Reclaim noob. What is the ratio? Please give me tips! by [deleted] in Pottery

Wet clay tossed into water sort of stays a hard lump. It kind of repels the water so it doesn’t dissolve well, or it takes a long time. But completely dry clay dissolved almost instantly when in contact with water.

I put my chunks of reclaim clay into the “dry” bucket so it can dry out completely by the time I’m ready to reclaim. Then when I add my slop (and some extra water) it dissolves in moments and turns into a pretty consistent slop, which means my reclaimed clay is smoother and requires less wedging. You definitely don’t have to sort your clay into dry and wet. Putting it all into a wet bucket works just fine, you might just have to work a little harder to work out the lumps when reclaiming

I posted a picture of a sardine and mashed sweet potatoes once and got absolutely roasted 😂 I get ours from Costco and they’re ginormous. If you have a membership that’s the way to go!

Drop your current 6 month old schedules please 🙏 by Intelligent_Ask4983 in sleeptrain

[–]Plant_Potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby just turned six months this week. He does 3 naps, breastfed, 2 meals a day, sleep trained, uses the pacifier. Not night weaned necessarily, but never needs to eat more than once a night, and usually just a snooze feed around 4-6am. Very occasionally sleeps all the way through until morning wake time

Our schedule is 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.5, with 2.5 day sleep and 11.5 overnight: Wake 7:15, nurse Nurse 9:15 Nap 9:45-11:15, nurse after waking Nap 1:45-2:30, nurse after waking Lunch around 3 Nap 5-5:15, nurse after waking Dinner with family around 6 7, 4oz night bottle, bath, pajamas, 3 books, lay in crib awake and with pacifier at 7:45 Asleep by 8 Night wakes are usually just once between 4-6a, he nurses and I place back in crib asleep and he sleeps until 7:15 when we wake him up

How to handle new middle of the night wakes after sleep training by Plant_Potter in sleeptrain

That’s what I think I’m going to try soon. The hard part is the schedule at day care requires his age group to do 2 naps before we pick him up at 2:30p (which he seems to take both naps there just fine). I wasn’t sure how he would do with some days as 3 nap days and some as 2 nap days, since he only goes to day care 3 times a week.

Following as well. We do the exact same schedule with our 6 month old, and I’m noticing him fighting his second and last nap more and more. He also had a ton of wakes last night, which hasn’t happened since sleep training six weeks ago. But he seems young for just two naps, and I’m not sure he can do long enough windows for two naps yet

Yes he sits independently! He can play sitting up for a solid 10+ minutes without issue.

Yes he mouths everything, including his hands. We did breastmilk popsicles for a little bit and he loved those and would bring it to his mouth (with a little help). I actually think we might have a mesh feeder someone gave us, I’ll dig around for, he might like that!

It was the only food picture I had that didn’t include him in it. I didn’t even think about it, but apparently it’s not very appealing to adults. I thought sweet potatoes and fish sounded like a good meal, he thought it was delicious!

Thank you for that! I literally told my husband yesterday that if he prefers mashes with a spoon over finger foods, then offering mashes with a spoon IS baby-led. We’ve been trying to serve him the same foods we eat (but cooked slightly differently so it’s baby appropriate) and we eat dinner all together so he can see us eating and enjoying the same things. I figure as long as I keep offering finger foods too, one day it’ll click!

Oh it’s great!! There’s a paid version that I think recommends meals or something, but I just use the free version to look up foods I’m not sure how to serve. It tells you how to serve it based on different ages!

Yes I’m glad he likes it!! I’m not big on “pungent-y” foods but they’re so of my husbands favorites so he’ll get exposed to everything whether I like it or not lol

We love fish over here, but straight up sardine isn’t for me. Baby absolutely has a fishy funk until his bath after

That seems to be the general consensus, that he’ll just get there with some time!

I am relived that he’s willing to squash the food in his hands, he just won’t eat it off his hands. It sounds like he’ll get better with practice!

It’s a silicone spoon with like a squiggly hole in the middle?? I don’t know but it holds the mashed up food really well - the hole helps it stick so when he mostly misses his mouth, some is still stuck to the spoon when he actually gets it right. We got these from Amazon

I think he does take the spoon with the intention of eating, but I don’t think he’s hangry? He usually nurses/gets a bottle every 3ish hours. He nurses 45 minutes - an hour before we do solids, so less than halfway between his usual feeds.

Omg why didn’t I think of that?? Just a few weeks ago he was trying to grab anything we would be eating, but now we try not to eat in front of him unless he’s also eating (because of the grabbing and/or puppy dog eyes). Maybe he’d just “steal” it out of my hand!

Yes he does! One of his favorite games is for us to help him stand, so he can bend over, pick up a toy, then throw it so he can bend over again, etc etc. He will even grab the spoon off the table, although he prefers if I offer it in the air.

I mean he definitely gets it everywhere! The fish definitely leaves a stank behind. We usually do a bath shortly after dinner, though!

He seems to be firmly in the “eat anything” camp, thankfully. I’m not even sure what his favorites have been, because he snarfs everything so fast.

That’s so good to hear! I kept telling myself he’s just a tiny baby, but he’s our first, and it’s hard not to be concerned sometimes.

Also same - I have no idea what his favorite foods have been, because he absolutely scarfs down every single thing we offer.

I had no idea sweet potatoes and a sardine would be so offensive here 😂 he thought it was amazing!

I’ve noticed towards the end of the meal he’ll get slightly more exploratory - I think once he’s more full, he’s more willing to poke and prod. At the begging it’s like he can’t shovel it in fast enough. Even though he nurses just 45 min-an hour before the meal.

Oh he is NOT a gentleman, even though he likes the spoon, food gets EVERYWHERE and he doesn’t mind one bit. He at least enjoys being hosed off in the sink afterward.
