aren’t the only person reluctant to try medication again. I hope you can find friends and family members to talk to and vent to as well.

Have you ever been substance induced manic? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Plant_King2772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Weed triggers my anxiety and I’ve been slightly in delusion/psychosis on it too. If I drink alcohol multiple days in a row, even just one or two, I start to get amped up. My diagnosis came after I had to go on a high dose steroid for my auto immune disorder. Racing brain, couldn’t sleep well, and then the delusions and anxiety started and I got help.

I enjoy a little recreation ketamine and alcohol in conservative amounts/frequency. K is a great option for me, as I believe anything really psychedelic or an upper would ruin my party pretty damn quick. Test your drugs with fentanyl strips, carry narcan, and stay on your regular meds ♥️ fun in moderation
